US News and World Report printed a short piece about GOP fears that the President's relevance is shrinking beyond already dismal levels.

Allies Worry About President's Schedule

Some of President Bush's allies tell the Political Bulletin they are embarrassed and angry that the White House seems to be wasting Bush's time on frivolous events when much of the country is suffering through economic hard times. "Look at the schedule for Monday," says an outside Bush adviser. "A highlight of his day was witnessing a tee ball game. ... He is being reduced to child's play." The adviser says Bush also signed a supplemental appropriations bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on Monday, but he adds that it didn't get much coverage and that the tee ball game set the wrong tone. There is growing concern among Bush allies that the Democrats will effectively portray the President and GOP candidate John McCain as out of touch. Some GOP insiders now predict that the Republicans will lose at least five seats in the Senate and 15 to 20 in the House, and it could get worse if gasoline prices continue to soar and the public remains in a disgruntled mood.

As Gas Prices Soar, Elderly Face Cuts in Aid

By John Leland
The New York Times
July 5, 2008

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/05/us/05elderly.html?hp

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich.

Early last month, Jeanne Fair, 62, got her first hot
meals delivered to her home in this lake town in the
sparsely populated southwestern part of the state. Then
after two deliveries the meals stopped because gas
prices had made the delivery too expensive.

'They called and said I was outside of the delivery
area,' said Mrs. Fair, who is homebound and has not
been able to use her left arm since a stroke in 1997.

Faced with soaring gasoline prices, agencies around the
country that provide services to the elderly say they
are having to cut back on programs like Meals on
Wheels, transportation assistance and home care,
especially in rural areas that depend on volunteers who
provide their own gas. In a recent survey by the
National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, more
than half said they had already cut back on programs
because of gas costs, and 90 percent said they expected
to make cuts in the 2009 fiscal year.

'I've never seen the increase in need at this level,'
said Robert McFalls, chief executive of the Area Agency
on Aging in Palm Beach, Fla., whose office has a
waiting list of 1,500 people.

Ask any fat-cat Republican what they are prepared to do to help the sick and aging. Watch them try to think up something that won't cost them anything. You know, like "A Thousand Points Of Light", or something equally meaningless.

Gee... it almost would make you sad for the G.O.P., until you remember that our current situation, whether on the economic, environmental, civil liberties, Iraq, the mis-aimed and mis-managed "War on Terror," complete with scores of war-profiteering scandals, world leadership, food, product and drug safety, etc etc etc were all completely foreseeable outcomes of their agenda.

Then you hope that change can happen if we work to realize it.

Reducing Bushie to childs play is what he is best at. He should be reader in chief for "My Pet Goat".

What a crock. Bush gets FISA, with telecom immunity for criminality. Bush gets the full occupation budget, including the war crimes. Bush gets Obama to support and vote for retroactive immunizaiton of telecoms for their criminal activity and outrageous infringements on civil liberties and the war crimes budget, getting Obama to vote to fund war crimes and gets Obama to stress what he's said all along -- that he is not promising to get out of Iraq.

And Bush does it with a 29% approval rating, because the Dems are collaborators in the war on the Constitution, the occupation and the war crimes.

How's that child's play?

He isn't anything he didn't spell out right up front. It's called thinking it through, looking at all input and outcomes, then making the right decision.

i'm tired of politicians who make 'democratic' or 'republican' choices - how about they work together to come up with solutions instead? i'm tired of all the knee jerk attitudes that everything the other guys say is absoutely 100% wrong and our guys is absolutely 100% right.

I'm hopeful that the country is ready for an intelligent and thoughtful president.

I agree but Obama is a MUST and McCain is a MUST NOT.

Obama always said he would get out of Iraq as carefully as we were careless getting in.... that does not equate to an immediate withdrawal. Having a president who thinks will be a change for the better ....

Hard to imagine him doing any worse. Including worse than McCain.

The only careful way out is immediate, safe withdrawal of all US troops and contractors. We got to Baghdad in 6 weejs and can have everyone out safely within 6 weeks. Everyone wants us out but partisan Republicans and stupid, colonialst-minded, progressive Democrats, who bought the original lie that we had to invade Iraq and have bought the most recent lie, that a calamity of biblical proportions will occur if we leave "preciptiously". That's a crock dreamed up by the same lying pundits, lobbyists and representatives of war profiteers and the oil cartel who lied us into Iraq and gave progressive dems the fig leaf they want to justify supporting their barbaric Savior, Obama, even though he has never committed to leaving in Iraq in the first place.

The so-called progressive Dems just give him a pass for consciously voting for war crimes (as everyone knew the US has been committing war crimes ever since Abu Gharif and GITMO), FISA (with telecom immunity) and on and on. They start their conscience-suppressing whine against those votes by saying "but of course we have to vote for him". To a cynical, lying two-bit politician like him, that means "I support you 100% because you're definitely voting for me", and he's right.

Every life and limb lost is a life and limb wasted, and is actually lost against the interests of the United States.

You got it right, both parties are corporate parties brought and paid for by the CORPORATE WELFARE KINGS that get the proceeds from the government deficit loans with the principle and interest paid back by the American taxpayers. Sweet deal whenever you get loan proceeds and others pay back the interest and principle.

Bush is criminal -- he should be in prison -- not enjoying himself at a t-ball game corrupting our children.

Typical GOP story. They are upset at--what? Or at whom? Mad at the White House for Bush's dumbo duties? Who sets his schedule? Bush. So they're angry because Bush is doing Bush things, but they won't say they're angry AT Bush. This is what has passed for communication for the past 30 years in Washington. So, who is really out of touch? The GOP and Bush. This baby stuff is all he can handle. Every time he goes on a trip and tries his clumsy hand at foreign relations, his hosts find out he's an idiot and he doesn't accomplish anything. Even when he went to visit his Saudi friends, they laughed at him. T-ball is perfectly appropriate for Bush, and the GOP can just swallow it.

Wish that the GOP and all its kool-aid drinkers would cede from the Union, invade and conquer their own little kingdom off the continent, install Rush as their first "Idiot in Chief" and leave the rest of us the hell alone to do something useful with our country.

So, Bush has been reduced to wearing a red nose and working children's birthday parties as a clown act. He would probably mess that up to.

I understand it was tried, but the event ended early when he tried to get the FBI to arrest the children who didn't laugh.

GWBUSH is stupid and immature. His handlers are keeping him
away from doing many more of his
"actions".

the White House handlers sent Bush AWAY FROM THE USA.
Now they're having him doing his usual LAZY ASSED visits to
kids' centers and doing everything TO AVOID WORK.
To avoid fixing all the things Bush has MESSED UP.

Bush is Rove's publicity creation. Never again should USA fall for
such crap.

My next door neighbors are still riding around with a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on their car. I can't even stand to LOOK at them.

I saw my first McCain bumper sticker yesterday. And I live in a blue state. There are stupid people everywhere.

Bush is just being shown in his true light. Hanging out with kids, he looks quite comfortable. Perhaps it's because he never mentally graduated from that level....

Not sure if he just don't care or he just don't know what to do???? I am of the belief that he is a total space cadet. Let's us compare Obama, Bush, and McCain's July 4th's. Bush, plays tee ball and runs around Thomas Jefferson's home and visits injuried solider and gives out Purple Heart's. Bush had to do the last 2 things--just standard stuff. He created this war. This is big lost for him. McCain goes home to his palace in Arizona. His house is so large. This is a big lose. Neither McCain nor Bush did anything to address the high food cost and energy cost for this Holiday. However, Obama spent the 4th in Butte, MT and gave a big picnic for people. He shared and did a little something to help the people. None did a heck of alot, but Obama did the most. He gets a win.

I've always thought he just doesn't care. I don't think he has ever given a damn about anything. He has always struck me as trust fund frat boy. You know the type. They do what they damn well please because they know they have the family fortune to bail them out. He was put in to power because the Cheney, Condi Rice, and et cetera have free reign to mold national policy to their hearts desire. All the people who think Bush is stupid are wrong. It's just that he doesn't care.

"Reduced to child's play"????

This man was already in full-reduction mode before stealing office. What the hell does he care if people in his own country are starving? He's "got his". Now, you go get yours (try and do it without his trust fund, lol!)
