Obama Downplays Scarlett Johansson Emails

Scarlett Johansson, a big supporter of Barack Obama, recently gushed that she frequently trades emails with the presidential candidate. Obama, however, is downplaying the notion that he walks in such lofty circles:

As he headed to a Hollywood fundraiser, Sen. Barack Obama downplayed the idea that he hobnobs with actress Scarlett Johansson...

...speaking to reporters aboard his campaign plane, Obama said the actress doesn't have his personal email address. "She sent one email to Reggie, who forwarded it to me," Obama said, referring to his 26-year-old personal assistant, Reggie Love. "I write saying, 'thank you Scarlett for doing what you do,' and suddenly we have this email relationship"

I hardly think Obama is throwing Scarlett under the bus. But consider his Republican opponents past history, I think he is wise to avoid any possible appearance of impropriety. Take note of Tennessee's Harold Ford. I am sure Scarlett will forgive him.

The title of this piece is misleading. I don't care for the insinuation that suggests there was a "friendship" to downplay. This is a good example of how the media tries to influence its readers.

I think, as a married man of 2, that having an "email relationship" with Scarlett Johansson based on her having an interest in something I was doing would be pretty cool.

Now I doubt that Ms. Johansson has the time to kabitz about playing poker and 45 RPM records, but if she wanted to, I know my wife would think it strange but not have a problem, although my 8-year old might want to get an autographed DVD copy of The Spongebob Square Pants Movie, since she does play the voice of his favorite character, Mindy.
