Until last month, Jason Burnett was a high-ranking political appointee at the Environmental Protection Agency. But "after concluding there was no more progress to be made on greenhouse gases under the Bush administration," he resigned.

The AP reported recently:

[Burnett] helped developed the EPA's response to last year's Supreme Court ruling that the agency had the authority to regulate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

But work on the issue was put on hold in December after Congress passed legislation enacting tougher automobile mileage requirements. Johnson has acknowledged that the next administration probably will have to decide whether carbon dioxide endangers public health as a greenhouse gas. The EPA is expected soon to issue a draft finding for public comment.

"I think that most people who have studied the Clean Air Act recognize the challenges posed by the Supreme Court case, but the nation is best served by confronting those challenges, not trying to delay the inevitable," Burnett said in an interview.

Now Burnett is trying a new path to reducing the threat of global warming: aiding Barack Obama.

After submitting his resignation last month, he donated $3,600 to Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign. That came on top of a $1,000 contribution he made to Obama before rejoining the EPA last year.

A Stanford-trained economist and a Democrat, Burnett, 31, said in an interview that he was moving back to Northern California to campaign for Obama and Rep. Sam Farr (D-Carmel).

He said he was counting on them to support stepped-up efforts to curb greenhouse gases.

"Climate change endangers health and welfare," Burnett said. "The EPA is required to use existing law to reduce greenhouse gases. The sooner we begin addressing it in earnest, the better off we'll be."

Welcome Aboard Jason - -NOW - First - Where do you think you can do the most good to undo the damage caused by the bushie planet killers? Second, we like you to share info about where are those closets w/skeletons, and do you have any 'smoking guns' documents or knowledge who or where they might be found.? Of course you know what we are talking about, remember - the NYC ground zero - the 'safe to breathe' finding, how about the one w/ Mercury poison- or the ones about Dupont & the river polluted with Teflon byproducts - and the air standards that they pushed to reduce standards and benefit the 'good ole boys'.

We are REALLY glad to have you aboard and expect that together, we can regain the momentum to clean our air, provide safe water and reduce greenhouse gases to preserve our planet for our children.

The MSM is officially obsolete/irrelevant. Only way to get decent news now is to watch Jon Stewart, read the Huff or watch TheYoungTurks.

You go to Jon Stewart for news?? You're doomed to a life of half truths, jump edits and all too predictable double takes. The Huff is a place for opinion and the Young Turks are the weakest source for news of all three you mentioned. Try NPR (almost any show) or the BBC.

Jon Stewart gives more news than the MSM.

You should give his show a try. Bonus: a good laugh is always healthy.

And forget NPR as they have become so Republican you may as well watch or

listen to Fixed Fox.

The BBC is usually very good.

Print media, the BEST is McClatchy, which can be found on Huffpost's Main Page,

bottom right. News from Iraq, around the world and DC is well written, interesting

and factual.

The best we can do with news today, is get the "germ" of the idea and research the story ourselves. Jon Stewart might give half truths and jump edits, but he is a good "starting point" to enlighten ourselves. You get out of it what you invest in it. I agree with you about NPR and the BBC. I would maybe add the CBC (Canada's BBC), too.

High ranking political appointee, a democrat and he just recently determined there was no more progress to be made on global warming with this administration? I must have missed the progress that has been made.

Another political hack who helped make and keep the EPA useless, and Obama picks him up.

The Republican party and the far right in this country need to be beaten into submission once and for all. Incredibly, there are still people so unpatritotic and determined to destroy America that they will insist on voting for McCain and other GOP candidates despite the insurmountable evidence that these idiots are incapable of running goverment. This has to be the only nation on earth that has citizens who are so self loathing that they want to not benefit at all from the tax dollars they funnel into the federal and state coffers. Grover Norquist and Ronald reagan are the patron saints of anti-government.

I don't agree with your statement of ..."despite the unsurmountable evidence that these idiots are incapable of running government"....my reason being that the way they ran the "government" shows how brilliantly (fooled us with the help of the MSM) they launched a diabolical plan that would make Hitler proud.

We invaded Iraq with lies about WMD's
The Patriot Act-to protect us
FISA-unwarranted taps on Americans
Tax Cuts for the Rich
Outing of CIA agent
Constant terror alerts

all of these things plus much more that we know and don't know about has proven that they "DO" know how to RUN the government. They just ran in a way that is contrary to human and compassionate beings. That was their agenda all along.

He's only just figured that out now? I could have made that conclusion on January 21, 2001!

4wehttam,

McCain DOES get away with everything. The guy is the MSM darling and does no wrong. I am looking for an open comment section on the political stories and see none. I want to express my opinion to CNN (and others)

Anyway, on topic, doesn't this show how much appeal Obama has on both sides of the aisle? Both Powell, and Hagel are not ruling out an Obama vote. Not to mention the lady that was working for the Clinton campaign that moved to Obama (can't think of her name). There are several others I can't remember as well. Yea, it's news, but NO the MSM will not do anything to make old McCain look bad. Then again, he's doing a pretty good job of that himself. We can only hope the blind will see.

Most people have no idea what goes on with regards to the EPA. This is meaningless. Clinton-Gore were pathetic, as they gave the middle finger to progressives across the board. The EPA??? The FDA??? Total jokes!

When the Dem.'s gave us Alito and Roberts, that was great? They gave us Mukasey... great! They gave Bush MORE money than he asked for, and 2 yrs later, we have MORE troops in Iraq. The difference between me and many modern progressive bloggers? I lived through this a long time ago.... most people think this is new. The 80s were the end folks... Clinton made Nixon seem like Nader. If you are selling a lemon, putting out a "good guy" to sell the thing makes no difference... Obama is a good man, but progressives are too lazy for it to matter.

Who dies their hair to LOOK older? Some people just grey (sp?) faster then others. Some even do so in their 30's.

Just imagine how fast Mac must be aging. He may have to make his nomination acceptance speech from inside an urn.

Yes to greying hair and aging that fast. Some days his face is more drawn and creases are deeper (probably depends on levels of stress and fatigue).
