Dem Rep. Sends Out Mailer Featuring Soviet Soldier

TPM's Election Central points out an embarrassing campaign slip-up:

The Congressional office of Florida Democrat Tim Mahoney, a freshman who faces a potentially tough re-election fight this fall, was forced to put out a statement apologizing for a mailer they sent to the district two months ago in which the Congressman touted his support for veterans.

The problem: The mailer featured a stock picture of an elderly veteran who turned out to be a Soviet soldier!

Mahoney, a "Blue Dog Democrat" may be best known for choosing to not back Barack Obama, saying he'd rather skip the convention to spend more time in his district. ''I don't owe the party anything," he told the Miami Herald. "If anybody owes anybody anything, it's [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi who owes a debt to me.''

I hope all the Blue Dog Democrats (they're more Republican than Democrat) are soundly defeated. If given the choice between an authentic Republican or a Blue Dog wannabe, I'll go with the real thing. Let them run as Republicans, they're certainly not Democrats.

Tim Mahoney is my Congressma­n....unfor­tunately. And I don't think there is another Democrat who can go up against him. I don't remember even seeing this mailer, to be honest, butthat isn't the problem I have with Rep. Mahoney~I wish he would go and represent our disrict at the Democratic Convention. I suppose if he didn't have such a close race going with Republican Gayle Harrell, the current Florida State House rep, I suspect he would be going. he apparently didn't support Hillary Clinton either, besides Barack Obama!!!!

In this case I would vote for the repug, bluedog dems are a disgusting bunch. If the repug wins mahoney is finished and it would be much easier to replace him with a real dem in 2 years. I'll never understand why the f**k it is so hard to dislodge a sorry incumbent!!!
