The casino craps player is a social animal, a thrill seeker who wants not just to win but to win with a crowd. Unlike cards or a roulette wheel, well-thrown dice reward most everyone on the rail, yielding a collective yawp that drowns out the slots. It is a game for showmen, Hollywood stars and basketball legends with girls on their arms. It is also a favorite pastime of the presumptive Republican nominee for President, John McCain.

The backroom poker player, on the other hand, is more cautious and self-absorbed. Card games may be social, but they are played in solitude. No need for drama. The quiet card counter is king, and only a novice banks on luck. In this game, a good bluff trumps blind faith, and the studied observer beats the showman. So it is fitting that the presumptive Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, raked in so many pots in his late-night games with political friends.

His SSI disability check!! He gambles big and his wife spends $750,000 each month shopping. Wow, just a couple of average Americans.

Shameful. Maybe McCain will win enough to buy some of Bush's debt from China. Any help will lessen the impact on the next 5 generations.

Keep the cameras rolling! A worthwhile piece of footage before the fall elections, for sure. Let's see how addicted he is to this - any reasonable person could avoid it all completely for these few months.

When bargaining with our many enemies, I'd rather it was a poker player then a crap shooter.
(Bluffing rather than shooting off your mouth.)

Interesting contrast in games here. Poker, a more intellectual game, is won or lost on understanding the chances of your opponent holding a better hand vs. the possible gains in the pot. Craps is mechanical; hoping you roll combinations of dice that occur at lower percentages than what the house gets.

So maybe this story should have included the Cindy Stepford's love of spending so that the money issue is on the table! Mac's rich very rich wealthy wife charged over $750000 was it on onecard? So he can afford lots of craps and table games. Obama probably put the money he won on education for his girls or himself. Different degree of avaiablity to money with Mac in the top range and Obama middle class top. Mac must have a little addiction problem there....

And Barry is just full of CRAP. He has no clue of the odds on 5&9 or 4&10.

Sometimes it pays to play those. Ever see Doyle Brunson play Hold 'Em? Or Gus Hansen?

Another silly story to distract the American people. I say let hime gamble all he wants until Cindy's fortune disappears. That would take away some of the campaign perks.

I just love how everyone on here is quick to jump on McCain for participating in a legal game that he enjoys, with his own money. And they completely ignore that this story is clearly biased for one candidate. They also ignore the fact that Obama chose to play poker until sometimes 2 am instead of heading home, participating in a bad habit (smoking) and that he enjoyed off-color humor. Can you imagine what would happen if it was written that McCain likes to play cards with a small group of white politicians who smoke, drink, and tell off-colored jokes?

And even better is how everyone on here is now splitting hairs when it comes to gambling on which game is "better" and somehow because Obama enjoys poker more than table games makes him a better candidate? Please, gambling is gambling! And the stakes make no difference if you are using your own money and are just having some fun. The only reason why his aides recommended he not gamble is because sheeple like you would have an issue with it and make a big deal out of nothing.

No conservative can call a liberal a sheeple. Liberals are not sheeples. The only sheeples I know are republicans who follow their party right over a cliff.

Well... I'm not a "conservative", but I think Sandie has a point. So the guy likes to roll the dice a little. Personally, I think if you're going to gamble, you should just walk into your bathroom, toss your cash down the toilet and pull the handle. Result will be the same, but you won't rack up a big hotel bill on top of it. Nevertheless, if the guy enjoys, what the hey...

well, this also goes to the type of character each candidate has. mccain's primary interest in craps seems to fit right in with an impatient, flighty sort that would just have to put his hands on a diplomat from another country during discussions.
Obama's preference for poker, and interest in the game over the amount of money, shows a thoughtfulness and reasoning that mccain apparently doesn't have.

That McWheeze has a gambling problem shouldn't come as a surprise. He's been a reckless risk taker his whole life - he ditched 3 obscenely expensive jets in the navy, for example. Now McSleaze wants to gamble away our country's future by borrowing trillions of dollars to fight 'more wars, my friends.' McCrapshoot should be playing bingo in a retirement home.
