Jindal

Rising Republican star Bobby Jindal signed legislation allowing judges to force convicted rapists to undergo chemical castration, the Louisiana Advocate reports:

"I am glad we have taken such strong measures in Louisiana to put a stop to these monsters' brutal acts," the governor said in a prepared statement.

Jindal signed Senate Bill 144 into law on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Louisiana cannot execute people who rape children under the age of 12.

The governor blasted the high court's decision.

"I am especially glad to sign (SB144) into Louisiana law ... on the same day the Supreme Court has made an atrocious ruling against our state's ability to sentence those who sexually assault our children to the fullest extent," he said.

Jindal, the country's youngest governor and the first with Indian roots, is often cited as a potential Vice Presidental nominee for McCain. He has spoken out in defense of intelligent design and written about his participation in an exorcism.

I know a guy who was convicted of sexual crime because he grabbed a woman's breast in a night club. He was like in his early 20's, and he was drunk that night. Technically, this guy is a sexual offender. Are they going to castrate people like him?

What's next? Cutting off a person's hand for stealing?

"What's next? Cutting off a person's hand for stealing?"

They'll keep it in cold storage, in case he wins his appeal?

If "chemical castration" is prescription hormonal medication that removes the sex urge, I'd go along with that. I would think the child & adult rapists would welcome the medication.

BUT, let's make CERTAIN that the accused pedophiles and rapists are INDEED GUILTY as charged.

(BTW...how many pedophile PRIESTS are serving time for their crimes?)

Stay safe, healthy and happy,
Love, Loretta

In early 20th Century, the Court upheld forced sterilization of “idiots” who conceived though their parents, grandparents, and great grand parents conceived mentally handicapped offspring. The Court said: “Four generations of idiots are enough.”

That decision has been criticized severely (as outrageous, uncivilized) in numerous later Supreme Court decisions, perhaps (even likely) overturned. One can argue respectably that if the state cannot execute a child-raper who did not kill the victim, surely it cannot castrate the offender, because such punishment is very unusual (done only in barely uncivilized nations, not in any state of this country or in the UK or the rest of Western Europe (likely the rest of all Europe) or most or all of the rest of the Americas, and certainly it is very cruel (and many men would prefer death).

One can argue respectably also that since women sex offenders occur but one cannot castrate a woman, a castrated male offender is denied equal protection. Or would the governor “circumcise” a woman offender to discourage her offending again by denying her the chance of pleasure? Then what of the woman who has VAGINAL orgasms? Is SHE punished LESS -- so that the other woman is treated unequally?

How astonishing: A United States state elects to its governorship a lunatic who practices exorcism, believes in and even advocates “intelligent design,” and would impose a punishment one expect only in the most barbarous of barely civilized nations.

what kind of country castrates people? They do this in such great democracies like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, and America? One country should not fit in that list. I wonder which one it is.

They should be more than castrated...

Chemical catration may not be 100% effective, but the law won't let us remove the organs with vise grips and dull, rusty knives. Maybe we could get them to approve the use of fire ants. Would that be more natural and humane?

Forcing chemical castration sets an incredibly dangerous president and hands the government powers we've never seen. This is big-time Orwellian here. It's the first step to the government drugging everyone for everything including population control

Chemical castration should be offered to sex offenders as something they can volunteer for in exchange of a reduced sentence.

Thank you pointing out the drugging issue. I work two hours every day (volunteer work) fighting the Big Pharma and they'd love more government sponsored drugging! :-(

Bobby Jindal is the kind of person I don't want to see in any position of power. Ever. He is rudderless, yet seems to be guided. He is unintelligent, yet appears to have wisdom. Yup, it's him, Mr. wrong. It can be smelled great distances. He is anethema.

Let's see. Was Larry Craig a child abuser? Was he tried for sexual abuse? No, he wasn't so if you're going to single out only people with bad sexual morals then you libs have a lot more to lose.

Huh. Even physical castration doesn't prevent sex offenders from reoffending, doesn't he know that? Sex is 9/10th in the brain and the urge to offend is 100% in the brain. Taking the organ out of commission won't prevent the crime.

Perhaps not but its a good start. I'm a liberal dem but I firmly believe in the death penalty for pedophilia. I've never heard of a pedophile who was able to change. They need to die.

Krikkit is right. Pedophiles and other sexual deviants have mental problems. Cutting off their peckers will only cause them to use sticks or other objects to rape someone. If the state truly wanted to stop sexual predators, they would poke out their eyes and cut off their arms and legs which would make it nearly impossible for them to molest somebody. Fortunately, we currently have a government that would be all too happy to poke out eyes and cut off arms and legs as long as it is being done in the interests of national security.

You'd be KILLING a lot of PRIESTS!

PHYSICALLY castrating or KILLING pedohpiles or rapists is NOT OK with me. Talk about a slippery slope!

And now that I've given it some thought...CHEMICAL castration should be VOLUNTARY...NOT FORCED.

Do you just support the death-penalty for child-molesters, or for paraphilacs who are attracted to children but who don't act on their attraction? How far do you plan to take this preemptive strategy? How many people do you plan to execute for crimes they may or may not commit in the future?

I haven't seen it yet in the comments, but hasn't this already been ruled unconstitutional back in Skinner v. Oklahoma? How could this POSSIBLY be legal?

There are still cases where the judge will offer some form of castration (either chemical or physical) in return for reduced jail time. You'd be surprised how many offenders jump at it.

By the way, he also just passed legislation allowing creationism to be taught in public schools. Now the fun will start. All these repugs who pushed for it will began fighting over exactly what will be taught. I am sure there are a million different versions and that none of them will be satisfied.

And after promising (during his campaign) to veto any legislative pay raises he has announced that he won't veto the largest raise in the history of the state. Even his supporters are angry at him now.
