Think Progress:

Eight days ago in Jacksonville, Florida, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) predicted to a crowd of supporters that he would soon face race-based attacks from the right:

They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?

And it sure got a lot attention paid to the fact that he called Obama an elitist.......if he had just said, Obama is an elitist like Kerr, it wouldn't have had much traction........think about it. With the sensitivity of hp and MSM on racism, these things really become big stories. They defeated Gore and Kerry with the "elitist lable."

It seems odd for people to really believe that the far right is not going to attack Obama as the other whether its his name his church his African ancestry his wife etc. Now I would say this Gover comment is small and Obama needs to prush it to the side but we all know the far right will use every thing they can to take down Obama. Its really sad when I see black women who are conservatives taking this types of shots at Obama.

Of course, they are silent. Racism is what Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Laura what-ever her name is and many other of the republican party stand for. All republicans are not racist, but they are the minority with love in their hearts, not bigotry and hatred. McBush will never speak out or against it because he thinks it will help him win the election, along with the smears and lies against Obama. NOT! I commend Obama for neutralizing them when he did; it was not an injection of race into the election, but a true statement of fact that is well known and has been well proved. Republicans, stop thinking that GOD loves only you. America is GOD'S, not yours, as Sean Hannity &Co. like to think.

Commentators such as Laura Ingram or Sean Hannity will only criticize a GOP surrogate they say something like "Under no circumstances can we elect a black man as president of the United States" or "Obama is a n*****." Everything in between will be Liberals are the ones playing the race card or being too sensitive.

The Republican strategy reminds me of students at an exclusive prep school that has a 2-3 blacks who will make racial jokes and then say to the black student "I was just joking...can't you take a joke."

If Norquist was on a bulletin board he would have been greeted with a simple message "stop feeding the troll"

It is any sort of surprise that the reactionaries are not criticizing each other for being racists?

Grover wants to drown government in the bathtub, cut taxes for rich people and keep taxpayer subsidies for big business. That's why he said Obama's like Kerry.

Its Grover Freakin Norquist for Pete's sake. He should be sharing a cell with Abramoff. Of course he thinks Barack has a tan because he doesn't realize African-Americans are able to vote yet, much less run for office.

This is the only way Republicans can campaign, by denigrating people, and using race. They know they cannot win on their own merits. This party, GWB, and John McBush have desecrated everything good about America. They know they cannot win, so the swift boats are at full speed. After McBush promised a civil campaign, I guess the straight talk express is way off track. He allows surrogates to say such unseemly things, and keeps quiet, rather than controlling his party. He is no leader, but he is an warmongering has been who will put this country into nuclear war if he is elected. SAME ON REPUBLICANS who campaign like this in the name of thier party. DISGUSTING, all of them!

Once again Obama is 110% correct when describing his ring wing detractors. Im surprised the GOP attack dogs made it a whole 8 days before doing exactly what Obama predicted: making racial based attacks against him. The fact that republicans are so quick to stay silent whenever these racially smears are launched at Obama makes me want to ask: is it too soon to wonder if the republican party is infact the party of racists? If the answer is 'no' then where is the commentary from those inside the party leadership to reject this type of statement? There's no shortage of examples of these attacks by the GOP's media attack dogs, but there's a complete shortage of the denouncement of these very same attacks from the right wing. There is only one obvious conclusion.

Obama is not a psychic. Being part black he knows the racist comments will come when all other avenues have been exhausted, if not played first. Growing up underprivileged while black and just happening to survive gives you a serious learning curve.

Conservatives can't answer Norquist comments because he pulled back the curtain on them all while they were still getting dressed. Too embarrassing.

One suggestion:

Calll and/or email any Republican Congressman or Senator from your state or district and

tell them that until you hear a PUBLIC RENOUNCEMENT FROM THEM, you

will hold them accountable as well.

SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN..........................

I agree. We need to use whatever clout at hand to denounce and push back against the racism, avarice, mendacity, and immorality that has taken over our political process. It used to be that dangerous racists wore white robes and burned crosses in people's lawns. Now they use the airwaves whose licenses are awarded by the FCC, a federal agency, to spread their messages of division. We need to protest racist remarks the way the hard right did Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" or George Carlin's "Seven Deadly Words".
