Louisiana Gov. Jindal Authorizes Chemical Castration Of Sex Offenders

Rising Republican star Bobby Jindal signed legislation allowing judges to force convicted rapists to undergo chemical castration, the Louisiana Advocate reports:

"I am glad we have taken such strong measures in Louisiana to put a stop to these monsters' brutal acts," the governor said in a prepared statement.

Jindal signed Senate Bill 144 into law on the day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Louisiana cannot execute people who rape children under the age of 12.

The governor blasted the high court's decision.

"I am especially glad to sign (SB144) into Louisiana law ... on the same day the Supreme Court has made an atrocious ruling against our state's ability to sentence those who sexually assault our children to the fullest extent," he said.

Jindal, the country's youngest governor and the first with Indian roots, is often cited as a potential Vice Presidental nominee for McCain. He has spoken out in defense of intelligent design and written about his participation in an exorcism.

Not a bad idea as long as you establish his guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. Sex offenders are notorious for striking again. However, I've always heard that sex offenders want power over their victims. It's not always a matter of sex drive.

I'm not "for" rapists by any stretch of the imagination, but I find it more than a little troubling that so many of our politicians are so cavalier with taking the lives of other human beings. Most countries don't have the death penalty for ANY circumstance, yet this one wants to try and push the envelope lower and lower for what qualifies for execution. I have no opinion of this castration thing one way or the other (seems a little extreme to me except in the case of the most violent and high-risk repeat offenders), but the way he blasted the cout yesterday is disheartening.

Now, I wonder how long until LA castrates some 18 year old kid for having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and getting accused of statutory rape by the girl's father.

I jope McCain puts this nut case on his ticket. I was laughing to tears when he said that he wanted to chemically castrate convicted rapists. The problem in this country is that you are only "convicted" if you can not afford a good liar-I mean lawyer. Think about all the "rapists" that have been set free recently when they were found to not be guilty but a victim of a broken system. The overturning of these convictions would be too little too late if we have already burned off their genitals. Jindal is weird. His VP slot would guarantee that "already staggered conservatives" would run for the hills and to Obama. He is an exorcist that belives in chemical castration. Even Hannity and O'Reilley can't put a spin on him. He even looks insane.

I believe rapists, especially those who rape innocent children, should be handled harshly BUT sending them to hard core prisons where all rapists end up "women" or DEAD is good enough for me.

It is a wrong thing to do in all cases because a fair fraction of them are actually wrongly charged or convicted (concentual sex turned into a rape charge etc.). Only in a clear case of child rape (say, child under 12 + violent rape) it is justified. The best recipe : indefinite imprisonment.
