Obama Downplays Scarlett Johansson Emails

Scarlett Johansson, a big supporter of Barack Obama, recently gushed that she frequently trades emails with the presidential candidate. Obama, however, is downplaying the notion that he walks in such lofty circles:

As he headed to a Hollywood fundraiser, Sen. Barack Obama downplayed the idea that he hobnobs with actress Scarlett Johansson...

...speaking to reporters aboard his campaign plane, Obama said the actress doesn't have his personal email address. "She sent one email to Reggie, who forwarded it to me," Obama said, referring to his 26-year-old personal assistant, Reggie Love. "I write saying, 'thank you Scarlett for doing what you do,' and suddenly we have this email relationship"

This is just foreshadowing of the Republican whisper campaign that is going to play on the ugliest of stereotypes and fears. It's exactly what they pulled on Harold Ford with the infamous "call me" ad.

We have to pull the plug on this right now. I think the best way is to ridicule their strategy and embarrass them. Best retort I heard floating around: "Yes--and I also hear Obama has fathered two children with a black woman."

I am glad Barack clarified things. She can email whoever she wants but its inappropriate to imply that they are email buddies. She is trying to start something and must stop. We never see emails to her friends., family or business associate. Why do we need to know this?

Okie, did you hear or read Sen. Obama's very reasoned statement as to how he is thinking about the FISA Bill at the Press Conference yesterday? Are you a one issue voter? It is most disappointing to me to see "so-called" supporters give up so easily and start attacking the candidate because they disagree with one, two or three issues. I disagree with Obama over any number of issues. I hated the speech he gave to AIPAC. But it has never even occurred to me to start bashing him the way I see you doing. If I only agree with him 55% of the time, then I am not going come on here and try to tear him down and give ammunition to the Rethuglicans.

Yes, seriously. Quit trying to start up these ridiculous rumors. Barack is a happily married man. Michelle Obama is a lovely lady, and Scarlett is too young, she's practically my age, wait she is my age. I think this country is a little too racist for any fantasy interracial romance to ever become something to gleam stories about as you are doing with this blog. The Obama campaign is all about bringing back respect to the White House, take us back to a time when younger people could look up to elders for insight and knowledge and not sexual favors like as we have seen under recent Democratic leadership.

I'm torn on this FISA situation. I can see the need for something like it, but I dislike how it's being implemented. If we can trust what Obama has said about his reasoning behind supporting this iteration, then I can support him in it. A move towards "responsible" use of this power is something I'm all for if it in fact helps keep us safe.

As I've said before, a small step in the right direction is always better than digging in and going nowhere.

It is odd. I said the same thing. When would this man have time to go through thousands of email from supporters and pick out SJ email and respond? How did he know it was SJ? How did she know it was his personal email address and not one of many?

He was forwarded the email from one of his workers who was in charge of responding to email which explains a lot. The worker happens wo be a 23 year old white male who is more likely to know SJ than BO.

You are just jealous because she wants him and not you.

How in the hell has Obama's acknowledgement that he answered one of her emails" morphed into "that out of the tens of thousands of emails Obama gets...?" How do you know he hasn't emailed a thank you to Susan Sarandon, or Matt Damon, or Oprah, or George Clooney, or Al Gore, or Elizabeth Edwards, or any of the other notables who have gone on the stump for him?

You don't know. In fact, you don't "know jack" if you think men are only "all man" if they cheat, lust and lie.
