The RNC is using its financial edge to get out front with an Obama attack ad in battleground states, the Washington Post reports:

The Republican National Committee last night began running ads questioning Barack Obama's commitment to energy reform, the first major ad buy by either party in the presidential race.

"Record gas prices, a climate in crisis," says the ad's narrator. "John McCain says solve it now." The spot then details McCain's "balanced" plan on energy and notes that the Arizona Senator is "pushing his own party to face climate change."

Obama, on the other hand, says nothing but "no" when it comes to addressing the energy problems the country is facing. "He just says no to lower gas taxes.... No to nuclear.... No to more production," says the narrator before concluding: "No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line."

The ads are running the four key battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They were produced by a newly formed independent expenditure arm of the RNC being run by Brad Todd, a GOP media consultant.

(WATCH)

Obama's campaign responds: "What we need to solve our energy crisis is an honest debate about the choices before us, not more attack ads that mislead voters about the facts. There's a real choice in this election between John McCain's promise to continue the Bush approach of trying to drill our way out of our energy crisis - which even he admits won't lower prices this summer - or Barack Obama's plan to provide meaningful short-term relief for our families and to make a historic investment in alternative energy development that will create millions of new jobs, keep the cost of energy affordable and secure our energy independence once and for all."

"Let's just keep doing what we've always done, folks. Destroying the environment, polluting the ocean, making guys like me richer"...the message of McCain and the RNC. No ideas, no vision and certainly no empathy for the average American.

The ad ends stating Obama voted with the Dem Party 97 % of the time. Like that was a bad thing!!!!!

Republicans are soooooooooooo stupid.

Everyone, including low information voters, know the Republicans are responsible for our debts

and messes.

So the ad ending is actually doing Obama a Favor!

Too funny!

What would be a better ending ad line:

McCain voted against the new GI Bill and improving Veterans benefits every time. Is that a Commander in Chief the military can believe in?

Well why shouldn't they attack him? Everybody else is. Even his own so-called Dem supporters. Just read the comments on this web site and the articles from A.r.i.a.n.n.a. Even her comments in public. With friends like these he doesn't need enemies.

Sabreen60 I couldn't agree with you more, they act as if he is suppose
to be their puppet.

No he isn't supposed to be our puppet but he is supposed to be THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY candidate and not the candidate that moves to the center right to appease the rightwing media so they don't talk naughty about him.

He told us one thing while running and is now suddenly changing his stance on a lot of issues and the most important one to DEMOCRATS, not just the so called far left, the fringe or whatever the media calls them, but the vast majority of democrats, FISA.

WE democrats consider this a cornerstone in his promises to protect the Constitution and our civil rights instead of his Kow Towing to the rightwing media, or as it is more commonly known COWERING.

And I KNOW I read where he said he doesn't do cowering. Wonder what happened to THAT stance?

Yeah, I'm pretty frustrated and disgusted. I don't want another 4 years of the cr@p we've had to live through. Some Dems are just plain stupid. Why do they think we have not won but 3 of the last 10 general elections. He's our nominee and unless we plan on nominating someone else at the convention, then we better start supporting him like we mean it. I have never seen supporters treat their nominee like this before. They have little or no faith in him and quite frankly I'm beginning to ascribe other reasons for these attacks. Anybody that has been following him for almost 2 years know he's never been far left. I think these people are trying to sabotage his candidacy.

Let me see if I got this right, so, the Republican Party...the party of corruption, war profiteering, the destruction of the constitution and the gutting of the E.P.A. are now the ones who will fix all that is wrong with our country. How absurd! All they know how to do is spend our money, give themselves tax cuts and no bid billion dollar contracts and destroy the environment and the list seems to go on forever!

You are extremly naive if you think only the Republican Party is corrupt. Open your eyes young one. How can you have Pelosi and Reid in office and say that with a straight face?

They are the same party, there is no difference. They are the ruling class, where there should be a representative republic.

It'll be great to see who gets blamed once the carbon tax kills all the industry. How will you get your free healthcare when there's no income being made to tax?

I see your words jumping off the page. The only thing they don't contain are the very same solutions you propose everyone else should provide. So I pose the questions to you. "How do you propose we fix what ails our planet?" "How do you propose to fix the energy crisis?"

Not that I think you'll come up with anything vaguely responsible or that I even really care about what you have to say (judging by your commentary thus far). My point is that it's easy to point the finger at others and try to put them on the defensive when you yourself have no viable solution to the problem at hand. Typical Republican tactics.

Exactly what we need to rid ourselves of.

Get your head out. Obama is trying to get this country on the right track. There's so much to fix thanks to the last 8 years of this administration.

FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS John McCain has REPEATEDLY voted AGAINST alternative energy legislation. it is because of people like him that we are now 20 years later in an energy crisis!!!

LET'S JUST GO TO 1999:

-- In 1999 McCain OPPOSED Research On Electric Vehicles.

-- In 2002 McCain voted against an amendment that would mandate that renewable energy sources must produce at least 10 percent of the electricity sold by electric utilities by 2020.

-- In July 2003, McCain voted AGAINST the proposal to raise fuel-economy standards for cars and light trucks to 40 miles a gallon by 2015. In June 2005, he voted against a congressional proposal to establish a renewable-electricity standard of 10% by 2020.

-- In 2006 John McCain Repeatedly Voted AGAINST an amendment to extend the renewable energy production tax credit and clean renewable energy bonds programs for four years including $290 Million for renewable energy R&D on Solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, hydropower.

-- Just this year 2008, McCain voted AGAINST The Farm Bill -- $300 Million in Renewable Biofuels Funding. The farm bill "provides $300 million in mandatory funding for payments to support production of advanced biofuels including cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel." There is also "$250 million in grants and loan guarantees for renewable energy and energy efficiency systems for agriculture and rural small businesses."

McBush has a "camera problem". Green is not his thing, pun intended. It reminds me of the green background the night McBush thought he could garner attention away from Obama in St. Paul. Note to GOP: It's your candidate, stupid!

This ad would be very convincing for those voters who have been in a cave the last 7 years.
