NICE, France — They'll always have Nice.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's soon-to-be-born twins will always be considered honorary citizens of Nice, regardless of whether they opt to obtain French citizenship, the mayor of Nice said Friday.

The Hollywood super couple have chosen the relatively low-key Rivieria city for the birth of their twins, expected within weeks. Jolie has been hospitalized since Sunday in the seaside Lenval hospital, which has a magnificent view of the Mediterranean below. Pitt has been making regular visits, often with some of their children in tow.

"That is for the citizens of Nice a very great honor and a great satisfaction," mayor Christian Estrosi said. "We are very happy for this choice of Mrs. Angelina Jolie and Mr. Brad Pitt and I want to say to them that I wish a lot of joy to them and the babies, and great success for all of their lives."

The mayor affectionately called the twins "two little Nicois."

Being born in France is not enough to confer citizenship. But according to the French Foreign Ministry website, the twins will have the option of obtaining French citizenship when they turn 18 as long as France has been their primary residence for at least 5 years after age 11.

They are allowed to keep both French and American nationalities, so they will never have to choose.

"All their lives they will be Nicois and all their life they will be able to come to Nice and we will receive them with great honor," Estrosi said.

He was waiting eagerly to extend his congratulations on behalf of all the city's residents.

Jolie's doctor said Wednesday that the babies would arrive "within the coming weeks."

Pitt and their four children _ Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; Shiloh, 2 _ have taken up residence in the town of Correns, 60 miles from Nice, in advance of the new arrivals.

I'll post this question here, since it relates to more than one post. A few of you are inferring ~ or stating flat out ~ that you are aware of philanthropic efforts actor Brad Pitt has made over the years (pre Angelina Jolie & her UN work) & that you know more than others do, including myself. That's fine. It isn't a contest. However since nearly everyone knows that high profile celebrities are often asked to contribute $$ to various organizations ... & that Brad Pitt has been a leading Hollywood actor for a long time now (much longer than his current partner Angelina Jolie), I'd like to ask fans of his, this question: Pre his recent involvement with Jolie & support for her endeavors, when did Pitt begin giving altruistically to charitable, humanitarian organizations & if this wasn't prior to his much-talked-about relationship with Jolie ... why did he wait so long?

Thanks, in advance, for honest replies.

The Golden Ones will be among us soon and the earth will be at peace.

The USA should change its immigration policy to be something like this. What we have now says to the world, COME TO AMERCA TO HAVE YOUR BABY because it will automatically be entitled to American citizenship whether or not its parents are citizens.

Couldn't agree more!

As far as the "news" article go, who cares? Their children could be citizens of Mars for all I care.

When to they get their Cartes Bleu?

They'll get a free education at the Sorbonne and free health care for life...right?

That way they won't have to duke it out with the adoptees for a share of the estate when Brad and Angie cark it, in order to not to be left destitute.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:42 PM on 07/05/2008

Don't know about the Cartes Bleus, but college education and health care are not free in France. Where did you get that idea, wad?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:26 AM on 07/06/2008

Um... maybe not free, but in comparison to the fleecing we get in the USA, it's pretty darned close. The citizenry may well pay very high taxes, but it helps stabilize the populace.

Angie is on her way to creating a modern day Noah's ark. She has two children from Asia, two born in Africa and two to be born in Europe. She and Brad are from North America. So, she just has to birth/buy two in South America and two in Australia. She will then have a pair from each continent. I guess the rumor floating around last year that Brangie was planning to buy a $10 million yacht fits right in with the scenario.

Posterella ~ I think it would be both interesting & educational if the starlet Angelina Jolie and her Hollywood PR agents allowed the media/public to interview her, while at the Nice hospital ... and to take (current) photos ~ not just publish the old ones with this news?

Ms. Jolie probably looks quite different now ~ & isn't carrying herself as easily/confidently ~ then she was in the recent photos in this very expensive light green maternity dress, with her hair perfectly colored (light brown) & her eyes always darkly lined to make them appear bigger or more exotic.

I have a feeling then, that the public (inc. her adoring fans) would likely see that she really looks a lot like every other expectant mom in this world ... eg., big, uncomforable, most likely very bloated from late stages of pregnancy & not entirely well-groomed). In Africa, I believe she gave an interview at that point ... why not in France?

Woah, bitter much? Maybe she just doesn't want cameras up her vagina in the weeks before she's about to blow.

Angelina did an interview in Africa as you note "shedances" and was roundly blasted for it as a "Media ******"." Do you think Angelina owes the pubic something? It's your problem that you obsess about AJ thinking she's better than others. There's no evidence that she does.

Your utter lack of compassion is evident when you expect a woman who probably can't go to the bathroom alone to genuflect to your need to see her uncomfortable and uncoiffed. You forgot to mention that when she was filmed wearing the gorgeous green dress -- she was WORKING! When the razzi have caught her out and about during this pregnancy she has looked like what she is -- a young Mother, expecting another.

As usual since 2006 Angelina has not given an interview or photo op in any event other than during her contractual obligation to promote films she is in or a humanitarian effort such as her appearance at the Clinton Global Initiative.

correction:

Make that $200.00 "per room, per day."

The $500,000.00 hospital suite costs have been debunked. Truth is that the hospital is a smaller one used specifically for women-children, and is acutally considered a working class priced medicial facility, and the true cost for the Jolie-Pitt suite of 4 rms is $200 (franc) each per day. The hospital is benefitting financially from it, and since they couple have always gifted wherever their present children first came to be (hospital - orphanage), I'm sure this one will recieve one also.

there is no such thing that a hospital room for 200 Dollars a day in France !! And one dollar is not worth one Franc ! And the Franc is dead since 2001 !!! Do better your homework my friend !!

When things sound too good to be true ... they usually are. LOL!

And really, little about this couple jives. They want to be left alone, yet they willingly step in front of the cameras and show off their family & expectant bell(ies) ... and they also willingly give interviews & make comments that arose controversy (eg., Jolie's Iraqi & McCain views, etc.).

Pitt, especially, seems like a blank card (so to speak).

I mean, he fashions himself as another "Robert Redford" (even dresses like Redford did when he was a young actor); yet he rarely speaks publicly about his own political views. He is nearly always deliberately silent, you know.

I don't think Pitt's anywhere near the high level of intelligence & conscienceness that Redford is ... and has always been throughout his life!

I wonder, too, if Brad Pitt married Jennifer Aniston, because she was able to express herself easily & publicly in a way he wasn't ... and then later on, became involved with ,Angelina Jolie who is also easily articulate (esp. in her role as UN Ambassador)? Unless someone's directing him or his partner is telling him what to say or how to think ... I don't think there's much upstairs with actor Brad Pitt.

the mayor of Nice is a complete ass.... who will do anything for cheap publicity for his city !! last winter while a minister he used Dassault airplanes for a private function to the Carribean and charged the Treasury !!! With a guy like this, Angelina and Brad are sure to have free lunches in Nice every time they will raise one finger !! The French taxpayer will pay... once more !!

How is this Angelina and Brad's problem. If Nice has a bozo as mayor and they decided to have their babies in a Nice hospital they should be held responsible for the Mayor's antics? Why?
