Near the end of an otherwise unremarkable interview with Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner (both of whom have developed what I'll refer to henceforth as "caricature coifs") about an upcoming Hunter S. Thompson documentary, PBS' Charlie Rose slipped in this little question, rather nonchalantly I might add:

"So what's this story that Condé Nast wants to buy Rolling Stone?"

It's hard to believe that Conde Nast could do any worse a job with Rolling Stone than Wenner has over the last 25 years. What was once the best youth culture magazine on the planet (and also featured some fine investigative reporting) was turned into basically an appendage of Wenner's other well known property, US Magazine, and RS was basically rendered unreadable and irrelevant.

So this proposed sale is a big yawn for me. And you have Wenner to thank for that.

Have not looked at one in 20 plus years. It became very corporate.

I've enjoyed reading it. But drug testing? I went to Lowe's the other day and they had a sign out about drug testing their employees. I thought it was weird to put it on the front door. It implied that they are safe but other places might be kind of shady. In the end, I didn't buy anything.

Jann Wenner is such a sell-out. He made his millions from publishing stories about the radical, pot-smoking creative artists of my generation who led the cultural revolution.

Now, his company uses drug testing for their own employees. He is the embodiment of self-serving hypocrisy.

Graydon Carter is a jealous of his most popular contributing writer, Dominick Dunne. If it wasn't for Dunne's column, I would never pick up his magazine.

And those two are making a movie about Hunter Thompson? I bet it won't mention a word of the weird questions surrounding Hunter, and Bohemian Grove, and snuff films.

Rolling Stone has become unreadable. Maybe Cande will be Naste enough to bring it back.

That's nasty, Conde Nasty!
