Last night, Greta van Susteren bared her fangs and took a giant chunk out of Anderson Cooper's neck, calling him out for hypocrisy, accusing him of exploiting Katrina, and labeling him a "marketing experiment." Happy 4th!

Van Susteren reacted comments from AC 360 executive producer David Doss on TVNewser, taking to her blog at 11:43 p.m. to "keep them honest," riffing on Cooper's frequent AC360 tagline. Doss had dismissed van Susteren's "On The Record" as "not a news program...It's missing-person-of-the-day."

Respnded van Susteren, seeing red:

"What I don't get is that Anderson Cooper recently blogged and bragged that he did not take shots at the competition (meaning me and meaning ON THE RECORD.) Do take note: I did not fire first. I have been doing my own job and not insulting them or trying to make less of them...Coooper lets his surrogate attempt to make less of our show....my executive producer did not and would not do this and I would not permit it."

Van Susteren proceeded to "KEEP THEM HONEST" by taking AC 360 to task (noting that she requested the information because she doesn't watch the show), saying "do not be fooled...CNN at 10pm does crime. I have a giant list of crimes CNN has covered at 10pm. Here is the difference - we do it better." (She did give them the edge on the polygamy story though: "it is because they have so much more experience with the polygamy story than any other network." Zing!)

But the real zingers went straight to Cooper's credibility as a newsman. Essentially, her withering criticism came down to three points:

  • People in the biz laugh at Anderson as a "marketing experiment" — incuding people at CNN
  • He's the only anchor to have exploited Katrina for financial gain
  • He gets his information off a teleprompter

Wow. Those are fighting words. Here's what she actually said:

On Anderson as "marketing experiment":

To paraphrase MS/NBC's Keith Olbermann, yes many in the news industry behind the scenes - even my friends at CNN - laugh about the fact that CNN's 10pm show has been a "marketing experiment." It has been rumored that in one year they spent about 27 million dollars in advertising of Anderson Cooper in their experiment. No network has ever spent that kind of money just to market one person. By the way, the President of CNN told me that Anderson Cooper has a staff of nearly 60. We beat them with our staff...of about 12...They have put Anderson Cooper on plastic bags like they are selling breakfast cereal.

On "exploiting" Hurricane Katrina:

You would think with all their marketing that Anderson Cooper was the only one who covered Katrina....we were there, all producers were there, all my colleagues were there...but guess what? so was every one else in every news outlet in the nation!! The fact is that all the other news organizations had the dignity not to try and make a marketing experiment out of a giant catastrophe! Only one anchor wrote a book and thus collected money from Katrina. The rest of us saw the suffering and simply reported it rather than exploit it.

On experience:

Unlike those on the side lines, I am the real thing - I spent 15 years in the criminal courts trying criminal cases and don't get my information from a teleprompter.

Her tirade could be summed up in her reaction to the official CNN "Anderson Cooper, You're Not My Boo!" t-shirts: "Yikes...not exactly Walter Cronkite."

You know it's bad when Fox is siding with Olbermann...there is a lot of damning stuff in here. Should be interesting to see how CNN responds.

TIME TO KEEP CNN HONEST!!

The actual story behind all this is very simple: Greta gets all hot and bothered by Anderson. She has made a couple of passes at him, but he has turned them down (you know why ;-). So she has gotten all mad and bitter at him.

I forget who said it but I love the quote; "Anderson Cooper is the Paris Hilton of cable news."

It was actually a FNC ad, and it was as unfounded as most of that channel's output. Hilton and Cooper have famous/rich parents, that's their only similarity. Other than that, they're as different as you could possibly get.

the analogy was referring to that commonality and that their fame and success far exceeds their talent.

Van Sustern sold her soul a long time ago. She'd best keep her yap shut, do her crime psychodrama, and cash her check. She is not a journalist, she is a c-list personality.

That is a pretty funny accusation Great considering you and several others are on TV today due to the fact that you exploited the murders of O.J.Simpsons wife and Ron Goldman .To make matter worst she was wrong as an attorney in preconvicting Mr.Simpson along with the rest of the herd of attorney's who offered ambulance chaser arguments to prove his conviction on the air waves.Maybe it is time for a new face lift and nose job Greta because right now Anderson Cooper is "prettier "than you.Maybe Greta is jealous of those baby blue eyes and that gorgeous prematurely white hair.

AC is a non-talent period. Not that GV is any better though But AC is, at times, downright hard to watch at times. He is clumsy and does not really seem all that smart.

You are right about him not appearing to be very smart. I've been wondering about that. I thought maybe its just that he's just naive. Sometimes he seems incredulous when asking certain questions. And I wonder, is it that he is really that inexperienced? Is is that he's not very smart? Or is it just his personality? I still don't know the answer.

Oh come on! Anderson's extremely bright but he sometimes has to ask certain questions just for the benefit of his audience.

Greta should stop making faces at poor Anderson!

Claiming that his motives are suspect is so naive (& downright disgusting). Copper doesn't need the money -- he comes from money. He is a "principled jounalist" -- a foreign concept in for the Faux crowd -- no wonder they try to malign him. His coverage of Katrina was outright courageous and his reports (carried live from a down-&-dirty rowboat -- no teleprompter) woke-up the masses as to what kind of utter incompetence is running America. He was the very first one in the MSM press to challenge & expose Bushco for what they really are. We "all" owe AC a debt of gratitude. Thankyou AC !!

When Anderson went after Mary Landrieu on Katrina, Edward R. Murrow smiled down.

I miss Anderson and Rob (Marciano) doing live coverage. Watching them report as gas signs flew by them during a hurricane was amazing and fun to watch.

Anderson is my Boo!

My respect for Cooper has diminished to zero in this past year. He has shown his true colors and they're not very nice. He is definitely not who I thought he was.

What does "Unlike those on the side lines, I am the real thing - I spent 15 years in the criminal courts trying criminal cases and don't get my information from a teleprompter." Have to do with being a talking head for a biased cable network?

I don't care for either of them, but she's right about Anderson Cooper, he's a hypocrite when it comes to Katrina. He grilled Barack Obama on Rev. Wright's comments about 9/11 in his sermon, but he said little to nothing about Paster Hagee's insidious comments about Hurricane Katrina. This, coming from the man who was "crying" as he reported from New Orleans after the disaster there. He really tried to milk the Katrina disaster for all its worth, hoping to further his career.

Cooper is just another Republican hack--the networks only give jobs to loyal and mind-controlled conservatives.

The reporter who did the most honest coverage of Katrina was Aaron Brown and he was fired for his honesty that allowed America to get a good look at the ineptness and chaos that defines the Bush administration and their "mishandling" of post--Katrina.

So tired and concerned with the right--biased media that the networks choose to give us thier warped view of the "news".

I seriously doubt that Anderson Cooper is a Republican.

And the Kettle is sent reeling from a resounding body blow delivered by the pot, late in the round. Let's go live, now, to take a good look at the corner teams and see what the game plan is for the upcoming rounds...

Nothing like a fight to drive up the ratings of telejournalists...
At least the televangelists don't resort to this crap when their donations sink. But it would've been a riot if Oral Roberts would have tried raising his $8,000,000 by calling the Bakers phonies and starting a Holy Media War.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:07 PM on 07/06/2008

the televangelists cover for one another - they all know what the other is doing - their audiences are the real "marketing experiences" - they work in "the realm of mysteries and signs and wonders, in unexplained healings and words of knowledge because God is a mysssstery" and their gullible "target market" believes their on-air dramatic acting to be genuine so they kneel at their televisions and send in their money to those sleazebags - these trusting and faithful viewers even vote as they are told - the televangelists have found ways to lie and to cheat and to steal and to then shout "halleluia. look at what God has done for me"

Pat Robertson is the grandest fraud of them all.....he raised his son Gordon to be a "holyman for profit" and helped his fake holyman son cheat on his wife, keep the extramarital affair hidden and continue his on-air "healings and words of knowledge" throughout the affair - crying on cue is a good technique, in addition to squinting and gulping and gushing

The famous father/son holyman outfits are the ones who have done experiments on a "target market" and have cashed in and are now insulated - the news networks all know what is going on in televangelism but they look the other way

greed and fraud is what the holyman sons are raised up on - they understand that stagecraft and on-air healings and words of knowledge are an integral part of that lucrative family business

Just like telejournalists...

Kinda' like the real thing, but more about money, cornering a market and looking like the real thing .

Slightly different technique, but largely the same fraudulent mimic of the genuine article.

Over the last year I have lost all respect for Cooper. I was a huge fan but he has behaved like an Obama groupie. My household went CNN free in March and we are not missing it in the slightest. Can't wait until his 15 minutes are up.

I am "CNN free" also. I do not know why I ever wasted my time. For a very long time the first place I went in the mornings was CNN.com for news. Many of those reporters and anchors are fully aware of the wrongs and abuses of Pat and Gordon Robertson and CBN yet they continue their association with them. I am sure there are other examples of CNN looking the other way and picking their news for their convenience, inviting known frauds on their shows for ease. Believe me when I tell you that CNN has no integrity, and no concern for its viewers or for truth. Huffington Post regularly points out Fox, but I know that CNN is just as "fixed."

I did happen to see Anderson Cooper last night on another network reporting on gorillas and it was interesting. I do not care one way or the other except that I could not understand why CNN let Greta get away from them back when all that was going on. I thought she had heart, then I followed her to Fox and was addicted to her show during all the Natalee Holloway news. I think Great is genuine in her concern for people. I do not ever watch Greta now though.

Truthfully, I do not trust any of the "news" we see on the networks. They look the other way often - all of them.

Greta, exploitation? Yeah right. For one who has mastered the perverse Greta should know exploitation when she sees it.

This is a pathetically catchy attempt to turn two media hicks into something other than face-lifted, blue-shirted, lack-luster, drones.
