The pro-war veterans group Vets For Freedom is airing ads in battleground states in support of the war, the Washington Post reports:

Sen. John McCain is getting battleground-state help this week from Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who will appear in a television commercial aimed at convincing the public that the United States is winning the Iraq war and should stay to finish the job.

Produced by Vets for Freedom, an organization of veterans of the two wars, the ad will run in Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and on cable nationwide. The group, with about 20,000 members, will spend $1.5 million on what it says is the first of many spots during the next month.

. . .

The ad features eight veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and the mother of a soldier in Iraq. "We changed strategy in Iraq," one of the soldiers says in the ad. "And the surge worked. Now that's change we can believe in. We need to finish the job. . . . No matter who is president."

(WATCH THE AD)

McCain recently borrowed an anti-Obama line from a Vets For Freedom ad. Senators Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman were forced to leave Vets For Freedom because of their roles in the McCain campaign.

So active duty military can get into politics? This needs to be investigated! If it is such a great idea then they need to get back to Iraq and not "Cut and Run" from the war.

Make Iran part of the solution. Offer to leave Iraq in exchange for Iran abandoning it's enrichment program.
Put a real carrot on the table.

Hey... they should have come and asked me....

Of course they would have edited out what I have to say bc as the spouse of a 3 time Iraq combat veteran, THE SURGE SUCKS AND THAT COUNTRY IS STILL A LIVING NIGHTMARE!!!!

My husband, SSGT in the Marine Corps is currently in Iraq serving his 3rd term now... he says it won't be so easy as 16 months to pull the troops out but at some point, someone has got to start the process!!!!

MCBush as President will do us NO GOOD!!!! We are fighting for Halliburton to make big bucks... not for any Iraqi Freedom...

The surge was supposed to buy the Iraqi Government time to actually accomplsih something... so far, they have accomplished basically NOTHING!!!! Radicals still control half the damn country... and we have to wait on Iran and radicals like Sadr before the fighting will stop....

Give me a brake that the surge is working.... want troop casualties to go down???

Hint: Get the troops out of there!

Check out the Sourcewatch website and see who funds this group. They have ties to Bill Kristol and the Jewish Republican Coalition. Gee I wonder why they're pumping the war?

Spartan mothers told their sons to come back with their shields...or on them.

There are enough women like that today.

Why is it so quiet?

I'm listening for all the pundits who said there aren't any right-wing 527s this time - you know, the ones who dismissed Obama's concerns about the RNC and 527s skirting the limits of the public finance system? I'm listening for them to admit they were wrong.

Still quiet. I'll just keep listening.

"Senators Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman were forced to leave Vets For Freedom because of their roles in the McCain campaign. "

Excuse me what am I missing in that line from the story. When was Joe Lieberman a vet?
Before he got a student deferment as an undergrad at Yale or his next student deferment to go to Yale Law School?

The message about this war isn't that one side wants success and another side wants failure.

The difference is that one side sees success as being able to bring them home in 16 months while the other side sees success as being able to leave them there for a hundred years.

Look at them. They are kids. They should be in school. Not fighting an unjust war.

I am reminded of James Brown's (the singer) famous quote:

"Gettin' it up is one thing. Keepin' it up is sumthin' else."

Right now the US military is about as limp as it has ever been.

Amazing, isn't it?

A friend of mine recently came back from his 3rd tour in Iraq. His feelings - "we need to get the H out of there, fast"

Because guys in the military need to feel like they achieved something. It's not their fault, but the U.S. military does not seem to have achieved anything and it's hard to admit when you've seen so many people killed and injured.
