Madonna Divorce

Update:
Friday's UK Sun reports that Guy Ritchie told wife Madonna he is quitting Kabbalah:

"Guy threw himself into it at first and even filled his movie Revolver with obscure references to the faith.

"He was genuinely into it and it helped the bond between them. But then he backtracked a little with his gestures of public backing, like wearing the bracelet, because he didn't like being such a high-profile follower.

"He also became suspicious of all the Kabbalah crowd living off her money.

"But he always told Madonna he had kept his faith -- until now.

"A few weeks ago he told her he doesn't want anything else to do with it. It didn't go down well."

Friday's Mirror claims that Madonna asked for a divorce, and Guy easily agreed.:

Madonna told Guy Ritchie she wants a divorce after the couple agreed they had fallen out of love.

They admitted to each other that their seven-year marriage was doomed because they had simply drifted apart.

A friend said last night: "They were both very calm. Madonna told Guy: 'I'm sorry, I want a divorce'. And he agreed. It was quite painless but very sad."

Last night Guy was holed up alone in his country mansion last night hoping against the odds that he can rescue his doomed marriage to Madonna.

Guy, 39, reluctantly agreed to 49-year-old Madge's request for a divorce to end their turbulent relationship.

But friends said he still nurtures the dream that the final break can be avoided.

Previously:
A UK paper reports Madonna has hired Paul McCartney's divorce attorney, Fiona Shackleton, furthering rumors she and husband Guy Ritchie are going to split:

She did it for Macca - now can she do it for Madonna? Fiona Shackleton, the divorce lawyer who ensured that Sir Paul McCartney retained all but £24.3 million of his £825 million fortune, has been lined up by the pop star.

Madonna, whose fortune is estimated to be worth £300 million, is understood to be seeking legal advice on a possible divorce from her husband of seven years, the film director Guy Ritchie. Ms Shackleton, 52, is the lawyer of choice for the rich and famous after what was regarded as the spectacularly well-handled split of Sir Paul from Heather Mills, who was rumoured to be pushing for £80 million.

Dubbed the "steel magnolia" for her tough but pragmatic negotiation tactics, Ms Shackleton instructed the top divorce silk, Nicholas Mostyn, QC. They secured such a successful result that Ms Mills emptied a jug of water over Ms Shackleton's head after hearing the judge's ruling.

Ms Shackleton also acted for the Prince of Wales in his divorce. Yesterday Madonna's spokesman refused to comment on the claims.

The Sun reports they sleep in separate rooms.

Shackleton is the same attorney on whom Heather Mills dumped a glass a water.

In May Madonna and Guy walked the red carpet together at Cannes, having rarely been spotted as a couple, and stories flew that the pair was living a civilized separation.

If it's from a UK scandal paper - you can't rely on truth or fiction.

Get rid of marriage licenses.

No marriage licenses allowed? No divorces.

Have a religious ceremony if one chooses. No more government decrees.

Now. Let's move on to what's important.

By the way, marriage has absolutely nothing to do with qualifications vital to be a parent. Parenting skills and child development awareness are not reliant on a piece of paper called a marriage license.

Children most thrive from the knowledge and the emotional skills of qualified, educated, non-abusive parents which a marriage license could never measure, monitor or merit.

Why the negative comments?

It's a divorce, It's never easy regardless of who ends it.

You people need to grow the hell up.

I cannot imagine being married to Madonna! It must have been seven years of sheer torture. Good luck, Mr. Ritchie.

Get married, have kids and then bail because you believe your life is more important that everyone else's, including the lives of your children. American morality at it's conveniently irresponsible and destructive best. It should be much, much harder to get married than it is to get divorced. Some people don't deserve families because they're too selfish to love others more than they love themselves, and because they're better at destroying things than they are at building them. Love isn't what you get, it's what you give.

Um, he's British.

And I don't think anyone's holding a gun to his head. I expect he's rather psyched to be out of this marriage. I mean, as psyched as anyone can be for an emotional amputation...

the thing i truly enjoy about blogs, is that everyone comments with such authority. like they've seen and done it all. anonymity is an awesome thing.

He looks like he's gay and she's a female freak show and world renowned witch (or something that rhymes with it). Not usually a good combination.

Hello Mrs. Pot, I'm Mr. Kettle, nice to meet you
so flattered that you took the time to view my comments
skimmed through yours myself
found it funny that you think of Russell Crowe as a "smug bastard" but seem to be so easily offended by people saying similar things about Madonna

I say "NO DIVORCE". Divorce is killing traditional marriage. As Jesus said, "what God has joined together, let no man put asunder". We all need to go out and protest against divorce and ask our representatives, state and national, to pass laws protecting marriage by making it almost impossible to get a divorce, except in extraordinary circumstances, like where the woman messes up. I mean, what will happen next if we let divorce continue? Who knows, television networks might come up with shows where marriage is but a mere game show--like where a single man or woman has to chose a wife of husband from 100 contestants. Celebrities could go to Vegas, get drunk and marry "just for the heck of it" and file for divorce (there it is again!) thirty six hours later.

Something has to be done!

Homosexuals are causing divorce and it's about time we put our foot down.

Or we could feed the poor and not bomb other countries unless they attack us.

I bet Jesus cares more about that, than whether unhappy people stay in their marriages even if it makes them and their children miserable.

Yeah, let's all go back to the 19th century, when divorce was a scandal and couples stayed in painful, loveless marriages sometimes for their whole lives. Great idea.

I was the product of an abusive marriage that dragged on far too long. My outwardly successful parents privately lived a life of cold, angry silence punctuated by outbursts of rage and abuse. It got worse and worse. Who paid the price? I did.

Divorce was inevitable. It was as bad as the dysfunction, and itself dragged on for years. I wouldn't wish any of this on anyone. It all added up to a horrible childhood and adolescence, which no doubt contributed to the depression I have fallen into from time to time throughout my life.

Fact is, marriages end. Some of them should never have been entered into at all. Divorce is unhappy, but necessary.

I say "NO MARRIAGE" to begin with. Who needs to be trapped forever into a stupid decision made in during the heat of rutting season?

One word: security

Even if Mr. Ritchie ends up with just a million, he made out well. Personally, one million wouldn't be worth tolerating Madonna for one hour, much less several years. It would have to be one-hundred million -- nothing less.

Notice that he hasn't produced much work since he married Moodonna, at least nothing noteworthy. Remember "Swept Away"? I always thought he was a vital film director whose talent is going to waste.

Well she's a huge star and he was an up and coming hot filmmaker. Now he's made several terrible films (one with her) and his star is fading away.

She's famous, he no longer is and he can't handle it. The old "STAR IS BORN" syndrome.

Or: he's no longer hip, and **she** can't handle it, for her own selfish reasons that have nothing to do with how good a man he is.

Or, most likely - as it seems an amicable split, maybe they just don't want to be married any more.

I actually think Madonna is pretty cool, but it is pretty evident that she has lost her looks, for the most part.
Guy probably had more comely options and took them.
Madonna used to be one of the sexiest women on earth, but we all get old.

I have the opposite reaction. I used to think she was so homely, and has become more and more attractive. I am disappointed that her marriage is ending.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:13 AM on 06/26/2008

I agree. It may come as a surprise to many but not all men are attracted to only younger women. I find mature women much sexier.

He's no prize in the looks department, but then again men can be butt ugly and 90 and still have plenty of "options" open to them.

Hey, they have been able to paste parts of her face back together pretty well. A lot of make-up and she almost looks normal. Just don't look at her hands though. Like, crypt keeper hands. Shudder.

*Age* has nothing to do with whether Madonna is still sexy or not -- look at Tina Turner who in her SIXTIES is still sexy as can be. Madonna could stand to learn some from her example. Instead, she's turning more into a Mae West (who she's kinda been all along).

Does anybody ever stay married?? They have this kid together, then go and adopt another one just to have them end up in another broken home. I'd like to say that I'm surprised, but this seems to be the norm now - AND we have the nerve to ask what is wrong with our society.

I know a lot of gay couples who have been together for decades - too bad they can't marry. That might improve marriage statistics.

That is so lame.

I know a lot of straight couples who've been together for decades and strangly it's had no effect on the divorce rate.

I think maybe gay marriage is a non-issue and has no relevance to anything.

Or maybe if gays could marry, there would be world peace, no hunger, no pain and no disease because everyone knows once gays can marry all will be well in the world.
