Media Outlets Slam Fox For Doctored NY Times Photos

On the July 2 edition of MSNBC's Verdict, during the nightly "Beat the Press" segment, which "look[s] back at media hypocrisy, agendas, and the amusing perils of live TV," host Dan Abrams asserted that Fox News "really outdid themselves this morning" -- a reference to the July 2 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, which, as Media Matters for America documented, featured photos of New York Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and editor Steven Reddicliffe that appeared to have been digitally altered. Specifically, the journalists' teeth had been yellowed, their facial features exaggerated, and Reddicliffe's hairline receded. Fox News gave no indication that the photos had been altered at the time...

...The controversy was not mentioned on the July 3 edition of Fox & Friends, and as of this posting, Fox News had yet to comment on, or apologize for, the doctored photos.

CBS didn't fake the memos. The memos were handed to CBS by unknown sources (some suspect Rove and associates). CBS apologized and fired Dan Rather. This is not the same thing.

CBS didn't fake the memo, they reported the memos as fact not realizing they were fraudulent, and while Rather lost his job, nobody could ever explain what had happened to Bush for the year he was missing from national guard service.

Roger Ailes can be expected to scream that the doctored pix were an editorial comment by FAUX NOISE & protected by the provisions of the 1st amendment. In the event the NYT &/or its employees can make a case that FAUX defamed them by showing the doctored photos, Mr Murdoch will settle out of court. Ailes may slap the employees who hatched this clumsy trick across the wrists with a wet noodle if Mr Murdoch has to pay off the NYT &/or its employees. 3 lashes on each wrist ought to be enough. FAUX NOISE can be expected to make the mother of all insincere apologies for showing the doctored pix if Mr Murdoch has to pay off the NYT &/or its employees to keep out of court.

I watched this with my husband with some horror but more WTF? How can any news organization do this and still claim to be a legitimate news organization?
Let's face it, the truth is that Fox is not now nor has ever been a real news network. They are propaganda pure and simple. They are dishonest, liars, and smut peddlars. They should not be allowed on the air with the word NEWS anywhere on our tv screens.
It's way past time for someone to call them out and pull the plug. If we had any kind of ethical standards in the media, they would be yanked off the air immediately. Anyone who watches Foxs (ummmm I can't even bring myself to write the word news after Fox) but anyone who watches that network is at least 20 IQ points dumber because of it. They don't inform.
