Bill Clinton Speaking

The Telegraph:

Bill Clinton is so bitter about Barack Obama's victory over his wife Hillary that he has told friends the Democratic nominee will have to beg for his wholehearted support.

Mr Obama is expected to speak to Mr Clinton for the first time since he won the nomination in the next few days, but campaign insiders say that the former president's future campaign role is a "sticking point" in peace talks with Mrs Clinton's aides.

The Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his intransigence.

A senior Democrat who worked for Mr Clinton has revealed that he recently told friends Mr Obama could "kiss my ass" in return for his support.

if all this is true then Bill needs to stay in an institution! A behavior like this from an ex-prez and the party's icon? It must a cruel joke . Now, Obama doesn't even need Hillary's support let alone Bill's. Imagine if someone who really need Bill's help, they must have scrawled on their all four. Obama said he needs Hill & Bill's help "badly" but all the polls showed he is leading without their help. So why all these "humble" talks? It has the effect of institionalizing a myth that Billl Clinton is God! No, he is not and has shown in this race is the worst ex-prez who is unethical and full of his own importance at the expense of his party. Why don't we all just let him fade into the shadow and sulk by himself?

Oh, come on. Be fair. He is NOT the worst ex-president. That title is currently held by Repubican Nixon, and soon to be replaced by Repubican Duuhbuhya. Bill is no where NEAR the worst ex-president.

More fresh meat for the Clinton-haters. Being a Clinton supporter, I now support Obama fully, but I am still waiting for positive thoughts about Obama to counter the over whelming Clinton bashing. Somehow the Clintons are to blame for everything, it will be their fault if McLame wins (which is so unlikely anyway). Waiting for the day to open up a Huffpost article that is free of commenters still whining about the Clintons. It is very telling how Obama got elected, it was really all about hating the Clintons. Hopefully that is not going to be an error.

If what you post is even partially correct then there is no question nominating Obama was no error.
If 1/2 the dems are Clinton haters, as you posted, then she would stand no chance of winning the general since almost every registered republican is also a Clinton hater.
This has always been my contention as far as Hillary was concerned. I could not see her winning a general election when she couldnt even secure a majority of her own partys support.

people see only what they want. there are plenty of anti-Obama comments all over the web, including here. the washingtonpost.com web site is rampant with them.

As to bill's comments, i would not be surprised if he said those words. he can be a loose cannon when he gets angry. it's actually kind of sad to see someone who was revered so much - in spite of all his mistakes - devolving into a cranky, bitter old man in front of the world.

You aren't getting that from Obama. You are projecting that on the candidate. Obama has been nothing but nice to the Clintons. He refrained from attacking them in the primary, and was very much the gentleman. One can't say the same for the inept way Hill's campaign was run. The Clintons have much to blame themselves for here, rather than Obama.

If the quote is true it's kinda hard to like the Big Dog anymore, but it's not about "hating" the Clintons. Hate is an overused word. A better fit is somewhere between perplexed and frustrated. Personally, I've always felt bemused compassion for both Clintons--difficult though it seems at times. Bill is a posthumous child brought up in a dysfunctional, violent family. He remains an untreated sex addict, and may be acting like a "dry drunk." Hillary is, well, stuck with Bill's adolescent impulse disorders.
Bill was a fine president, although a bit too centrist. Unfortunately, he will spend the rest of his life reflecting on how he destroyed his own legacy when he lied about Monica, setting up the Republican coup d'etat, which succeeded in taking him out of the last years of his presidency and the 2000 election. That is tough to handle, a horrible "coulda been" with no one to blame but himself. Now it's compounded by the near miss on Hillary's election. This would have made up for all his past errors and cemented both Clintons' places in the history books--a very bitter pill to swallow.

Do you not place any accountability on the Clintons for the harsh feeling Obama supports have for them?

I mean come on, if this report is true, that Obama can "Kiss my Ass", how can a thinking person, whether or not one agrees, how can a thinking person not understand the frustration?

I only had to read the title and I felt my blood boil. Kiss my Ass, Obama is not some step and fetch it character. Show him some respect.

They lost. Period. Get over it or beat it. We don't need the Clintons, especially not Bill.

Unresolved resentment and jealousy cause bitterness and stress. Prolonged, unresolved stress shortens your life expectancy. This is especially so for cardiac patients. Too bad Bill doesn't have a close family member who loves him enough to help him accept this defeat and enjoy what life he has left.
And as my psychologist once observed to me, "A friend in need is a pain in the ass." It's clear from the article that Bill's old friends and colleagues regard his bitter rage as unprofessional in the political "game", and are not comfortable with it. For us lesser mortals, it's like having a friend who is consumed with bitterness over a divorce. We put up with it for a little while, and then we just avoid them.

Good point. Bill has a lot of "issues." (See my post above). He is clearly not working his 12 steps to recover from sex addiction. His outbursts reflect deep seated traumas, which he has sublimated and used to propell his political ambition. He finds love in the adulation of the crowd and the conquest of bimbos. (I suspect he's lost the old fire in the latter area). In short, unless he starts working on Bill he will continue to dissolve in bitterness, clinging to his highly distorted view of the past six months. Anyone that can say Obama played the race card needs a lot of help. In my lifetime (63 years) I cannot recall a past president behaving so badly.
Bill, get help now!

Dear Senator Clinton:

I hope you're reading this or maybe one of your lackies can relay this message. Reign in Bill right away ! he's hurting your chances for anything else in the future. Those feelings of anger at the treatment can cut both ways when Fmr Pres. Clinton invites Sen Obama to his posterior. I'm finally starting to get over the animosity that I felt at the way your husband attacked Sen Obama in South Carolina and his over-all dismissive attitude toward the Obamas. Soon the good people of the State of New York are going to take notice and ask themselves, do they want their Senator that represents them and her spouse using vulgar language about another federally elected official in public. This article has totally changed my attitude about Fmr Pres Clinton in a negative way.

PLEASSE GIVE ME A BREAK, VULGAR LANGUAGE, FIRST OF ALL NO ONE KNOWS IF THIS WAS SAID, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT OBAMA, IN ORDER TO WIN THE BLACK VOTE IN S CAROLINA, MADE THE CLINTON'S LOOK LIKE RACISTS. IF I WERE BILL CLINTON, I WOULD TELL OBAMA TO GO TO HELL AND BACK. BUT I KNOW THAT BILL WILL NOT DO THAT, HE IS NOT THAT KIND OF PERSON, EVEN WITH THE HATE FOR HIM COMING OUT OF THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN IN THE PRIMARY. I SAY NO OBAMA FOR ME, THAT HYPOCRITE.

Although I'm black, I will try to put myself in Bill Clinton's shoes:

If I am not a racist, then no one, not even someone as brilliant as Senator Barack Obama, can "make me look like a racist." If I alone make the choice to speak words that are racially charged, like choosing to compare Senator Obama's campaign and victory in S.C. to Jesse Jackson's, another black candidate in the past, rather than to use myself or any other white candidate as a more recent comparison, then I cannot hold Senator Obama responsible for the choice I made. If, in making that choice and uttering those words, I appeared to be marginalizing Senator Obama as 'the black candidaate," and thereby aroused the suspicion and concern of black Americans, and Americans in general, I cannot hold Senator Obama responsible for this either. Senator Obama himself came to my defense and said that he did not believe that race was a factor in my choice of words, but by then the damage had been done, not by Senator Obama, but by me. I am not a racist, but I single-handedly provided the context by which some have judged me to be so; and it is therefore up to me, not to Senator Obama, to redeem my good name. If I don't, some will continue to see me not only as a racist but as a hypocrite as well, and that is exactly what I would be.

What a shame that Bill has changed so much since when he was one of the best presidents we ever had. He is so brilliant and has such powers of persuasion that he could be a huge help in getting another democratic president. However, it seems that he is just as selfish as Hilary. The idea of having to play second fiddle to anyone is completely alien to his thoughts. The only one he was able to conceive in the role of president was his wife for deep down he thought of himself as continuing to be in power if only behind the throne. I would prefer that he not try to help Obama for he will only damn him with faint praise. I am disappointed at his lack of dignity. Poor loser.

I feel pretty much the same way. The only people who seem to think Obama needs Bill Clinton's endorsement are the MSM. Obama is up to 15 points ahead in some polls, behind in none that I am aware of and if this article hadn't been printed no one would have cared or questioned his absence from the scene except the MSM.

He has a right to be upset. The Obama campaign did not come to his defense when the media harped on his words and twisted them to make him appear a racist. The Obama campaign ran with the headlines to its advantage and chose to continue the media's line of BS. Pres. Clinton may be a lot of things, but he is not a racist. I can think of nothing more vile to call someone who has devoted their lives to advancing minority interests than calling them a racist. It was ridiculous and uncalled for and almost impossible to recover from, so I can understand why Pres. Clinton is upset. There will always be Clinton haters who will never see it from Pres. Clinton's side, but they should. I said for months that it was probably not a good idea for the Obamaites to play those games with the Clintons, that Obama would need both of them. I hate to say I told you so, but......

I make perfect sense, and I'm correct. If you people call Bill Clinton, of all people, racist, what the hell does that make the rest of the world? Calling Bill racist for remarks that WE ALL KNOW were not meant in a derogatory way, what the heck do you think of the average white joe on the street who may make statements that they believe to be fact about race relations in this country? How can anything change if we can't talk about perceptions? If Bill is racist then pretty much EVERYONE is under your standards. You've taken political correctness waaaayyyy too far as no one can say anything that they perceive as innocent without being called vile, vile things.

BTW, Obama DOES need Bill Clinton. He said so himself. Is Obama a liar or is he just playing politics? Either way, he wouldn't be the candidate of change you expect to be then.

The media didn't twist his words. We saw and heard him ourselves make racist, demeaning, and divisive comments during the campaign. I think Clinton has always been the typical, condescending patriarchal White Guy with African Americans. The deal was he patronized them and they worshipped him. His administration was not helpful to the needs of black Americans; to the contrary, some of the most harmful legislation to their interests came in his administration. He's a petulant, self absorbed, ego bound individual who is of absolutely no pertinence in this campaign. I voted for him twice, supported him through his sordid sleaze and scandals, but now I just want him to get quiet.

Please, take it from me an African american and the rest of us we know when someone is being racist and using racist comments. He and Hillary tried to use race in PA, Ohio, Kentucky and other areas where racist view are well known. Spme people are racist and Bill and Hill tapped into that and they knew how to do that on the sly. Black American recognize that straight up from them and that it why we overwhemly went to Obama side. Bill has been around that the black community since he started he politico background so he knew how to do it well. However, he did not know that he would ever have to go against an African American for office. He owes us a apology for all the times we stood by him and he had the adacity to play the race card and blame it on Obama and now I read here that Obama should have stopped him. He probably was in shock that he was doing that as well as I was, I don't think Obama needs them as much as they need Black america we were the ones who always had their backs and we still will but don't blame the game that failed on Obama.

When did this happen to the media?? I think the media needs to be accountable for what they tell the people! From now on when the media says that they got it from a good friend or source I will not believe it.. Has journalism become like the ENQUIRER and the Star, they to quote a reliable source.. I watched all the news shows yesterday and everyone is talking about their "good source" and making assumptions out of left field.. How about FACTS, the real news.. and not innuendos...

One bright spot among deep darkness if McCain wins will be the finl divorce of the Clintons and the DLC from the Democratic Party. While I marched against Bill's impeachment and supported Hillary's run for the Senate from NY, Bill's corruption and his latent racism during the campaign has made me realize that Bill and George are not that different - One has an extraordinary libido and the other has an extraordinary ego. Goodbye Bill, it will be nice to see the back of you. Maybe you can work some shady deals in Bolivia or Kuwait and have access to your sexual needs at the same time.
