Silicon Alley Insider:

At a meeting with about a dozen senior members of AOL's staff yesterday, Jeff Bewkes left at least one member of management with the impression that the company is for sale, a source close to the company says.

Another person who attended the same meeting says Jeff did not say specifically that the company is for sale but merely said that "everyone is talking to everyone" and that AOL might someday be sold (i.e., that nothing has really changed).

I can't imagine anyone being foolish enough to pay actual money for AOL, in this day and age. Like trying to corner the Buggy Whip market.

My guess is that they (the owners) cannot give this piece of crap away.

Good luck and best to them.

Whatever happened to all those CDs AOL used to send out? Is there a warehouse full of them somewhere?

A sale to Wal-mart would be a natural. Only morons shop at the Walton concern and only knuckle dragging cretins still use AOL, which is an ISP with training wheels attached. They deserve each other. Yee-haw!

AOL is like all other elements of Time-Warner. AOL is a less than desirable acquisition. When AOL's people speak of trying to spark a bidding war, they mean how much will Time-Warner have to pay Mid States Screen Door & Telecommunications to take AOL off Time-Warner's hands. Nobody will accept possession of AOL for less than 8 billion euros to be paid to whom ever takes possession of AOL from Time-Warner. AOL plumbs new lower nadirs in consumer service every 5 minutes. AOL has a long standing reputation of being slow, difficult to use & trying to stall AOL subscribers from dropping AOL by refusing to cancel AOL subscriptions by hoary, transparent ruses & delaying tactics which have been recorded by many & are available to be heard on a million or more sites.
Time-Warner will have to use an immense toxic waste disposal site to get rid of AOL. No toxic waste disposal site will take AOL from Time-Warner's hands for less than 300 trillion euros. Time-Warner may be forced to use a most costly toxic waste disposal site to rid itself of AOL since the world will soon demand that AOL is to be sealed into a leak proof toxic waste site by using technics beyond measures used to isolate radiation contaminated sites at Cherynobil. That will add another 900 trillion euros per year to the cost Time-Warner will have to pay to get rid of AOL.

Based on the way this company mistreated their customers, their slogan should be: "You've got jail!"
