Joe Lieberman Responds To 'Lieberman Must Go' Campaign

This week, Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films launched LiebermanMustGo.com, a website petitioning Senate Democrats to strip Sen. Joseph Lieberman of his powerful committee positions in 2009.

Greenwald writes:

Lieberman still holds a top rank within the Senate Democratic Caucus as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The Senate Democratic Steering Committee needs to know just how much of a conflict of interest this is. That's why we created Lieberman Must Go.

Here's what you can do: Sign our petition today and tell the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Lieberman of his leadership role in Congress. Then, e-mail this video to everyone you know and spread it on sites like Digg and elsewhere.

Recently in Talking Points Memo, Josh Marshall suggested that the best way to limit Lieberman is by encouraging the Steering Committee to render him powerless in 2009. Lieberman must go, and you can make that happen by donating to Brave New Films today.

Yesterday, Lieberman himself responded to the campaign. The Hartford Courant reports:

When asked about the new www.LiebermanMustGo.com Web site, Sen. Joe Lieberman said this afternoon that it certainly had the right to collect signatures demanding he be shoved out of his Democratic Party positions next year. But he said, "I think most people in this country are really tired of this kind of partisan politicking."

So, what's his plan to counter the petition?

Lieberman joked, "I'm not going to sign."

Honestly can anyone really tell that the Democrats are in charge? We are still in Iraq, the war still gets funded, America still tortures, there still is no accountability, the justice department is still dysfunctional, we still are getting spied on and President Bush still has not been impeached. Can someone please remind me why Lieberman is so important again?

It's a shame what far-left liberals have tried to do to Joe Lieberman. Yes, he is not for pulling troops out of Iraq and declaring defeat. Get over it.

He is still a liberal and a Democrat. He seems to vote his conscience. He seems to be one of the more ethical congresspersons this country. He votes in line with Democrats over 90 percent of the time. But Lieberman follows his conscience on one issue and far-left loons are ready to hang him from a yardarm.

I thought progressives and liberals were supposed to open to different ideals. I thought your were suppossed to embrace diversity. I guess I thought this because you spend so much time trying to preach to conservatives like myself. So when I see and hear things like this about Lieberman I can't help but wonder how deep the hypocrisy goes.

Lieberman won his senate seat back when he ran as an independent and drew enough Republican votes to beat Ned Lamont. Since then he's become John McCain's best friend, accompanied him to Iraq and campaign stops and will now be a featured speaker at the Republican Convention. No Democrat, no liberal would do such things.

I want to answer why hamas or any terrorist for that matter would welcome Obama for President. Stop and think about it for a moment. The terrorists have us just where they want us and they are winning. How you ask; because for every 12 million they spend we spend 12 billion (not to mention what it does for their recruiting) and it is in the interest of America's enemies to keep us doing just that in order to collapse the American economy and weaken the military. Do you really think the terrorists goal was to defeat us militarily. Please, they knew that was never a possability.
