Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said Tuesday that Barack Obama's decision to break a pledge and forgo public financing for the general election was "Nixonian."

"The facts of the matter are simple enough. Obama made verbal and written promises to accept public financing in the general election campaign if his Republican opponent would agree to do the same," Cole wrote in a post on The Hill's Congress Blog.

Cole, chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), called Obama's choice "Nixonian to the core."

I think Maureen Dowd said it best in her OP NYT colum. Although she frequently bash Obama I think she is the one that coined the word Obambi but I do enjoy her column and she said that the rethugs are just mad because Barack Obama is showing them that he is a different kind of democrat he is no chump. I couldnt believe Lindsey Graham said that because he forgo public financing Barack has lost his innocence and I cant help scratching my head what innocence? There is NOTHING innocent or naieve about Baracks position on anything. They've totally penned this guy wrong I dont know if they believe it or they are purposely being obtuse. Now because he changed his mind they are acitng like he is Machivellian or worse svengalian. No he is a Pragmatist and a realist just like he always have been. Maureen also said Rove was very impressed with Barack when they first met. I heard the same thing about Bill Clinton too. I think Rove is jealous because Barack find a way to neutralize people like him and if he is successful come November people like Rove will from here on out be footnotes in history.

The GOP want Obama to be Carter.

They want him to be McGovern.

They even want him to be Nixon.

He can be all these presidents put together and still not be as bad as McSame and the president he's most like--The. Worst. President. In. U.S. History.

You forgot Dukakis. They'll keep trying. But it won't work. Just makes them look sillier, if possible. Seems like they're all having a panic attack.

how ironic, they GOP throws the man who brought us the Republican movement under the bus. I dont' get it. He set the stage for Reagan in a big way.

I'm loving it, too. Now Obama is bad because he acts like a REPUBLICAN! Pretty soon, all this cognitive dissonance is gonna cause the Bush party to simply collapse into bullshit singularity, and swallow Washington, DC whole....I'll miss the museums, but good riddance to the rest of it.

Hello Indubio,

I'm applying the term puppet administration not just to presidents who are/were influenced by corporations and lobbyists but presidents who were influenced by any powerful groups or individuals who throughout history have manipulated and abused these political connections and worked with presidents in committing crimes against humanity.

Read "A People's History of the Unites States" by Howard Zinn to really put our sordid history in perspective.

It's absolutely shocking what the U.S. has been doing since it's inception. Realize that genocide has been caused many times over by our country against innocent victims.

next week Obama will be Jacksonian or Reooseveltian to the core for being "too tough"... what happened to Obambi? You found out he is going to kick your ass, that's what. If republicans really think Obama deciding to take donations from millions of Americans who are enthusiastic to donate and send him to the White House is a winning issue for them, I just have to laugh

If Obama becomes president, will he assist in undoing the damage done by Bush? Not likely.

Will he assist in ridding the country of the criminal Patriot Act? I wouldn't bet on it.

This mess we are in was caused by both Democrats and Republicans. We need to remove these rose-colored glasses because the future under Obama is not going to be what we think it is.

Listen to the third-party candidates and mavericks like Kucinich, Paul, Barr, Nader, Gravel and see what they have to say.

Find the recent speech by, CFR member, Obama, to AIPAC. I heard it and let me tell you, war is on the horizon under his administration.

Obama will have a puppet administration just like most presidents did in U.S. history.

Change We Can Believe In? I'm not holding my breath.

Sure you can listen to these folks and it would be nice if we had a three party system but clear thinking people realize more than ever that casting a vote for Nader is a huge reason we are now circling the t-bowl with the preview we are now experiencing Cain will be far worse with his lobbiest administration.

Hello Daly,

I think you should listen to what these individuals are saying. It's important to at least listen to their message and their warnings. I know they probably don't have a snow-balls chance but that doesn't mean we should listen to what they have to say. We need our politicians to do the will of the people and not just talk as if they intend to.

Are we going to continue voting for the lesser of 2 evils?

I agree with some of what you suggest but with respect to politicl action, corporations didn't exist until the 1880s when the Supreme Court gave them de facto right of citizenship; special interest groups and lobbyists are largely a recent political phenomena...so I'm not sure how any pre-Grant administration could be a puppet. Puppets for whom? Do you claim that Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln were puppets? The greatest presidents were those who adopted their philosophy to the times. FDR was a capitalist until he got to the White House in 1932 and came to understand just how dire the economic situation was; he became a social Democrat but maintained a Wilsonian outlook on foreign affairs. TRoosevelt was a conservative Republican who was feared by his party's leadership because he was a man with vision who understood the mood of the American people probably better than any other president; TR knew that unless he moved to curb the power of corporations there would be a socialist revolt (he called it Bryanism). One of the biggest problems for American voters is the belief by politicians of all stripes that American corporate interest represent US national interest. Until we get politicians who understands this not to be the case we shall see very little change. Perhaps this is what you mean when you refer to presidents as puppets but I think that term is perhaps a little overstated.

I thought he was Carter.

LOL Nixonian means doing anything to get elected. You know like flip flopping on offshore oil drilling instead of being honest with the people that we need a real energy policy for the future. McBush was doing back flips, flip flopping on the Bush tax cute, torture, Guantanimo bay, marriage amendment, comprehensive immigration reform, Falwell agents of intolerants, etc¦

McBush said he was going to use public financing as collateral to get a loan before the primaries but then decided he didn't need public financing so he got the loan under false pretenses. McBush would flip flop on any issue to get just one more vote.
