Joe

This week, Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films launched LiebermanMustGo.com, a website petitioning Senate Democrats to strip Sen. Joseph Lieberman of his powerful committee positions in 2009.

Greenwald writes:

Lieberman still holds a top rank within the Senate Democratic Caucus as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The Senate Democratic Steering Committee needs to know just how much of a conflict of interest this is. That's why we created Lieberman Must Go.

Here's what you can do: Sign our petition today and tell the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Lieberman of his leadership role in Congress. Then, e-mail this video to everyone you know and spread it on sites like Digg and elsewhere.

Recently in Talking Points Memo, Josh Marshall suggested that the best way to limit Lieberman is by encouraging the Steering Committee to render him powerless in 2009. Lieberman must go, and you can make that happen by donating to Brave New Films today.

Yesterday, Lieberman himself responded to the campaign. The Hartford Courant reports:

When asked about the new www.LiebermanMustGo.com Web site, Sen. Joe Lieberman said this afternoon that it certainly had the right to collect signatures demanding he be shoved out of his Democratic Party positions next year. But he said, "I think most people in this country are really tired of this kind of partisan politicking."

So, what's his plan to counter the petition?

Lieberman joked, "I'm not going to sign."

LIEberman clearly hates this country. At best, he thinks nothing of it or its people. why would a group form to end his charade as a democrat and as a supposed representative of the people of Conn.? isn't it obvious?

Joe should shorten his last name. The last 6 letters don't really add anything.

Lieberman is not the only one who should go. The democratic leadership should also be replaced if they don't do something to really punish the current administration that will put fear in future politicians who lie in order to bring us to war, to secure a media free of corporate influence which can be relied on to bring us the truth without worrying about their bottomline, and to untie the overwhelming corporate influence on our politicians. Both the Democratic and Republican parties are very much right of the center of the feelings of most Americans at this time. I do not like this metaphor of left and right, but what the public wants is change in the form of progress and it is not more of the same of either of the parties leadership; they have both failed us.

My impression is that Lieberman brings in some big money for his fellow Democrats. Don't get your hopes up that the Dems in Congress are going to do what is right for the country.

Are you all daft? The Democrats in the senate only hold the majority because Lieberman votes with them on most Democratic initiatives. If he goes away in a snit the Reeps win. With Kennedy on the injured reserve list along with Johnson they can not muster 51 votes. So get a grip fellas and hold your fire until there are more Democrats in the senate.

The favor JL got to vote with the Dems is head of the Homeland Security committee........small price to pay for the majority leadership........but then Obama helped him in his campaign to beat the Democrat, Ned Lamont; so what does that tell you?

A solid Democratic senate majority is the only way to marginalize this guy. Because he does vote with Dems most of the time, the razor thin Dem majority in the Senate allows him to hold the party hostage to his interest in protecting, preserving the State of Israel. We've got to stop needing him and his votes. While Israel is certainly a critically important ally, when push comes to shove, Lieberman is only too willing to sell out our brave armed forces with this dreadful war to protect his spiritual homeland. His divided loyalties cloud his best judgement. Why he doesn't resign and work full time for Isreal country he obviously loves, is beyond me (oh, wait a minute, he already does!)The American people deserve undivided loyalties in their elected officials. Lieberman is hardly better than a mole for a foreign government.

Liebermann is not a Democrat. He is a member of the Likud.

Now this is really sounding Anti-Semetic. Are we going to continue with this diatribe through November too?

he has abandoned his party and he gets crap for it.

republicans who abandon their party get praised by dems.

very hypocritical.

Why is it that everything you write is always wrong? Lieberman abandoned his party because the Democrats voted for someone other than him in their primary election and he decided that he was more important than what his constituents desired and ran as an Independent.

Yes, Republicans who switch political parties are praised by Democrats and Democrats who switch parties get praised by Republicans....oh, that's right, Lieberman is the only Democrat to turn traitor and even he chose not to be openly Republican (even though he was obviously a closet republican for a long time....look how he helped Bush to win against Gore).

New York has five boroughs and Connecticut isn't one of them!

Lieberman is a sad clown. He has pissed all over his historical legacy and few will remember him fondly.

Even though his legacy is so awful, his personality so unbearable, and it almost seems to be punishment enough for Joe Lieberman to be who he is, I still don't want to see his scowling mug in the media, and the sooner we can be rid of him, the better.

I'm so sad Al Gore picked Lieberman to run as VP. He probably ruined Al's campaign on purpose.

No, the butterfly ballot was their undoing....Pat Buchanan got 97,000 retired Jewish votes in Palm Beach.

I hope Connecticut is proud of who they voted for. They let themselves be frighten by the Republicans into electing him. Now they have to live with him. I guess Connecticut has a lot of those "Low Information Voters".

I support Israel as much as the next person, but....with Lieberman, whats next? We should bomb Iran, then Syria, then Pakistan.... better yet, lets just nuke the whole middle east - except Israel. Bring those damn Muslims to their knees. Isn't that a scary thought?

Well, in 4 years when Lieberman is voted OUT of office, there will be only be 99 Likud
Senators left in the US Senate.
