Bush Wrongly Credits McCain For 'Working Hard' On G.I. Bill

First Posted: 07/08/08 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:35 PM ET

Bush Gi Bill

President George W, Bush wasn't exactly a friend to the efforts put forth by Senators Jim Webb (D-VA) and John Warner (R-VA) as they worked to secure bipartisan, veto-proof support for an updated U.S. G.I. Bill, which would provide our veterans with enhanced educational opportunities. But Bush is stuck with the bill now, so naturally, he went in front of the press and deemed himself pleased with its passage.

It didn't escape our attention though, that as Bush acknowledged the House and Senate members who came together to support the bill, he slipped in the name of one who labored to obstruct the bill -- Senator John McCain. Instead of being rightly excluded from the list of thanks, McCain was given the same credit as those who had steered the passage of the bill from day one. Surely, though, John McCain will correct the President, because STRAIGHT TALK, RIGHT?

[WATCH.]

BUSH: The bill is a result of close collaboration between my administration and members of both parties on Capitol Hill. I appreciate the hard work of my cabinet, especially the leaders of Defense and State and Veterans' Affairs and Office of National Drug Control Policy, as well as OMB. I want to thank House and Senate leadership and leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. I am particularly grateful to Congressmen Boehner, Hoyer, Obey and Lewis. I want to thank members who worked hard for the G.I. Bill expansion, especially Senators Webb and Warner, Graham, Byrd, and McCain. This bill shows the American people that even in an election year, Republicans and Democrats can come together to stand behind our troops and their families.

No shocker there! Let's just hope his lies and deceptions won't take our country into yet another conflict in the last days of his intolerable term as POTUS!

Bush not only gave McCain credit for sponsoring the bill but he forgot to mention 2 of the original 4 sponsors of the bill-Sen. Frank Llautenburg (D/NJ) and Sen. Chuck Hagel (Rep.). With Sen. Kyl voting against the bill that meant that AZ is the only state where both US Senators opposed it.

I know quite a few of that 23% still supporting Bushco. “I don’t care if I can afford gas, or food, or housing, or prescriptions, just don’t let those damn gays get married!”

So years ago the powers that be decided that our public schools needed to get worse, all those damn college students from the 60’s caused them all kinds of trouble. So they simply dumbed down our schools and our population.

Wine and circus for everyone!!!

We demand that McStupid come out and denounce and reject Dubya's lies. ROTFLMAO! You should have seen the audience when McStupid claimed credit. They were looking like, Oh, no he didn't! Cracks me up!

Now Webb needs to go out an do a pile of interviews pointing out that Mccain lied and is taking credit for something he had nothing to do with. (it's a nice thought but the wussy Obama people will advise him to keep quiet about it, because it might anger swing voters. Hopefully, Webb can think on his own and will do it anyway. Note to self: Don't let liberals run political campaigns. They don't have the stomach for it.

Seems this should be part of the DNC campaign commercials in the fall! Governor Dean might have released a statement discounting this lie, ... Did he?

Good on the Congress and the Vets for passage of the GI Bill! They absolutely deserve it, no matter what Bush and McCain think!

This is no mistake. They know that most people aren't paying very much attention and that they believe McCain is all for the troops so it will be an easy lie to get away with.

Actually, perhaps Bush just got confused. McCain was taking credit for the same bill last week and most people realize that he was avidly against the bill.

Sane and rational people don't act like that. I think that goes beyond dishonesty. Apparently Dick Cheney has been our president all of this time.

I still remember at Rumfeld's departure ceremony. Bush, president of the USA began to sit down after aplause for Rumsfeld. Cheney remained standing and all of the generals and politicians there followed Cheney's lead to keep applauding and not Bush's lead to move on. Bush straightened back up and followed Cheney's lead. I thiught it was amazing that nobody took that video and used it, not even Stewart. We've got a secret cabal running this country, and I don't think Obama is going to change that.

This man continues to demonstrate his utter ineptitude and disregard for the truth.. This will go down in history as the absolute worst Presidency we have ever had.
