From Media Matters:

On the July 2 edition of MSNBC's Verdict, during the nightly "Beat the Press" segment, which "look[s] back at media hypocrisy, agendas, and the amusing perils of live TV," host Dan Abrams asserted that Fox News "really outdid themselves this morning" -- a reference to the July 2 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, which, as Media Matters for America documented, featured photos of New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered. Specifically, the journalists' teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and Reddicliffe's hairline receded. Fox News gave no indication that the photos had been altered at the time...

...The controversy was not mentioned on the July 3 edition of Fox & Friends, and as of this posting, Fox News had yet to comment on, or apologize for, the doctored photos.

Watch MSNBC's Dan Abrams discuss the story:

so what's the big deal? They've been making up the news for years, now they're just making up the pictures to go with it.

Referencing my post below...you may be "you know who"

"You shoud get that looked at" -- I say.

Fox is NOT news.

It's infotainment.

Well, and it is obviously biased, I have heard you must uphold their rightwing agenda to even work in "news."

The FCC should take away their calling it news, when it certainly is not. (Of course under that guy Martin at FCC, that will never happen.)

essentially agree to all points here -
minor observations - subjective for sure, but I think I speak for the majority ;-)
- the {enter} tainment value is lost on all but...you know who.
- we've had a chance to view Fox in house memos -- and I guess their hiring guidelines are
right up their with Monica Goodling's just to name one.
- Oh, and Martin? Google "tool" - his name's right there.

THERE, not their, sheesh!
Oh and Martin? Still a tool.

This is actually outrageous behaviour by Fox. Someone should be fired.

Outrageous how, exaclty? Their morning show-like all morning entertainment shows like it-make heavy with the jokes put up a an obviously doctored photo that ridiculed the two NYT's guys and then announced it was photshopped-apparently for viewers too dumb to realize that a photo of a dog with a human head had been doctored. To pretend that Fox and Friends is the same as straight news and that this is a major breach of journalistic ethics is what is outrageous.

You accidently stuck "and Friends" in there; thought you might want to know.

Oh, yeah, this is one of the most ridiculous contrived outrages directed at Fox..ever. How sad is Huffpo that they put this 'story' as their top headline? I love that they focus on the obviously and exagerated photoshopping of the NYT's writers faces, but don't show that the altered faces were very obviously photoshopped onto another photo-with one of the men's heads in place of the head of a dog. Hmm, darkening the eyes is unacceptable but putting that doctored head on a dog is perfectly fine? Huffpo didn't show that photo, see, because then their dopey readers would understand that it was an obvious JOKE. Hard to feign outrage over journalistic ethics when it's an obvious, over the top in your face jokey joke.

So you turn to Fox for humor and jokes? Whew, I thought you'd say you watch it for news. Thank goodness you admit that Fox is not real news. Now I can laugh along with you.

I read this once, "Fox News is to NEWS as is Big Time Wrestling to Sports." It works for those with limited intellectual capacity, say a Dixie Cup.

Dan Abrams is the 'media'. His Beat the Press segment is painfully painfully lame. His hard hitting criticism usually involoves such earth shattering events as the lights going out while an anchor is on-air or a doggy misbehaving during a segment. Hard hitting stuff. Yet, he does occasionally get an insincere self-righteous bug up his butt and it usually, snore, involves Fox or Cnn, never his own precious network...keep in mind it was MSNBC that actully interrupted a newscast with a producer ominously coming on-air with the following earth shattering statement..'We have breaking Kevin Federline news, Contessa'. I'm not kidding.

Danny didn't have a word of criticism about that or the fact that not one, but two, of MSNBC's anchors had to issue apologies on air(and one suspended)for grotesque things they said during the primaries. Dan also didn't have a word of criticism for MSNBC's decision to have one of their opinion commentators pulling main anchoring duties of their primary coverage. Not a peep. Oh, Danny was quick to bash anyone who dared suggest MSNBC was heavily biased in their political coverage but was oddly silent when Mr. NBC himself, Tom Brokaw said the same thing.

If one of the people you are talking about is David Shuster, you can get bent on that. Shuster said pimping in the way it used today in popular vernacular. He actually used it correctly for modern day slang and in no way meant his comment in a manner that suggested anything more. Prudish, oversensitive, and unrelenting feminism coupled with H-illary and her famous sexism claims and media bias for B-Rock, threated to pull out of a debate and MSNBC like true media Wh*res, caved in because they were desperate for the ratings of a debate.

And Dan Abrams show admittedly is weak, but he doesn't keep his teammates off the beat the press portion of the show. They have been on there. And Dan defends mostly his show. He never really stuck up for anything else going on on MSNBC. He defends what goes down on his show. And he did fairly go after B-Rock and C-linton the same. But naturally some people thought there was bias because B-Rock didn't make as many atrocious gaffes as C-linton.

You have some facts and some anger issues to work out with MSNBC.

Yet another example of how pathetic the public debate has become in the U.S.A. Jaw dropping actually. It's not hard to reconcile this level of discourse in a country where 53% of the population professes to believing in creation.

you mean we were not created but here by random chance.

you know one atheist had to give up his atheism because when he was receiving oral stimulation from his wife instead of saying "oh god oh god" he had to say "random chance random chance" and that did not work for him or his wife. :-)

so you think you are here by random chance and the universe is not intelligent now that is a leap of faith.

please dont tell my darwinism is fact that is like the christians saying the bible is truth.

both sides are showing their extreme ignorance. :-)

what is it about we humans that we cannot say maybe.

Ignorance is to form opinions while ignoring all evidence to the contrary. Sorry, but decades of scientific evidence supports evolution. You only have to watch a couple of generations of any species to see evolution in action.

Fox is starting to remind me of V For Vendetta. The news anchor who blinks too much when she is lying, and their ring leader the loud mouthed poisoned tongue of reality who attacks V as though he were slime. Just like Bill O'Reilly.

It's such trash that it's all laughable.

I actually hope that F keeps doing stuff like this and the "terrorist fist bump" thing and other really, really stupid reporting...

The more it happens, the more people will see that it's just a huge pile of garbage

What really needs to happen is a boycott of the major advertisers.

Agreed. We need to write to the advertisers. Fox appears to be using school yard style tactics. It's really mind boggling how childish their reporting has become. I also hope they keep making jerks of themselves. At least the more sensible viewers will get it and stop watching. Beyond that, the rest of their viewers are too far gone to understand anyway.

I live in UK - Fox is one of the few (I think the only other is CNN Europe) US news channels we get on Sky (Murdoch, I suppose). It would be nice to see others.
