On his radio show Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh commented on the news of his astronomical new contract estimated at $400 million. Limbaugh told his audience, "I'm not retiring until every American agrees with me." The deal pays Limbaugh to keep dishing his views through 2016.

The New York Times
has more on how Limbaugh's windfall stacks up against other conservative hosts.

Mr. Limbaugh is not the only radio star who is busy pumping his franchise. Sean Hannity, the country's No. 2 host according to Talkers Magazine, is in contract talks with his current syndication company, ABC Radio, as well as Premiere, for a potential three-way deal, according to two sources close to the negotiations. They requested anonymity because the deal had not been signed.

Glenn Beck, another popular host, signed a new contract with Premiere last year that will pay him $10 million a year through 2012.

Mr. Hannity and Mr. Beck each appear on radio while hosting television shows, writing books and staging nationwide tours. Other media personalities, including Oprah Winfrey and Mr. Seacrest, also have radio engagements that feed into their cross-platform brands. But Mr. Limbaugh sticks to his self-proclaimed "golden E.I.B. microphone" -- E.I.B., for excellence in broadcasting -- and his associated Web site.

"Lib radio like NPR requires taxpayers to subsidize it. Pathetic."
In my opinion, a perfectly free market is no different than anarchy. Humanity and liberty and wisdom and healthcare are not commodities to be traded back and forth, but rather virtues of civilization. Civilization is always on a learning curve; it's not perfect, but the best government, or system of cooperation, is that government which can continually transform itself into a better vehicle for human happiness and cooperation. Liberty can't exist in a society of humans without good government; liberty relies upon good laws to protect it from destruction by tyrants. Yet a good regime of law relies upon patriots to maintain it and improve it.

All I can say is, this just make me ill. NO ONE is worth that much money. NO ONE.

Typical that he's going to be rolling in dough when the economy stinks and the average Joe has trouble making ends meet. And we know he'll be rolling in dough, because I seriously doubt he'll be donating to charity. That's just too liberal, doncha know. He'll probably be spending it all on his cigars, Oxycontin, and hookers.

And he's still going to have the balls to sit there and accuse Barack Obama of being an elitist.

"I seriously doubt he'll be donating to charity. That's just too liberal,"

I don't know if LImbaugh's supports any charities, however it has been documented that Conservatives are substantially more generous than Liberals.

Philanthropy Expert: Conservatives Are More Generous
By Frank Brieaddy
Religion News Service

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse University professor Arthur C. Brooks is about to become the darling of the religious right in America -- and it's making him nervous.

The child of academics, raised in a liberal household and educated in the liberal arts, Brooks has written a book that concludes religious conservatives donate far more money than secular liberals to all sorts of charitable activities, irrespective of income.

In the book, he cites extensive data analysis to demonstrate that values advocated by conservatives -- from church attendance and two-parent families to the Protestant work ethic and a distaste for government-funded social services -- make conservatives more generous than liberals.

You've got to be careful what you're measuring. Giving to your own church so that it can proselytize is not "charity" or "generous"; it's no different than giving to a political party.

At first I didn't believe this, because I have always been very active in volunteerism since I was a kid. I come from a Catholic community, but I have non religious friends who volunteer with me.

However, upon googling it, guynemer seems to be completely correct. I looked at many different studies done by conservatives, moderates, and liberals, and they all show two things: conservatives give more time and money to charitable causes (and ALL kinds of charities, not just religious institutions). Also religious people give much more of their time and money to charitable auses (again, NOT just religious causes) than secular people.

Guynemer, thank you for your post. Liberals often say that conservatives are greedy and selfish, but that is just not the case when it comes to giving and vcolunteering. I am a bleeding heart who volunteers with habitat for humanity and is a Big Sister. I attribute this to my parents, who raised me to care about those less fortunate. But apparently there are a LOT of so called "bleeding heart" liberals who like to talk compassion but don't actually act upon it. They should be especially ashamed because liberals as a group tend to earn a higher income than conservatives, yet STILL give less money to charitable causes.

Get involved in your community, put your money where your mouth is. It's not enough to just "care" about those in need unless you actually take the time to help them!!

NPR is not "Lib" radio, you fool. National Public Radio plays different music like opera, jazz and Americana that is not found on commercial stations. NPR is not right wing garbage like Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity and other hate mongers. NPR is funded by grants, donations and government funding. It is public radio, not hate radio

What's funy about this comment is that those on the very far left think of NPR as conservaive radio! There are websites with petitions against "conservative" NPR agendas, here's just one, but there are many more:

http://www.socialconscience.com/firenancy/

Far leftists and far rightists tend to dellude themselves into thinking they are moderates. Therefor when they hear someone with a moderate view, like on NPR, they hear someone who isn't espousing their exact views, and so they think "You don't agree with me, so you must be liberal" or "You don't agree with me, you must be conservative" when in fact they are hearing MODERATE views but are so anxious to not see themselves as an extemists they assume anyone with ANY different view is in fact the extremist, not them! For instance, I think religious institutions SHOULD remain tax free, even if they are politically active. I am against affirmative action, and I am AGAINST abortion. SO my far left friends call me a conservative. I however agree with higher taxes and believe gay marriage should be legal and that prayer should be kept out of school, so my far right friends call me a liberal.

NPR and I have a lot in common.

What I love about Rush is that his whole schtick is being the Vince McMahon of politics. Here's what he said when the Dow Jones avg was up last year: "It crossed 14,000 today, a humongously huge story that is not being reported at all because it doesn't fit the action line or the template of the Drive-By Media, that the economy is bad." He went onto say, "The Bush economic plan worked, and it worked brilliantly."

Hey, Rush, the Dow is now down to 11, 288. What were you saying about the Bush economic plan?

Is it any surprise why Rush hyperventilates whenever any politician says we should roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy? Warren Buffett is quite willing to pay higher tax rates, but Rush cries "How dare you try to make me eke out a living on a mere $1 million a month after taxes." Rush supports the Iraq war, but he absolutely refuses to pay a dime more in taxes to offset the $12 billion a month we're paying over there. Very patriotic of you, Rush.

A few months ago, Rush predicted that if McCain becomes the GOP nominee, it will be the death of the Republican party. Hmm, he just may be onto something there...

The late noble Republican actor, Jimmy Stewart volunteered and saw distinguished service as a pilot in WW2. I am hard pressed to see Rush Limbaugh doing the same and standing behind his beliefs. Whatever happened to Republicans like Jimmy Stewart?

DesertLight,
You have insinuated in multiple posts that liberals are those who mooch off of the government. I have been waiting to get home from work so I could pull out Paul Krugman's "The Great Unraveling" so I could throw this out at you:

As a group, red states pay considerably less in taxes than the federal government spends within their borders, whereas blue states pay considerably more. Montana, for example, receives $1.75 in federal spending for every dollar they spend in taxes. In New Jersey, this number is reversed. They pay about $1.75 for every $1 they receive. Government spending on welfare and subsidies is significantly higher in the red south than in blue New England. Overall, blue America subsidizes red America to the tune of $90 BILLION each year.

Feel free to cross check this all on google, state by state. Red states get more welfare and pay less in taxes. Blue states get less welfare and pay more into the government. Yet people like you and Rush continue the lie that it is the left that is mooching off the government, stealing money from the right. In fact, blue America is carrying red america on its back.

That was a very interesting comment. Being a conservative, I have never drawn a welfare or unemployment check, so maybe you can answer this for me... do welfare and unemployment checks come from the US Treasury Department like income tax refunds? What are these subsidies you mentioned? Can I get some too?

I've lived in some of those noble blue states. They tax the crap out of their citizens. It used to make me mad when I lived there but now that I know that you democrats want to be taxed even more so that you can send it to me here in Tennessee, I'm just delighted.

Keep up the good work and tell everybody, thanks.

That is the key difference, because you're right. I don't mind that I am getting taxed higher and that it is being used for less fortunate areas of the nation. I have lived in the north and the south, and I know the state of southern infrastructure. I know that our nation as a whole will be better if schools, roads, and communities are made better EVERYWHERE. I WANT to keep getting taxed at the rate I am, I want funds to be redistributed amongst my community and then any excess to be spent in Tennessee, or anywhere else that needs it.

I am fine with my tax dollars improving a school in Arkansas or wherever. And the subsidies I mentioned are mostly farming subsidies and for new business owners who don't have the capital to start a business on their own. So if you are a farmer or business owner, yes, you can get them!

I was not posting that info because I MIND that more affluent blue states support less affluent red states. The only reason I put that up is because DesertLight had put in several posts here that liberals are nothing but moochers who take money from red states.

BTW here is a link for the tax foundation where they list how much every state pays into the federal government and how much they get in federal spending.

The author of this post is skewing the data, as if its the Democrats that are paying the majority of federal taxes.

Oh...and if "Red America" is so red, why cant we drill there?

The whole concept of Red State vs Blue State is very divisive. We all know that 40% vote Red and 40% vote blue, regardless of where they live.
