Obama Downplays Scarlett Johansson Emails

Scarlett Johansson, a big supporter of Barack Obama, recently gushed that she frequently trades emails with the presidential candidate. Obama, however, is downplaying the notion that he walks in such lofty circles:

As he headed to a Hollywood fundraiser, Sen. Barack Obama downplayed the idea that he hobnobs with actress Scarlett Johansson...

...speaking to reporters aboard his campaign plane, Obama said the actress doesn't have his personal email address. "She sent one email to Reggie, who forwarded it to me," Obama said, referring to his 26-year-old personal assistant, Reggie Love. "I write saying, 'thank you Scarlett for doing what you do,' and suddenly we have this email relationship"

This is why people hate the media - they promote silly stories that are not relevant. Because of the "racial" issues concerning this race for president, it is even more imperative that the media not engage in stories that fixate on a "white woman-black man" historical paradigm.

The only real problem I see here is that movie stars have a tendency to inject themselves into a political debate. Maybe they think they're helping, but they seldom do. More often, it's for narcissistic reasons. SJ mentioned the emails to Politico to make herself seem cool that she has Obama's ear. I remember reading a few weeks ago that guy Ryan Phillipe saying he was going to campaign like hell for Obama. Well, I don't know many people who are going to vote because Ryan Phillipe says so, but it was another case of a self satisfied celebrity thinking they can make a difference. Give George Clooney credit: at least he knows how much of a turnoff celebrities can be.
