Bloomberg :

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she's ``proud'' of the U.S. decision to wage the Iraq war and insisted that the world is not more dangerous than it was when George W. Bush took office.

``We're now beginning to see that perhaps it's not so popular to be a suicide bomber. We're beginning to see that perhaps people are questioning whether Osama Bin Laden ought to really be the face of Islam,'' Rice, 53, said in an interview to be broadcast this weekend on Bloomberg Television's ``Conversations with Judy Woodruff.''

The only thing this woman hasn't done is try and keep the Beach Boys from playing on the National Mall.

The version of the FISA bill that Obama will vote for does NOT include immunity from CRIMINAL prosecution (only civil lawsuits).

telecom immunity and sarcasm aside, i do have a problem with the rest of the fisa bill . . . i know that obama says he'll keep a sharp eye on it when he's prez, but what if the repugs steal the election AGAIN? i do not want mcbush to have those powers, both because i am tired of having my phone tapped (not too keen on the tools in the van across from my building snapping my pic, either), and because the widespread use of phone taps is only making us less safe, given the limited capacity of machinery and personnel to slog through so much data . . . phone taps should be used judiciously or they are simply not effective

Oh now I get it. If you pummel and lay waste to Iraq no matter how many are killed Al Queda and other terriorist will get scared and maybe not try this 9-11 thing again. Problem is, how have the terriorists been effected, dont they live in other countries other than Iraq. Why Iraq Condi?

Condi's attorney should have been sitting next to her whispering in her ear, "No comment". But we have her statement and it should be used as evidence against her as a willing participant in an illegal war should she and her co-conspirators be held accountable and tried in The Hague for their crimes.

camcat, you're missing the whole point of the ludicrousness of condi's statement . . . she's setting up an insanity defense!

That's OK, mostlyharmless...a crazy person rots in jail at the same rate as a sane person. In fact,I hope she never dies, like one of those Twilight Zones where being alive and in jail forever is worse than death.
Here's to EXCELLENT health in jail,Rice!!!!

Here's some pride for you Condi:

AP - The U.S. military said airstrikes by its attack helicopters hit two vehicles carrying insurgents in eastern Afghanistan. The province's governor said 22 civilians, including a woman and a child, were killed.

Dear Sec. Rice,

I am proud that the citizenry of America appears to be waking up to the incredible incompetence and intentional deception that you and your colleagues have perpetrated on this country. I only wish that we could trade your clear conscience for all the PTSD nightmares our veterans are suffering.

Sincerely,
WIlburrr

`They, too, believe that it's possible to deal with this diplomatically. But we better have really robust diplomacy in order to deal with this threat because the Iranians are making progress,'' she said.

"Robust diplomacy"=Bush-speak for "Prepare to invade."

The Bush administration school of diplomacy requires that our president (after seven and half years I can almost call him that without cringing) has a feeling "in his gut" and then tailors a policy consistent with said gut regardless of the facts. Has there ever been a president whose gut-responses were less trustworthy? You'd think he'd of figured it out by now. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where George notices that his natural inclinations were almost always wrong, so he decides to start making decisions that are the opposite of what he would normally do. It worked out beautifully for him. If W. and Condi would have only taken this approach, we'd be in good shape.

None of her "impressive credentials and IQ" ever obstructed what was always so plain to see for anyone willing to look clearly at her and her ideology: She is nothing but another neocon lackey obsessed with winning their PNAC crusade. To them it matters not how many people die, nor that truth has no place inside their tent. She will eventually burn in hell along with the rest of their comrades of hate and destruction, a fate too kind and not commensurate with the pain inflicted upon the innocents of the world and their continuous desecration of our nation's ideals. America cannot let slip by the coming opportunity to punish her and this band of traitors beginning January 21st, 2008. Detention at Gitmo will make a good beginning to fulfilling the adage, "what goes around comes around".

The truly insane part is the neocons appear to believe PNAC is GOING AS PLANNED!

To them the casualties and costs are "light," perhaps because they and their families shoulder NONE of the burden.

(part 2 of 2)

how can she say she is proud of aiding and abetting an illegal war? how can she look at the dead and wounded, and say with a straight face to their loved ones that she is proud that they are suffering so?

just when i think the utterances of this administration cannot possibly be more stupid, they still manage to surprise me.

when lives are lost, hope dies with them.

You just answered your own question,in a way...I don;t think any of her loved ones are suffering, and she doesn't look at the dead and wounded. She probably sees dead US soldiers as "expendable".She likely views dead Iraqis as "people who died for freedom".Anyone who witnessed (and green-lighted) Israel's attack on Lebanon and called it "the birth pangs of a new Middle East"...

(part 1 of 2)

there is a thread that tells today of yet another human sacrifice in this "war."

a young, wounded marine who became part of the wounded warrior battalion at camp pendleton, helping other wounded navy and marine veterans to keep their spirits up and not give up hope that they could still make something of their lives.

he was found dead in an isolated portion of the base on june 23. tomorrow, he will finally be laid to rest in his hometown of charlottesville, virginia. in the end, his death was ruled a probably suicide. another victim of this war who isn't counted in the total number of "official" casualties.

how ms. rice can say she is proud of being one of the people who caused this young marine's death, and countless thousands more just like him on both sides, i cannot even begin to understand.

success or failure is irrelevant. even one death was too high a price to pay in war that violates every international treaty to which we are a signatory, has done nothing but served to impoverish the populace of two nations, while putting money beyond comprehension into the pockets of those who will never trouble their "beautiful minds" over the outrageous misery they have caused with their amorality and unbridled avarice.

Condi was just following the orders of congress and the president. It was congress that felt the threat was so great that they authorized the use of war. It was congress who voted down the Levin Amendment, thus authorizing the president to just ignore the United Nations. It was the support of the democrats that gave the war bipartisan legitimacy. And it was congress and the former president that rammed through the Iraq liberation Act in the late 1990s, paving the way for the war. Sure Condi was incompetent, but only congress and the president had the power to start or stop a war.

There are several in the Congress I would like to get rid of. Say... the Speaker of the House, the Senate Leader, Joe Lieberman and some Republicans too.

toocoldout,

Condi was in on constructing the lies that Bush and his string pullers ultimately present to Congress and the UN. Lies the purpose of which was to garner approval to invade Iraq.

Congress was stupid to go along with the lies. But, then, many members of Congress, like many other Americans, were too fearful after 9-11 to think clearly.

You could say she too was too fearful to think clearly after 9-11. Many Democrats in congress were using the same rhetoric as the president, and giving the president the authority to use force implied an imminent threat which itself was a lie.

And I believe that the GOP had the majority and they marched lock step behind the warmongerers in the Bush Administration who were dead set on going after Iraq from day one. Condi never took any orders from Congress. Condi works for the crime family.
