US News and World Report printed a short piece about GOP fears that the President's relevance is shrinking beyond already dismal levels.

Allies Worry About President's Schedule

Some of President Bush's allies tell the Political Bulletin they are embarrassed and angry that the White House seems to be wasting Bush's time on frivolous events when much of the country is suffering through economic hard times. "Look at the schedule for Monday," says an outside Bush adviser. "A highlight of his day was witnessing a tee ball game. ... He is being reduced to child's play." The adviser says Bush also signed a supplemental appropriations bill for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on Monday, but he adds that it didn't get much coverage and that the tee ball game set the wrong tone. There is growing concern among Bush allies that the Democrats will effectively portray the President and GOP candidate John McCain as out of touch. Some GOP insiders now predict that the Republicans will lose at least five seats in the Senate and 15 to 20 in the House, and it could get worse if gasoline prices continue to soar and the public remains in a disgruntled mood.

Bush isn't enjoying his child's play as much these days as he keeps losing his marbles.

You see what happens when he gives a speech anywhere but a military acad. This is quite possibly the lamest duck we've seen in our lifetime. His legacy won't be viewed kindly...

I think the article's title, "Bush is Being "Reduced to Child's Play", could be misleading. "Some" may infer a reference to the movie "Child's Play"; about a sadistic serial killer whose soul gets transferred into the body of a child's doll -- good old "Chuckie"!

Then again -- Bush is an ignorant, arrogant, socio-pathic, frat boy with the intellectual depth and speaking ability of a child. [I guess I could see a slight comparison]. Never mind!

Actually Bush has been wildly successful pushing the republican pro-bussiness, pro-war agenda

Is anyone surprised that this administration couldn't care less? More important, is anyone of liberal persuasion licking their chops over the coming landslide for Democrats? Most people of every political persuasion evidently see the same thing. The only significance of this article and many like it would be that it promotes change.
We haven't persuaded moderates and conservatives that liberals have anything to offer except, not change but a switch. This may be a landslide for spineless conservative Democrats and milquetoast Republicans who together will still have a majority. Obama has indicated nothing except that he evidently wants power and the only change he promises is to abandon any and all of what we fondly assumed were strongly held principles.
For real change, I intend to support a few liberal Democrats and a few Republicans who still believe in the Constitution and will ignore the empty and pretentious man we have nominated. I respectfully disagree with anyone who assumes that McCain would be worse.

If the dangerous moron had been on the sidelines the last seven years we'd all be better off.

I would like to say that poor Bush is so pained by all the bad he created, that he is in a state of DENIAL.. . . .However, I honestly believe the guy is SO DAMN DUMB, that he doesn't even have a clue
whats going on around him.
Can we impeach for stupidity???

Bush should be cellmates with "Bubba" Cheney, ideally in Guantanamo.

But the GOPpers who really support Bush are delighted with the progress he has made in office. Look at what Bushco has accomplished:

Record profits for oil companies
Bountiful opportunities for private contractors/thugs in Iraq, Afghanistan and very potentially, Iran
A strangulation of regulations on corporate America here at home
A desperate work force who will take what crumbs it is given and ask for nothing extra

We rage on about the cost of driving or heating our heavily mortgaged homes, but the Bushies love these times because it means outrageous profit for them. We rage about the decline of the middle class, but the Bushies are too short sighted to care about that either. They've got theirs and that is all that matters to their beautiful minds.

Theirs is a world turned upside down from our reality and their priorities are a complete opposite of those of regular people.

Yeah, if the rabble get uppity the Bushies and their ilk can just go hang in their fortified compounds guarded by Blackwater thugs.

This is right on the mark. First of all, Bush isn't the top guy in the government. He's a figurehead. I'm guessing that he's actually 3rd or 4th banana. Second, the Cheney administration has accomplished what it set out to do.

They’re not just being short sighted about destroying the middle class. It’s been a goal since Reagan. If you’re looking to bring back the gilded age of the robber barons, you definitely don’t want a strong, educated middle class with a bunch of pesky demands who will ask a lot of nettlesome questions about what you’re up to.

These guys believe the Federal government should be very, very weak. Grover Norquist said their goal was to shrink the government “…down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.” So, they dismantle as much as they can, and put incompetent sycophants in charge of whatever they can’t dismantle. Then, they can point to the inevitable failures and say “see – we told you – private enterprise is the better answer.”

In any other period of American history during wartime, even the slightest hint of war profiteering was cause for huge outcry of TREASON. Somehow, these crooks have been able to change the nomenclature from “profiteering” to “private contracting.” And once again, the apathetic, ill-informed, easily misled American electorate was fooled.

Oh no! Democrats may succeed in portraying Bush and his administration precisely as (slightly less inept and corrupt versions of what) they were!

No fear of that, egal. If history is any judge, by election day Democrats will have re-imagined themselves as junior Republicans once again and such harsh words will never cross their lips.

jas,

You are so right!! It has already started. Obama is looking more like Republican lite every day. Very few true Democrats have survived the Reagan shift to the right. Most Democrats are really Republicans, cleverly disguised as Dems.
