Thomas Beatie "Pregnant Man" Gives Birth (PHOTOS) (VIDEO)

ABC News is reporting that Thomas Beatie, also known as "The Pregnant Man", gave birth today to a healthy baby girl. The pregnant man baby name has not yet been released.

Thomas Beatie, who is being touted as the world's first pregnant man, was born a woman. While he had his breasts removed and is legally a man, his vagina is still intact.

Initial reports said that Thomas Beatie had planned on a cesarean birth, but according to ABC News, the pregnant man has not yet revealed how he delivered the baby.

UPDATE: TMZ is reporting that pregnant man Thomas Beatie gave birth via C-section, while ABC News is claims that "that earlier reports that Beatie had planned a caesarean section are false" and the birth was "natural."

2nd UPDATE: People.com is reporting that, "despite previously published reports, Thomas Beatie says the baby was not delivered via C-section."

According to TMZ:

We're hearing the whole thing was totally cloak and dagger. He checked into the hospital in Bend, Ore. under a fake name after going into labor early Monday morning and his room was sealed off, away from other expectant moms.

The birth of his daughter will presumably be a crucial aspect of Thomas Beatie's memoir, titled "LOVE MAKES A FAMILY: A Memoir of Hardship, Healing and an Extraordinary Pregnancy."

You can't say that this was a "man" who gave birth. This person has female parts. It was a normal female delivery. Women have babies everyday, there is nothing extraordinary about this one. Now if a man, with man parts, got pregnant and delivered naturally - now that would be a story.

To each their own. As long as the child is born to parents who love her, it should not be anyone else's business. That's one of the HUGE problems we have in America...intolerance.

I agree that it shouldn't be anyone's business, but they put their story out there. They wanted the publicity and really didn't consider this child that they are having. They asked for the scrutiny by publicizing their story. I feel bad for the child because like you mentioned, not every one is tolerant and why subject the child to this. They should have just done this privately for the child's sake.

Love also includes the conscious well being of the child. Sorry, but I'm siding with everyone who has brought up the consideration of the child, and how the parents are merely seeking attention.

Also, while she stopped taking male hormones before getting pregnant, we've all seen the pics of her with big stomach... and facial hair. Not only does this mean hormones are a temporary thing, but they'll cure male pattern baldness too. (Methinks she started popping the pills again some time after being inseminated.)

I for one wish the family luck. The child will be just fine if she doesn't encounter too many prejudiced people like some of these posters.

I remember just a while back when people said the same things about gay parents: "It's not natural!!!"
"The poor child will be tormented in school!" -- and for some reason, people didn't realize that they were contributing to that possibility themselves.

Thomas Beatie is a man, and HE had a baby. Get used to it.

really?? and how exactly do you "cure" someone who is transgendered?? electric shock therapy?? being gay was considered a mental illness for a long time as well... im not a tranny, and it doesn't make sense to me, but i've known people who have felt their whole lives that they were born into the wrong body. how do you "fix" something like that?? to me its the same thing as being gay. its just one of many variations on human sexuality, and no one has the right to try to force another person to be something that they aren't in their heart. i'm a lesbian. i can pretend to love a man and get married and bear his children, but i wouldn't be true to myself. there would always be something missing, and on some level i wouldn't be content and complete. lying to yourself only hurts you. the only person who has to live your life is you. as long as you aren't hurting anyone else, be who you are and allow yourself to be happy that way.

How ignorant are you that you don't know this woman is a transgendered human being who became a man to fit her true self identity, then fell in love with a woman who can no longer give birth and out of her love for that partner endured the nine monthes of pregnancy so that they could have a family?????

This is a biological woman who identifies as transgendered. Although born female, he believes he was a man trapped in the body of a woman. He had his breasts removed and took hormones to develop more masculine traits including an enlarged clitoris. His birth certificate was changed to identify him as a male.
Did you know that all humans start out in utero as female and only develop into males with the presence of male hormones? Some drugs (now banned) were found to cause children to be born with female genitalia who in fact were biological males. Sexual identity is a very complex issue which we still do not fully understand.
Open your mind. You may learn something.
