Joe

This week, Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films launched LiebermanMustGo.com, a website petitioning Senate Democrats to strip Sen. Joseph Lieberman of his powerful committee positions in 2009.

Greenwald writes:

Lieberman still holds a top rank within the Senate Democratic Caucus as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The Senate Democratic Steering Committee needs to know just how much of a conflict of interest this is. That's why we created Lieberman Must Go.

Here's what you can do: Sign our petition today and tell the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Lieberman of his leadership role in Congress. Then, e-mail this video to everyone you know and spread it on sites like Digg and elsewhere.

Recently in Talking Points Memo, Josh Marshall suggested that the best way to limit Lieberman is by encouraging the Steering Committee to render him powerless in 2009. Lieberman must go, and you can make that happen by donating to Brave New Films today.

Yesterday, Lieberman himself responded to the campaign. The Hartford Courant reports:

When asked about the new www.LiebermanMustGo.com Web site, Sen. Joe Lieberman said this afternoon that it certainly had the right to collect signatures demanding he be shoved out of his Democratic Party positions next year. But he said, "I think most people in this country are really tired of this kind of partisan politicking."

So, what's his plan to counter the petition?

Lieberman joked, "I'm not going to sign."

I am beginning to believe that John Pilger who has been correct on so many
other issues is right about Obama.

I was a supporter, but no longer.

Obama dances the sideways shuffle with Iran who has every right to explore the capabilities
of enriched uranium. For either peaceful purposes or for deterrents against terrorist states.

Obama is just another APIC candidate.

Ron Paul is looking better all the time.

Sadly

Lieberman: "I think most people in this country are really tired of this kind of partisan politicking."

Really, Joe? Do you really think so?

I really wish that Democrats were better at partisan politicking. It's when they avoid it that we get the worst legislation.

People are finally overcoming their fear of being unjustly painted with the "anti-semitic" brush for mentioning the " I-word " in reference to Senator Lieberman.
While I support Israel's right to exist and support America's duty to help defend Israel if they were to come under an unprovoked attack from any hostile nation(s), I also believe if you could hook Joe Lieberman up to a polygraph and ask him which country he loves & considers himself a citizen of, the true answer would NOT be the U.S. I think Lieberman believes in the Likkud-like philosophy that Israel can do no wrong, has a right to build settlements anywhere they like, and that the USA must blindly, unilaterally and without question support and militarily defend Israel in any scenario at any cost.

This is also why Lieberman is a Democrat in name only and has crossed over to the Republican unilteral neocon side of foreign policy, and also why he has a problem with Obama and Obama's policy of the necessary establishment of a Palistinian state and their right to (also like Israel) exist in peace.

I'll hear shouts of "Israel-hater" and "anti-semite" from the usual suspects. But this topic needs to be dialogued more honestly and often in the open by American citizens who, like me, support Israel, but put America's welfare first. Liberman's personal dedication to Israel suspercedes his loyalty to this country and is the root cause for his current political behavior.

"if you could hook Joe Lieberman up to a polygraph and ask him which country he loves & considers himself a citizen of, the true answer would NOT be the U.S."

While we're at it, we ought to hook you up to a polygraph and ask you what you think of Jews in general.
You may think that you're only criticizing his support for Israel, but claiming that a Jew, by supporting Israel, is fundamentally disloyal to the US IS anti-Semetic. Can you tell me one substantive difference between Lieberman's position on Israel and Hillary Clinton's? Or Hatch's? Or Webb's? Or Durbin's? Or Salazar's? Or Bayh's? Or Harkin's? Or Pelosi's? Or Cantwell's, Or Obama's? I could go on, but you get the picture.
The only reason you equate Lieberman's support for Israel with disloyalty is because he's Jewish. You don't seem like someone who reads very much, but you may want to look up Emile Zola and the Albert Dreyfuss affair. You may learn something.

P.S. So you know, I'm Catholic (maybe you want to hook me up to a polygraph and ask about my loyalty to the Vatican).

This campaign's really should be focused on establishing grassroots infrastructure to support virtually Democratic challenger there and do all they can to unseat Liebs. Even if he becomes irrelevant after the next election cycle, he needs to be punished for actions. Kick him out of the party for starters and that way he has to join the GOP (or Likud, either or).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:35 PM on 06/28/2008

He's already "out" of the Party, in case no one heard...he went to Independent...

How he fooled anyone into re-electing him is beyond my comprehension...but then, look who got into the White House again...people are really dumb...they don't check things out, or they don't want to bother learning what is going on...

Lieberman...aka JOKE

Now, let me go sign that petition!!!

The new congress will take care of The Lieb.

The Lieb is a bush league Quisling. When the going got tough for real patriots, Americans smart enough to read the writing on the wall in Iraq, The Lieb opted to go with what he perceived as "power" rather than take the hard road with his party and oppose institutionalized abuse of power. The failure of The Bush League is a personal failure for The Lieb.

The Lieb has no place among the leadership in the coming Democratic Party super majorities in both houses of congress.

I would add that Connecticut has some other serious problems. Kelo. Dodd. The Lieb. It all adds up.

They can only do that if there is a true Democratic majority. With Joe making it 51, it is a small price to pay for Committee majority and leadership position. It is political...and with the exception of all things involving Israel, JL is more a Dem than Repug. Now don't get me wrong, I wish he hadn't won the Independent seat (did you know Obama campaigned for him?), but the way it turned out we needed him to be senate majority party.

We can only hope the "new congress" will do SOMETHING! Isn't that what we were saying in 2004 when all the Dem's took over, or should I said, acquired the majority. THAT is the only reason Lieberman votes "with" the Dems.

But I haven't seen any of the new congress do anything other than kiss up to the Repugs. God help us if this continues much longer.

This guys love of Israel is greater than his love for America. How can a state have a Senator like Dodd on one hand AND this self centered jackass?

Was Lieberman ever a Democrat? After watching "Recount" on HBO, I was reminded how his comments short circuited the Democratic position during the recount in FL.

I'm looking forward to the day that Lieberman, Lindsey Graham and McCain (who all claim everything is fine in Iraq) have the guts to walk around Iraq without a protective force. If the surge really worked, they should be able to do that without getting killed.
