The RNC is using its financial edge to get out front with an Obama attack ad in battleground states, the Washington Post reports:

The Republican National Committee last night began running ads questioning Barack Obama's commitment to energy reform, the first major ad buy by either party in the presidential race.

"Record gas prices, a climate in crisis," says the ad's narrator. "John McCain says solve it now." The spot then details McCain's "balanced" plan on energy and notes that the Arizona Senator is "pushing his own party to face climate change."

Obama, on the other hand, says nothing but "no" when it comes to addressing the energy problems the country is facing. "He just says no to lower gas taxes.... No to nuclear.... No to more production," says the narrator before concluding: "No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line."

The ads are running the four key battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They were produced by a newly formed independent expenditure arm of the RNC being run by Brad Todd, a GOP media consultant.

(WATCH)

Obama's campaign responds: "What we need to solve our energy crisis is an honest debate about the choices before us, not more attack ads that mislead voters about the facts. There's a real choice in this election between John McCain's promise to continue the Bush approach of trying to drill our way out of our energy crisis - which even he admits won't lower prices this summer - or Barack Obama's plan to provide meaningful short-term relief for our families and to make a historic investment in alternative energy development that will create millions of new jobs, keep the cost of energy affordable and secure our energy independence once and for all."

I am tired of the assertion that the Dems can’t get anything done even with a majority. This is extremely misleading. First, let’s have an honest critique, the Republicans held the majority in the House and the Senate until 2007. Under President Bush, the Republicans had full Party control. It was during this time period that Bush pushed through his radical economic policies and rewrote the Constitution to establish authoritarian rule.

Since 2007, the Democrats hold a majority in the House but not the Senate. The one vote majority in the Senate is moot when you consider the fact that Lieberman switched his affiliation to Independent and supports McCain. Both the House and the Senate are needed to pass legislation, and even then, you need a President willing to sign the legislation. The Republicans with Bush at the helm have been the most corrupt, dangerous, and reckless Party in the history of this country.

We've got to understand that gas prices (2008 dollars) will be somewhere between $15 and $20 dollars per gallon by the time the United States offshore shelf is yielding oil (in 7 to 10 years).

Why?

The demand curve, driven by economic expansion in China and India will completely negate any additional supply.

Choose alternative energy now.

WE CAN!

Our power grid, over 40 percent of which was oil dependent in the late 60's, has been converted to a less than 14 percent dependency upon petroleum.

That's REALLY good news.

Because it means that we've only to attack the transportation grid.

Now, we could follow McCain's blueprint and ride oil as far as possible, which is basically his plan. That, however, would seat us at a poker table where OPEC holds all the Aces and our high card's a 10 or a Jack. Dig? They've got A LOT MORE OIL.

OR we could build mass transit, subsidize plug-in hybrids via tax breaks, offer HUGE incentives to Detroit to raise CAFE standards, and do the same for the energy sector as regards alternative energy.

IN OTHER WORDS, let's pass on the car battery lottery that is John McCain's "vision" and shoot for the moon with an Apollo program for energy.

We can win this battle. But we've got to present our case - for real - to the American people.

If we do - and do so honestly - the American people will see through McSame.

The only green that the Repubs and McCrankypants care about is what they can get flowing like wine into their Swiss bank accounts from the oil companies, the defense contractors, Halliburton and the lobbyists. Same old, same old.

Who the hell writes these ads? They are simple minded, misleading and without substance. I am sick of these types of ads. I vote for a candidate based on their integrity, their stands on issues, which aren't delineated at all in these ads. Disgusting. People need to educate themselves and no education occurs through ads such as these.

I guess they feel that once again they can fool the people who are against thinking entirely based on the principle that Fox News is fair and balanced. And sadly, not everyone votes in their best interest and does research as you do. Did you hear some of these folk in WV? And they are supposed to be Democrats!!!

I agree with you fully…
This election like the two in the past is coming down to the same basic elements. Some people read, think and analyze the candidates and issues while the other 50 percent rely on slogans, circulating ‘factual’ emails, and out of context cuts from ads like this and MSM for all their information. The later can’t argue a point of fact unless it was regurgitated from aforementioned sources or another person getting the same information from the same sources. Circular logic then becomes a truthful argument in their minds.

Case in point: Yesterday I was pulled into a discussion on domestic oil drilling. The people discussing the imporance of drill, drill, drill, off Florida or where ever got all their information from the ANWAR email recently circulating in our area. After pointing out the flaws in their argument and being called an elitist, the bottom line in their thinking was it is ok to pay Exxon, Mobile, or Shell $4.00 a gallon as long as they get it and not the Arabs. …and by the way there is no global warming because an Email (unbeknown to them from a coal engineer) said so.

Go figure??

After seeing ths ad, I think a lot of voters will conclude that Obama is probably better than McCain on energy and the environment. The overall look is a lot like a self-congratulatory oil company ad from about 1978. "We're Big Oil - and We CARE About The Environment!" Yeah, right.

The Democratic party is suffering from severe money problems because voters just feel it's a waste of money to support a party that caves EVERY DAMNED TIME to the republicans.

They are in the majority and still give the president and his lackeys WHATEVER they want WHENEVER they want it. I've been to the Democratic Party website and the people there just won't contribute because the feel the Democratic party keeps letting them down.

So yeah, sure the RNC has more money because they at least STICK TO WHAT THEY BELIEVE and their supporters know their money is going to go to a party that sticks to it's guns right or wrong (well just about always wrong).

So until the democrats go find and reattach their balls and have a spinal cord implant they are going to keep suffering from severe money shortages as a party.

DUDE WHERE'S MY POSTS!

With a candidate such as Obama, the Democratic party has at least a chance to come around. This man is intelligent and has the ability to effect change. I will give money to him and to Democrats running for Senate seats. This is the first time in my 61 years I have ever donated to politicians and it is because I feel that Obama can indeed effect change. Anway, consider the alternative.

LawSource, we both know that the reason behind tax the poor and middle class is due to Reaganomics. Trickle down economics that was bent on tax and spend on military to morph the message of tax and spend liberals who spent money on social programs to empower the those in need.

Right now the majority of PhD students are not Americans but foreigners. If our government can't promote education and the empowerment of the working and middle class to afford to make purchase where they don't have to decide whether they can afford to buy milk and eggs or gasoline for their cars to get to work. It doesn't take much to know that the economy is in recession and possible depression due to horrible fiscal mistakes of the current administration.

"...Right now the majority of PhD students are not Americans but foreigners..." People write this comment but fail to understand it. Even American PhDs have pronlems finding job. A MIT graduate was shown on the news, standing on the street handing out his resume.

American businesses want temporary workers (low salary, no pension, no benefits). And foreigners educated at a US college make the best temporary workers. This phenomena will continue until the US median income is equivalent to starting wages in China and India.

Well put "LawSource"! No they don't get it. The Republicans have run this country into the ground and are shameless enough to think we are so ignorant as to continue to let hem hold the reins. McCain is no Maverick. Just a legend in his own mind who thinks the Presidency is owed him and thisis his last desperate chance to collect.

Nice slick ad that makes a lot of unsubstantiated and disconnected points (more drilling = green?)

Obama needs to run a half minute of Al Gore explaining exactly how McCain's votes have hurt the environment.
