Jindal

Rising Republican star Bobby Jindal signed legislation allowing judges to force convicted rapists to undergo chemical castration, the Louisiana Advocate reports:

"I am glad we have taken such strong measures in Louisiana to put a stop to these monsters' brutal acts," the governor said in a prepared statement.

Jindal signed Senate Bill 144 into law on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Louisiana cannot execute people who rape children under the age of 12.

The governor blasted the high court's decision.

"I am especially glad to sign (SB144) into Louisiana law ... on the same day the Supreme Court has made an atrocious ruling against our state's ability to sentence those who sexually assault our children to the fullest extent," he said.

Jindal, the country's youngest governor and the first with Indian roots, is often cited as a potential Vice Presidental nominee for McCain. He has spoken out in defense of intelligent design and written about his participation in an exorcism.

What good does chemical castration do?

Now if he could do a chemical beheading, then we'd have something.

What's next? Cutting off the hands of thieves? Gauging out the eyes of those who watch pornography? When did we turn into Saudi Arabia?

While I'm not a fan of everything this guy has to say I must agree with him on this. It stops short of the death penalty but is severe enough to stop these people from harming anyone again.

Being unable to rape a child with one's genitals does not prevent a person from harming a child.

But it is a start...

How about chopping hands off from cheating, stealing contractors. Look, rape is a horrible crime. The problem with "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" is the inability to truly prove without the least trace of a doubt that a person is guilty. And even so.......we have a system whereby a defense attorney does not take into consideration whether a client is guilty or not. He will do whatever he can to get him out of his predicament. On the other hand, people who cannot afford a good defense attorney get little help even if they are innocent. Then in jail, what kind of efforts are made to rehabilitate a person?

But, any punishment which involves any form of physical manipulation of the prisoner whithout the prisoner's consent is cruel and unusual punishment--from beating to execution by lethal injection.
How did Jindal get elected, for Pete's sake?

Wasn't Jindal on McCains's list for VP? I know for sure that I want a Vice President who supports castration as a punishment...

Chemical castration has been proven ineffective - rapists derive pleasure from the domination and humiliation of their victims, not from sexual stimulation. A rapist who cannot become aroused will merely make due with some other object. Chemical castration does nothing more than provide a false sense of security for the ill-informed and authoritarians seeking some form of physical retribution. There is no quick fix for this problem.

Again, people are lumping rapists of adult women with pedophiles. The desires are usually not the same between the two. If the sexual urge is linked to tiny hands and flat chests, it is still the sexual urge as with most pedophiles. If the urge is to cause pain and humiliation, it is merely using the act of sex as a weapon and in that case another weapon will do. However, when there is less testosterone, there are fewer urges to both sex and violence.

The issue isn't tiny hands and flat chests, it's total control over an innocent. Again, an issue of power. It has been statistically proven that the overwhelming majority of pedophiles are heterosexual men, but they tend to molest boys because it is easier for a man to get access to an under-aged boy without raising suspicion. Further proof that the offender will make due with what is available. But let's simplify this - please cite the documented peer-reviewed evidence proving chemical castration reduces the instance of child rape. Or are you, like Governor Jindal, just going with your gut on this issue?

I find rapist to be disgusting human beings; however I am fearful of this type of law. We already have a system that puts innocent people on death row. Now, we are going to have a system that castrates people. The issue with rape cases though is many often are in the realm of he said / she said. These cases are no always cut and dry and now we have to insert this punishment.

Something tells me the SCOTUS will be throwing out this punishment in about two years time.

No body parts are involved, it is simply a medication that effects hormones. The average pedophile molests 300 children during their lifetime.

You have posted several different unsubstantiated references on this thread.

You need to get the facts and stop flaming.

"300 children" That is a ridiculous number, and has no research to back it up.

Go to the human rights watch website and search for their report "No Easy Answers" and you will find that over 95% of offenders do NOT reoffend, and most only have 1 victim (or less! people caught in internet stings for example)

This will be struck down by the courts. Whoever made this bill and supported it should be fired for being a idiot.
