In a speech on climate change in Florida, the California governor diverged from his prepared remarks to blast supporters of offshore drilling.

America is so addicted to oil that it will take years to ween ourselves from it. To look for new ways to feed our addiction is not the answer. Anyone who tells you this would bring down gas prices anytime soon is blowing smoke.

John McCain, who Schwarzenegger endorsed in January, recently became one of those people. He explained his sudden support for offshore drilling by arguing that it would be ""very helpful in the short term resolving our energy crisis." The Huffington Post couldn't find an expert who thought McCain's plan would actually provide short-term relif.

I just don't follow this. Lets take it as a given that Obama's plans work as proposed and by 2030 with all the investments (much greater than the billions he proposes) suceeed. We still will be importing 10M barrels of oil (at least). If we produced 1-2 millions barrels of oil at 100$/Bbl we would reduce our foreign spending 100 to 200M$/day or 36 to 72 Billion dollars a year. Not a huge amnount on the scale of federal spending, it never hurts. So what is the downside? Each state can make its own decision to allow or not off shore drilling. If California does not want it, it can say no. If all states say no OK. It seems to me this has nothing to do with whether we use more oil or not.

McBush, McPuppet, McFlip-flop, who is he? He has no integrity and is pandering to whomever is necessary. He is not his own man. I do not trust this war-mongerer on Iran, or Iraq. This country is headed in the wrong direction. I hope everyone can seriously see that. I have more respect for Obama than I will ever have for any republican. They have bought the courts, are above the law, have sold America to the effect that our dollar means nothing, and Karl Rove laughs at us. What will it take, people. I trust Obama on each and every issue, period. If McBush wants to keep the rich rich, and the middle-class and poor poorer, then you need to vote for him. I hate war.

I won't be surprised if he does. He clearly is uncomfortable with the GOP these days, and he's popular enough that he could get re-elected even if the wingnuts mounted a strong primary challenge.

"John McCain is a campaign finance criminal who is flouting the very regulations he championed."

Sign the McCain FEC complaint. at the website below:

http://www.americablog.com/2008/03/john-mccain-is-campign-finance.html

John McCain is a "campaign finance criminal." The Washington Post even reported on the potential for criminal behavior by McCain:

Knowingly violating the spending limit is a CRIMINAL OFFENSE that could put McCain at risk of stiff fines and up to five years in prison.
Now, based on McCain's latest campaign finance report in March, John McCain violated the spending limit. John McCain has spent $58.4 million on his Republican primary effort. Those who have committed to public financing CANNOT SPEND MORE THAN $54 million on their primary bid.

So, it's time to take it to the next level. Jane delivered a complaint about McCain's criminality to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) -- and gives the background:

If the press is NOT going to ask the necessary questions, then we have to do it ourselves.

Too hold John McCain accountable -- sign your name to the complaint at the website address I provided ABOVE. AT THAT LINK: you'll find a copy of the FEC filing and a list of signatories thus far.

Sign the compliant and get the word out . McCain needs to be held accountable for violations of the law especially the one that has his own name on it.

Memo to John "jed clampet" McCain: next time you are in the woods shootin up some food, don't think that up from the ground there's gonna come some bubblin ooze...lol Pull the rip cord and bail out the plane. I've admired Arnold for his dare to be different than your typical Repugs.
I really enjoyed hearing his speech on Global Warming from Jan 9 2007 (video)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xyfo7_schwarzenegger-on-global-warming-ja_news

Then later in the year, how he again worked hard for changes, only to be shot down from Dec 20 2007:
E.P.A. Says 17 States Can"t Set Emission Rules
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/20/washington/20epa.html

Of course the Automakers praised the decision... naturally
(if the above was not denied, my state of Oregon would have gladly followed)

And reading his interview here made me admire the man all the more:
Schwarzenegger vs. the Feds

Arnold is really a great guy and does great things for my neighboring US State, but sadly his downfall is supporting McCain.

I think what is going on is a new generation of Republicans is rising in the mode of Arnold. Know why he's in FL? Crist is on board the Arnie train. CA and FL like their Repub Governors fairly well. I for one would welcome a change from social to fiscal conservatism in their party. There used to be the idea that the conservatives were the head and liberals were the heart of America and no one was in favor of this neo-con notion that there should be only one ruling party in our country.

I'm a huge fan of Theodore Roosevelt (Progressive Republican) and Barry Goldwater (Conservative Republican by the standards of his day). Let me tell you, Goldwater WAS a conservative. But he didn't see Democrats as the enemy and his record is of compromise, bipartisanship, and political leadership.

To tell you the truth, I think the GOP is going to have to really suffer some defeats over the coming decade or so, not just this next election. The party needs to do some real soul searching if it's going to stand for anything other than raping the taxpayer and "the war on culture". I just hope we can get it together instead of being led around by the nose by the same old snake oil salesmen.

The Texas arm of the repugs has done more harm to this country than anyone else; Bush, Army, DeLay, Gramm........

I was shocked and dismayed when Arnold was elected as CA guv, but I've changed my mind over his term. He really wants to make a difference, and he's learning the system is brutally unfair. He's pretty tough for an actor.

Don't get too cozy with paying homage to Barry Golwater.
He hated Hispanics.

The irony is his grandson is a 'Gay Rights Miltant' in Phoenix.
Nothing wrong with that.
