From The Washington Post:

The nation's top military officer said yesterday that more U.S. troops are needed in Afghanistan to tamp down an increasingly violent insurgency, but that the Pentagon does not have sufficient forces to send because they are committed to the war in Iraq.

I wonder what gave this away?

you forgot the virginia futures of the gop (the so called "macaca allen brigade")

is it obvious that the war in Iraq has become so political that king bush does not want to take any troops out until after the election because Iraq would then fall back into chaos and that would of course not look good for the GOP war party... troops are being kept there simply to help the republican candidate get elected, which by the way will not happen, despite the fact that we need these troops over in Afghanistan... we are in serious trouble when military moves become this partisan...

oh yeah and why haven't we caught OSB yet? seven years later... what are we doing??

Oh course there aren't enough troops. So many killed or injured or burnout. Plus recruitment is down and there is no way those coming out of college are entering like they used to or would want to throw away decent futures by being killed or injured. It could very well be safer on the streets of some US cities then take the chance of being shipped to Iraq for poor pay and treatment if you are poor. Honestly the risk/reward isn't worth it when it comes to joining the US military. It was the one thin that stopped me upon getting out of college. The little pay verse the risk and time I'd have to take wasn't worth it and was nowhere near being proper.

Remember this though, we got 54,000 MORE killed during VietNam

Remember this though, MORE Americans murdered in the inner-cities of America then have died in Iraq.

So, you would rather them die in a foreign country?

Little comfort to the families of the 4,000 dead boys pushing up daisies at Arlington.

Two wrongs make a right in your world and the number of people killed in Vietnam or on America streets justifies the deaths of America troops. How sad and sick that someone thinks that way.

When I was in the service my buddies lives were precious and important, nor did I make decisions that automatically sacrificed others and justified it with, it is only two dead bodies and 3 maimed people, wow that is less than what drunk drivers do nightly.

That is the most ridiculously stupid argument I have every heard. It's apples and asteroids. Come back with a better - non-neo-con - point to make. My God you people on the far right are idiots. Absolute freakin' idiots.

"Well, as long as we don't waste another 50,000 lives and break the record from Vietnam, then it's OK to throw our troops and resources into the civil war in Iraq and to protect U.S. oil interests." That's your argument Steamboat. Still like it? Go ut another couple of flag pins on your lapel and you'll feel better soon.

I replied to you before, wasn't printed (Censored). I'll try again.

>"So many killed or injured or burnout"<

NeoStar9, where were you when I needed you? When your great liberal hero, LBJ, sent me to VietNam.

Fact: 54,000 MORE killed in VietNam than in Iraq.

Fact: MORE Americans murdered in inner-cities of America during same period as in Iraq.

Sorry but no politician, past or present, is a hero of mine. Where was I? Not even born. I"m talking about now not the past. Just because more died in the past doesn't mean what is happening now is acceptable simply by comparison. Nice try though.

Good going, Bush! Brilliant move! This “cakewalk” of a war based on a lie in Iraq just keeps giving dividends, doesn’t it? Now if you could only start another war in Iran based on another lie, things would just be perfect. Get hot!

Oh oh!! Watch for another "early retirement". Speaking the truth is frowned upon in this administration.

Bush is, as Hitler was at the end of his reign, moving non-existent brigades on a map.

They will as soon as Obama is elected.

He plans to increase the size of the military.

He will entice dumb kids to join the military and become canon fodder for the the promise of fool's gold.

Well since the surge is working in Iraq clearly we can start draw down troops so why arent we doing that. We have no qualms talking troops from Afghanistan and sending them to Iraq so why can't the reverse be done. Because Afghanistan have no oil right?

You know whats even laughable and this is coming from someone who is bordering on insanity at this point wasnt it just a few weeks ago that Bush didnt rule out an attack on Iran. If we dont have enough troops to finish two wars how are we going to have enough to start a 3rd. Let me guess they would just pull the troops from Afghanistan right?

IDIOTS!!!!!

Afghanistan may not have oil, but it is the worlds greates producer of a far more valuable commodity, opium poppies. The crop keeps getting bigger and bigger each year in spite of more American tax dollars being spent to erradicate it.

Not surprise when you have the likes of Bush in charge the drug trade both legal and illegal is bound to be booming business, I bet liquor sales is up to. I know they are days when I wake up and turn on the news and wish someone would give a prozac.

Wait just a minute, yes we do.

We have a "well regulated militia" who are exercising their right to "bear arms".

And many of these folks are feverent supporters of President Pan.

Call up the "First Pennsylvania Volunteers" (the so-called "Rick Santorum Brigade")

The Mississippi Irregulars (the so-called "Lott Legion")

Onward to Tehran!

So let's send them to Afghanistan and Iraq for 100 years. Because this time we need to make sure the mission will be accomplished

The mission has already been accomplished.

The neat thing about President Pan's foreign policy is that there as many victories and accomplishments as you can imagine. Who said faith-based policies had to involve religion?

By now (by my reckoning) we've had more victories in Iraq than the Wehrmacht had on the Ostfront between 1944 and the final victory in 1945. And we're not finished yet!
