The Hill:

A Philadelphia news radio station has rejected a Democratic ad that features an impersonator of President Bush thanking GOP congressional candidates for supporting the "Big Oil" agenda.

Philadelphia KYW-AM Vice President and General Manager David Yadgaroff said his station decided not to run the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) ad because it was worried its listeners would be misled.

"As an all-news station, we were concerned that our listeners would have been misled by usage of an impersonator in the creative delivery," Yadgaroff said in an e-mail sent to The Hill.

Well, can't argue with him. He must know the intelligence level of his listeners, and if they get confused easily he may just be doing what he thinks best for their fragile mental states.

When the G0P does it, it is called "Swift-boating" When the DCC does it, it is called truth.

"The station didn't think their listeners were savvy enough to understand it [the Bush impersonator] was a parody," DCCC communications director Jennifer Crider said.

There is a good case for this since they have elected and re-elected Jean Schmidt. Not savvy enough to elect a true representative, and not savvy enough to realize they are sending their kids into a meat grinder in the Middle East- and for what? Oil money for a few. Nope, not savvy at all.

If we continue to allow Clear Channel to control OUR airwaves, they are not going to get savvy, either.

KYW-AM is a Philadelphia radio station. How did it's listeners elect Jean Schmidt to the 2nd Congressional District of OHIO?

What does 'Clear Channel' have to do with the policies of a CBS radio station?

You speak of 'savvy' when you can't even get your facts straight. Are you impaired by a mind-altering substance or just naturally ignorant?

KYW has a big problem if their listeners can't tell the difference between an ad an a news item.

I've listened to KWY practically all my life. It may be over if they are censoring information that's intended for the public.

Just shows ya how the patrician elite is cared for by Corporate Media, particularly Bush.

The station is worried about listeners being mislead.

Mislead????

That is precious.

Where have they been for the past seven and a half years.

That radio station is operating on public airwaves that we gave to them to use. There are rules about how they can use those airwaves and I'm fairly sure that there are rules saying they can't discriminate. That is exactly what they are doing. I would say that the FCC should be going after them, but that's a waste of time because that agency has become so politicized it's currently useless.

It's more likely they refused to air the ad to gain favor with the FCC. This is nuts. Another case of media arrogance.

PBS hosts no political right wing talk shows, just left wing ranters, and yet is paid for by tax dollars; all sounds illegal to me.

What "PBS" station/ranters are you referring to?

Why listen? Seems AM is full of "your" types and should keep ya happy enough . . .

The fairness doctrine upside down !!!!!!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:41 AM on 07/04/2008

The fairness doctrine, or should I say:
"The liberal radio shows can not succeed unless an illegal doctrine is imposed by the left"

There is no fairness in the fairness doctrine, just pandering for to likes of the failure Al Franken.

The President and CEO of the radio station explained his decision:

"Our listeners have been subjected to 28 years of right wing propaganda and are therefore so conditioned to believing anything we put on the airwaves that they would be unable to recognize nuance and irony in a paid political advertisement," he said in a written statement.

Later, asked by reporters what he really meant, he replied: "Our listeners are stupid."

What is the link where you got this information from? Or are you like MSNBC and NY Times and making it up? Doesn't sound like the truth.

I guess Philadelphia KYW-AM Vice President and General Manager David Yadgaroff doesn't know about FoxNews.

OK you research wonks (you know who you are).

How about delving into KYW's past to review what campaign commercials they've run in the past that might be construed as being just a wee bit misleading.

And while we're at it, how about checking out the number of times they gave the Swift Boat ads "free media" exposure as part of their news coverage.

And how many times they reran the Rev. Wright tape loop.

I'm not saying there's anything to be dug up; just that it would represent good journalism - one that asks the logical follow up question - "Since you won't allow this spot, which ones have you allowed?"

I think the station's records for 2004 should be reviewed to determined if they refuse to run the "Swift Boat' ad.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:50 AM on 07/04/2008

You beat me to it. That's exactly the point. If they refused to run the SwiftBoat ads in 2004 then we can't pick on them too much, but if they did ...

If they ran the swiftboat ads, they would probably argue that there's a distinction between running an ad using a Bush impersonator, which might mislead their listeners, and running an ad using real veterans giving their version of their experience with Kerry. It's a specious argument, but it's all they'd have. It doesn't say much about the station's opinion of the intelligence of their listeners.

And how is this action not a clear example of an outright denial or infringement upon our right to "Free Speech"? The Republicans have long argued that to deny lobbyists and special interest groups the right to make large political contributions is an infringement on "free speech". Well, here we have an example where actual words and images are being withheld from public view on the basis of what amounts to pure political bias.

This is wrong and must be stopped. Quickly.
