Kos Upset With Obama, Withholds Contribution

So many of you are upset that I pulled back my credit card last night, making a last minute decision to hold back on a $2,300 contribution to Obama. Let me explain further:

First of all, obviously Obama is a great candidate who is running a great 50-state race. That much cannot be denied. But he's had a rough couple of weeks.

Obama will be fine without my contribution, and he may even still get it before this thing is said and done, but it would be at a time when he has done something positive. That's called rewarding good behavior. And if that opportunity fails to arise because Obama goes on a Sister Souljah'ing rampage, then no worries. Chances are good that the DNC would get the money instead. But at this time, I simply have no desire to reward bad behavior.

Bad Behavior? This is how you try to get Obama's attention? By treating him like a dog that piddled on the carpet?

You are entitled to your opinion and it is up to you what you want to do with your money. Obama didn't take the stance you wanted and you all call him a coward! Stand your ground, you tell him!

Obama is entitled to his opinion also. And he gave it whether you like it or not! He actually stood up to groups like yours knowing (yes he knew the risks) what would happen.

In addition, there has been something bothering me about this situation. All I hear are attacks on Obama. Aren't there other Senators who will be voting next week? Are you or your group targeting other Senators as fiercely or are you under the delusion that if Obama opposes FISA then everyone else will?

OR do you want Obama to just vote no on FISA knowing that there is an excellent chance it will STILL get passed?

These are serious questions by the way.

P.S. No lectures about what FISA is please or the Constitution!

I agree with Kos. We as a progressive community have to hold Obama accountable. We aren't like the Bush moron rethugs that followed that goof off a cliff. Obama has to know that we expect him to live up to his principles and values. I'm an Obama supporter but we must let the campaign know our grievances when they let us down.

Man... it is dispiriting to see the number of people arguing for Obama on principal months ago arguinf for Obama against principal now. Just what, exactly, was your motivation for supporting Obama? For me, it was the idea of listening to the people, rising above corruption, ending the trumped up GWOT and restoring America's Constitution. All of these seem to be in jeopardy now.

POWER POLITICS IS THE PROBLEM. Niche politics is the problem. Saying anything to get elected is the problem. Having no moral allegiance to the rule of law is THE PROBLEM. He is now in his second week of defining himself and talking about his patriotism. You cannot BE a patriot if you don't support the constitution fully! Allowing Telecoms and the Bush administration to get away with illegal wire-taps (which were instituted BEFORE 9/11, by the way) lost my support. I feel like a chump; I contributed to the guy and defended him vigorously since January. So disappointing....
