Couric Large

Katie Couric's CBS Evening News, which has suffered through dismal ratings during her entire tenure as anchor (and for some time before that), got some much needed good press Tuesday when it was announced that it was the winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast for its August 9, 2007 broadcast.

ABC News was the big winner, taking in six awards, including one for Overall Excellence. CBS News won four awards, while NBC won just one (for writing).

Iraq coverage was also a major award winner, with Lara Logan's "Boots on the Ground" series winning the "Continuing Coverage" award and Kimberly Dozier's "The Way Home" feature winning the "Feature Reporting" award for CBS, and Bob Woodruff's "To Iraq and Back" winning the "News Documentary" award and Dan Harris' "Children of War" winning the "Hard News" award for ABC.

In a statement, CBS Evening News Executive Producer Rick Kaplan said he was very proud of both Couric and Logan:

"I'm very proud of all the women and men of CBS News who have been honored by winning so many of the Edward R. Murrow Awards. The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric winning a Murrow on what many would call an average news day just illustrates that the broadcast is a stand-out, on any given day. Katie and the team work diligently every day and it really is gratifying when your work is recognized. Lara Logan's series for the Evening News about American troops in Baghdad is just part of the great journalism Lara brings to viewers in her fearless and insightful reporting. My congratulations go out to everyone at the various CBS News broadcasts, radio and website who were recipients today."

Patching up weak links in the propaganda machine by passing out fake awards that the public will most likely buy into.

The sexism and misogyny at this web site is unrelenting. The all out attacks on Hillary Clinton and Katie Couric for months on end have been despicable. Left-leaning blogs seem to believe in equal rights and respect for every group of people other than women and those over 55. The immaturity among the people attracted by this site is beyond shocking; it borders on depravity.

Ya know, if the criticism were hatred because she's a woman, then I would totally agree with you that it's misogynistic to attack Katie Couric. But get real. She is astoundingly awful. Particularly in comparison with real reporters like Gwen Ifill on PBS and Christiane Amanpour on CNN, to name only two.

Wow. I watched 10 minutes of a CBS Evening News after Katie took over and I had to turn the channel it was so bad. She is hands down the worst newscaster ever. Ever.

Wow! After 10 minutes you came to that. Talk about giving something a chance, how generous of you. One 10 minute viewing after Katie took over. Wow!

I watched the initial CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, which was so hyped, and after the interview Katie did with John and Elizabeth Edwards, I wrote to CBS and said I'd never watch another Couric interview on 60 Minutes. Needless to say, I haven't been a fan of hers, but perhaps I have not given her the opportunity to grow as an news anchor. I think it is terrific that she has won the ERM award, and I can't wait to see how KO ridicules her (out of envy because goodnight and good luck is his delusion). After watching all the sexism directed at our first viable woman candidate, I think maybe we haven't given Katie a chance. I know I haven't because based upon the first initial broadcast debut.......I haven't gone back to see if she has improved. In all fairness, I am one of those who don't depend upon the evening news to get informed.....like many in this country. I watch the W/E news regularly because that is really the only news available on the weekend.

I stopped watching CBS News after Dan Rather left for being honest in reporting on Bu$h!! Then went to MSNBC and K. Olbermann...until he began his mad rantings against Sen. Clinton, so I went to see what CBS was doing now. I was utterly suprised by Ms. Couric, she is the best of the 3 nightly anchors by a wide margin, and I'm glad someone has given her credit finally! Go Katie, go!!

Part 2

Having seen what cable has done in reporting the political news during the primaries.....the sexism and the bias, perhaps it is time to go back to evening news for a more unbiased look at what is going on in the world....

PS.. can't wait to see KO lambast the awards cuz he didn't get one, which his inflated ego surely deserved, Now that he doesn't have HRC to kick around anymore........Katie will make a good substitute, and along with Billo who wins the in the ratings over KO.....Mr. Olbamamann will have two people to rant against in his pompous, envious way.

LOL who judges for these awards and are they related to Katie Couric, because at this point I don't think her mom will even return her calls.

Why certainly, the "Best Newscast" NO ONE WATCHES:

Long Live Olbermann, the true inheritor of the Murrow legacy!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:04 AM on 07/02/2008

He is a ERM wannabee, but Ed must be rolling over in his grave whenever he hears that "good night and good luck". It really is presumptuous of K. Olbamamann to use it. He is a passing phenom, whose head is going to explode one of these days, or maybe he will just float into the air with all that gas and blow away.

Olbermann wants to be like Edward R. Murrow? And that's a bad thing how? Shouldn't more TV journos want to be Murrow?

This is satire, right?

If it isn't, then black is white, up is down, and fat is thin. In other words,
we have officially lost our minds.

What nothing for the Daily Show? Outrageous! The awards should've gone to Amy Goodman's Democracy Now for being the most relevant and incisive.

Spot on. Amy Goodman is the modern day Edward R Murrow, hands down.
Jon Stewart deserves awards for showing how simpl it is to expose the lies and hypocrisy
of Bush and the media that enable him.

Along with Amy Goodman from Democracy Now, we should add Alex Jones of http://www.infowars.com. This man is a true patriot. If you want to get into the nuts and bolts of what's happening with this world, why it's happening and who is pulling the strings, you should check it his radio show and website daily.
