Jared Fogel Not Dead, Hoax Flies Around Web: Snopes

Despite reports around the blogosphere that Jared Fogel died, including the bizarrely thorough JaredRemembered.com, Snopes reports that Jared is alive.

Jared, famous for losing weight while on a diet of sub sandwiches, was the subject of rumors earlier today as several blogs posted saying the Subway spokeman died:

You know Jared Fogle? That Subway spokesman who supposedly lost a ton of weight on a Subway sandwich diet? Well, he passed away yesterday, of abnormal abdominal adhesions resulting from his 1998 gastric bypass surgery.

Below is an excerpt of the "obituary" appearing on JaredRemembered:

Jared S. Fogel, motivational speaker, founder of the Jared Foundation and spokesman for Subway Sandwiches, has died at age 31. His father told reporters yesterday from his Indiana home that Jared had died. No cause of death was listed.

Although he has not actively participated in the filming of Subway commercials since his health became prohibitive in 2006, it is believed that enough commercials were filmed in advance to continue his television appearances in promotion until at least 2010, with all proceeds and royalties going to his foundation.
