Obama Has A Vision For Lincoln Bedroom

e's not president yet, but Barack Obama has already given some thought to White House decor.

Asked at a town hall-style meeting in Fargo, N.D., about any decorating plans for the Lincoln Bedroom, Obama described a visit to the White House after he became a U.S. senator.

"You have all these mementos of Abraham Lincoln, but you have this flat-screen TV in there," Obama told the crowd at the outdoor event.

"I thought to myself, 'Now, who stays in the Lincoln Bedroom and watches [ESPN's] 'Sports Center'? You've got your clicker. . . . That didn't seem to me to be appropriate. So I might take out the TV, I don't know.

If Lincoln were alive today, he would have been a Cardinal fan.

That would make ESPN in the Lincoln bedroom quite appropriate.

(Then again, being that Sen. Obama hails from the south side of Chicago, he's likely to favor the Cubbies over the Cardinals, so maybe he'd be wise to pull the plug on The Tube).

Two things missing from this story:
1. A woman asked what I thought was a highly offensive question: If the Obamas were going to redecorate the bedroom in kinte. I thought the question was more news worthy than the answer.
2. Probably in an attempt to defuse the tension after the question, Sen. Obama responded in a very light and joking manner that wasn't conveyed by this report.

If I remember correctly, someone was measuring the windows of the white house for the new drapery thinking that person "will* be the POTUS in 2009. The primaries didn't even start when the above remark was made. Now I know where that person is but definitely not in the presidential race.
