DENVER — Barack Obama's campaign is considering having him accept the Democratic presidential nomination at Invesco Field at Mile High instead of the Pepsi Center, the chosen site for the Democratic National Convention, two people with knowledge of convention planning said Thursday.

The two spoke on condition of anonymity because nothing has been confirmed.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said no decisions have been made.

Representatives for the convention host committee and Mayor John Hickenlooper declined to comment or said they did not know about the proposal. Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth said, "There's nothing to announce."

The convention will be held Aug. 25-28 at the Pepsi Center, with Obama scheduled to accept the Democratic presidential nomination on the final night, which also is the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1963.

Obama would be the first black nominee of a major political party.

The Pepsi Center's Web site says it can hold 21,000 people for special events. Invesco Field at Mile High, where the Denver Broncos play, seats more than 76,000.

I predict with 100% metaphysical certitude that there will be no outdoor acceptance speech by Sen Obama. It's nothing more than a play to motivate his base and for some sympathy votes when it is canceled due to "unspecified threats"

Another McCain talking point. Do they pay you, or are you a volunteer?

yeah, being able to pack 76,000 people into a stadium to witness history would stroke my ego too. Ever think that he's doing it for the people who are not delegates and who cannot get into the Pepsi Center - you know, the little people? Quit hating Venicesurfer.

Would you prefer an insecure, self loathing president?

No, we prefer the one "we the people" voted for ,not the DNC Choice for us .

The more the merrier. I think its fantastic they want to allow as many people as possible to share in this historic moment in history. I'll be watching my TV but suspect it will be no less exciting!!

People need to friggin grow up in this country.I really think a president should cater to everyone, if not we don't have democracy we have the current administration and situation BUSH/Cheney and co.

STOP GIVEN OBAMA A HARD TIME!!!! THIS IS THE U.S.A FOR US ALL.

PROGRESSIVES,LIBERAL,CONSERVATIVE,WHATEVER U MAY IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS.

I can't believe what I am reading! You people sound like children. Calling each other and the candidates names, grow up!

I have one comment to make and that is: Either your okay with the direction this country is going in (McCain) or your ready for a different direction (Obama). And although Obama is shifting to the center on some issues, the contrast between the two is still HUGE!!

He can't be everything to everybody all the time. Remember the point is to get elected!!

I was a Republican who changed to Independent because I was fed up with the mess the Republicans have gotten this country into, so no matter what Obama says or doesn't say He can't be any worse than where we are NOW or will be with McCain!!

Oh, if it were only that easy. It's not.

I think having this stadium to fill with supporters other than the bands, the party elite, the delegates, the media and so on is quite classy. He is trying to give regular supporters a chance to be at the convention. What is wrong with you people? Grow up.

This is "almost" funny. I know it's not about ego, but come now. Then there is the security risk involved. Not to mention the added cost. Of course, WallStreet has been flipping the bill all along for Mr. Obama.

He is trying to make everyone have a piece of his change process. What i love most about this man, he say We can make a difference. Every candidate always say I I I I I...I love that he makes us feel apart of his process. And for those that fear he make be assassinated in this huge arena, then i have this to say. When you heart if Full of Faith then you can not Fear. So Erase fear from your body, mind and soul because Obama has already done that.

I am not an expert in security nor claim to be but here are my two cents:

i suggest a pope mobile set- up if he is going to go in front of thousands for his nomination speech. Its almost impossible for Secret Service and Denver police to control some nutcase from slipping though the cracks, even the day before.

If anyone in Obama's campaign is reading this, please PROTECT HIM. Do not assume anything from anybody regarding security. BE PROACTIVE AND IF ANYONE ACTS SUSPICIOUS EVEN THE DAY BEFORE , he needs to be apprehended.

God bless Senator Obama for making the process so transparent that security has to be on a more heightened alert than ever. I hope and pray that all goes well, and we can enjoy Senator Obama's speech on what will be a very special night!!!

Actually, the Pope (Johh Paul II) HAS SPOKEN at Mile High before, so it's not like that type of high-level security is alien to the Denver Police Dept. (One presumes the Secret Service has had SOME experience with this type of venue befre.)

I agree. But, fear is human We all have fear of something or another.

I just hope we don't see an opening musical number from "Up With People" a jet fly over, laser lights, fireworkds dispaly, lions, tigers, dove release... The event has plenty of power without turning it into a Las Vegas production.
