US News and World Report printed a short piece about GOP fears that the President's relevance is shrinking beyond already dismal levels.

Allies Worry About President's Schedule

Some of President Bush's allies tell the Political Bulletin they are embarrassed and angry that the White House seems to be wasting Bush's time on frivolous events when much of the country is suffering through economic hard times. "Look at the schedule for Monday," says an outside Bush adviser. "A highlight of his day was witnessing a tee ball game. ... He is being reduced to child's play." The adviser says Bush also signed a supplemental appropriations bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on Monday, but he adds that it didn't get much coverage and that the tee ball game set the wrong tone. There is growing concern among Bush allies that the Democrats will effectively portray the President and GOP candidate John McCain as out of touch. Some GOP insiders now predict that the Republicans will lose at least five seats in the Senate and 15 to 20 in the House, and it could get worse if gasoline prices continue to soar and the public remains in a disgruntled mood.

Jeez, why do I feel like George Bush? I'll tell you why. I went to click on "post a comment" and instead I got "10 rules to a flat stomach"........Anyway, I figures, Spitit tells me there's a reason for that...so I am going to be the only one here to say something nice about the President. He has a flat stomach.

Tee ball is great for GWB it keeps him out of the office and from making stupid decisions like invading other countries. If he gets real good at tee ball maybe we can move him over to the Taiwanese Little League and get him out of here for good!

T-BALL sets the wrong tone? I think it's exquisitely fitting.

REDUCED to child's play? well, i recall his not handling child's WORK very well...remember how he handled himself while he was reading MY PET GOAT?? Go back and look at the video of those minutes ticking by after he had been told (according to Andy Card) that "the nation was under attack." (Mean's nothing, tho'; Card's a liar like the rest of 'em) Look at the facial expression of the Commander in Chief when our country entered upon its greatest crisis since the Cuban Missile crisis--maybe the greatest ever. Reduced to child's play? He doesnt' even handle himself appropriately in a third-grade reading circle. Where do they get the idea, in their remotest fantasies, that he's capable of oh I give up.

Yes, they should be happy for the good coverage and happy he is not trying to address the serious issues as he'd just dig himself deeper.

He's been doing this for seven years, and they start worrying NOW? Is America the greatest country or what?

For the past 7 years the GOP has basically given their AWOL President something shiny to play with while they discussed how best to burn our Constitution.
Now, all of a sudden, they want him to become some political wizard overnight?
Sorry GOP children it doesn't work that way.
Your AWOL President is a born-to-privilege, blue-blood, cocaine and alcohol addicted, simpleton who couldn't spell "Checks and Balances" is you spotted him the "Checks And Bal."
Now suck it up republicans.
You put the Decider in the DECIDER in the White House, now deal with the consequences of that catastrophic mistake!

Huff Post is 1000 times better than Free Republic. They cry and whine if you use the term "neocon" and if you use it too often your posting privilege gets taken away. Free Republic is not actually free.

Odd, isn't it that they'd shy away from a designation that they themselves created then forced on the nation in the early 90s? Neo-con, that's what they wanted to be known as back then. I guess they have disgraced themselves so much they now can't stand the term. What other political movement has had to shy away from itself??

Dubya is not being "reduced" to child's play; that is about all he can handle. The man is a buffoon. An idiot. A sot. A simpleton. An overgrown frat boy. How many times does this need to be spelled out? Anyone with an IQ above that of lawn furniture can see that this man isn't fit to shine shoes, let alone govern a nation. He is a national disgrace, and mysteriously, it has taken the majority of Americans eight frightening, horrible years to come to this conclusion. The rest of us, while holding our heads in our hands, simply say, "Well, DUH."

"it has taken the majority of Americans eight frightening, horrible years to come to this conclusion"

I think most Americans are too lazy to do any research on a candidate. That's why they vote party line. To me thats as stupid as it gets. We also turn our heads away when we know we've made a mistake instead of facing it head on, just like Bush Co. We let these SOBs steal two elections and sat back and allowed this madness to continue for over 7 years. Then start getting upset after there isn't enough time to repair the damage. My representative has her head so far up Bush's butt she can't breath own her own. Nothing you can say or do will make this woman change her opinion of the current situation. She's voted with Bush 98% of the time. Of course I come from the same state that kept Jessie Helms in the senate for more than 30 years. If you had driven through the rural areas of North Carolina 20 years ago and start discussing Helms you would find most people liked him due to his racist (KKK) beginnings and still believed he had them(which is probably true). Same for Strom Thurman in South Carolina. We saw the same thing in West Virginia in the most recent Democratic primary. These people haven't moved away from the civil war yet. They fly their flag proud and talk about what good people they are.

What good CHRISTIAN people they are. Don't forget that. Every time I see an "Unborn babies are people, too" bumper sticker I want to insert "Iraqi" to make "Unborn Iraqi babies are people, too." Some Christians!

Bush's motto "when the going gets tough the tough go to a t-ball game". Bush is a modern day Nero who fiddled when Rome was burning, Bush goes to a t-ball game while the nation burns. Bush doesn't have enough talent to play an instrument or play ball so he watches.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:59 PM on 07/06/2008

And like Nero, his own flunkies set the city on fire then blamed an unpopular, fanatical religious group - the Christians. It worked for Nero for the short-term. It took the Roman Empire another 400+ years to disintegrate from its own corruption. I'm afraid we won't have that kind of leeway.

Oh for Lord’s sake, those unnamed Bush allies ought to be delighted.

Nearly every affair of state, foreign and domestic, the man has come in contact with has been bungled on a spectrum that runs from embarrassingly dishonest (“No Child Left Behind”) to grossly reckless (record budget surpluses turned to record budget deficits in record time) to appallingly disgusting (using the much trumpeted “faith-based initiative” to funnel taxpayers’ money to political allies) to horrifyingly tragic (failing, after September 11th, to go after and destroy the group that attacked this country).

Those allies ought to be grateful because, as best I can figure, it’s exceedingly difficult for an adult human being with Secret Service protection to royally f*ck up (sorry about the split infinitive) a tee ball game.

Indeed were it not for the negative consequences, ranging from sadly unnecessary to catastrophic, that this long list of failures has imposed on millions of Americans, it would almost be comic. The “boy genius” and his successors in the White House have finally ascertained what Daddy Bush’s friends with money figured out years ago after pumping millions into one company after another that “W” promptly ran into the ground: only give him something (in the earlier instance, a professional baseball team) that any individual who knows what year it is would find nigh impossible to screw up.

absolutely. What--I ask ANYBODY--WHAT--in that spoiled brat's resume even remotely suggests that he could/should be POTUS? He can't even handle a microphone. Go on--look at his resume. Now SHOW ME where it points to anything other than what we've seen: disaster after disaster?? Go on, SHOW ME. I'm waiting.

And the GOP has the balls to talk about Obama lacking practical experience? At least he hasn't run a country into the ground as they have. Make that two countries: US and Iraq.

Bush is a child who never grew up. He is a child and so are his aides who all lie and cheat to get what they want. He lied to Americans to get what he wanted-a war.Yet with his lies he is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans lives and the death of tens of thousands of Iraq: men, women, and children. He has weaken the Constitution-which he swore to uphold -to get what he wants: power to decide. He has decided what rights you are entitled to keep, what laws he will or will not obey, and whether you will be protected by the Constitution. While doing all this he has totally mismanaged the economy. He has mismanaged everything from helping Americans during Katrina to having a polite conversation the Philippine president. He is the laughing stock the world over and the blunt of all office jokes. He is such an incompetent and childish President that it makes it now almost impossible for a Republican let alone a white male to ever become President again.

I hope it IS impossible for a repu to become President, EVER again! This nation has suffered horribly every time the repus have control. Lincoln would probably be apalled at what has become of the party he had such great hopes for. The republican party should be outlawed, disbanded, and forbidden to ever raise its ugly, corrupt head again. Not saying there is no corruption in the Democratic Party, but it has leached its way throughout the entire repu party like a huge, invasive, and fast-moving cancer. Lincoln wanted to end the civil war and his party is single-handedly responsible for pushing this once-great nation toward a second one in the extremely near future unless Obama can make enough of a turn-around to renew hope in the American people.
Obama has his work cut out for him and I hope there remains enough intelligence in this country for the average person to realize that undoing the treachery of the repus for the past 40 years is not going to come overnight, nor yet in the first two years. If he gathers the ideas of the best and the brightest and develops plans that show how things can improve and what will need doing, it will be a gigantic step toward our rebuilding ourselves. It will take work and patience from everyone. Put bush behind us, he is a fool who belongs in prison and maybe he will end up there. We can only hope.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:42 PM on 07/06/2008

First, we need to hope that the American people have the intelligence to vote for Obama and not use racism as an excuse to chain us to our certain failure as a nation. Don't forget West Virginia. "I won't vote fopr him; he's a Muslim." "I think we need an American president Born in THIS country." (Shows how well they know "this country"s" Constitution) "I can't vote for a member of another race; they have caused us so much trouble, you know." Makes a good argument for the return of intelligence testing for voters.

I seriously doubt he is even capable of childs play without messing it completely up. After the past 8 years, Repubs would be well advised to stop complaining and just let things be. What reality are they living in currently????
