The RNC is using its financial edge to get out front with an Obama attack ad in battleground states, the Washington Post reports:

The Republican National Committee last night began running ads questioning Barack Obama's commitment to energy reform, the first major ad buy by either party in the presidential race.

"Record gas prices, a climate in crisis," says the ad's narrator. "John McCain says solve it now." The spot then details McCain's "balanced" plan on energy and notes that the Arizona Senator is "pushing his own party to face climate change."

Obama, on the other hand, says nothing but "no" when it comes to addressing the energy problems the country is facing. "He just says no to lower gas taxes.... No to nuclear.... No to more production," says the narrator before concluding: "No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line."

The ads are running the four key battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They were produced by a newly formed independent expenditure arm of the RNC being run by Brad Todd, a GOP media consultant.

(WATCH)

Obama's campaign responds: "What we need to solve our energy crisis is an honest debate about the choices before us, not more attack ads that mislead voters about the facts. There's a real choice in this election between John McCain's promise to continue the Bush approach of trying to drill our way out of our energy crisis - which even he admits won't lower prices this summer - or Barack Obama's plan to provide meaningful short-term relief for our families and to make a historic investment in alternative energy development that will create millions of new jobs, keep the cost of energy affordable and secure our energy independence once and for all."

Let's start with the obvious stuff:

The "No Nuclear" attack on Obama is a lie. No other way around it.
From Obama's campaign site:
Nuclear power represents more than 70 percent of our non-
carbon generated electricity. It is unlikely that we can meet our aggressive climate goals if we
eliminate nuclear power from the table. However, there is no future for expanded nuclear
without first addressing four key issues: public right-to-know, security of nuclear fuel and
waste, waste storage, and proliferation. Barack Obama introduced legislation in the U.S.
Senate to establish guidelines for tracking, controlling and accounting for spent fuel at nuclear
power plants.

Anyone who thinks Obama hasn't bee working on a variety of solutions hasn't ever read the healthcare for Hybrids Act.

Along with his actual energy plan

And on the, "Climate in Crisis" part, lest we forget, the League of Conservation Voters gives John McCain a score of ZERO in 2007 and 29 in 2006. Meanwhile, Obama scores a 67 in 2007 and a PERFECT SCORE in 2006.

In 2001 oil averaged $23 per barrel. Bush said we needed to get off foreign oil. Oil is now $140 and he's still saying that without having developed any plan.

With our backs up against a wall, all we hear is drill more. There is more than enough oil out there and Senator McCain, what's so green about drilling more?

Senator McCain, with all of your experience, why is it only now that you are proposing to drill offshore especially when you were against it previously? What was your previous plan for energy independence?

"With our backs up against a wall, all we hear is drill more."

It's a bit like a cocaine addict saying, "I'm addicted to cocaine. I need to do something about this" and decides to resolve the issue by producing his own cocaine. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

LOL.

Seeing as how the GOP appeals so much to the south, a more apt example would be to use meth instead.

In which case, they DO resolve the issue by producing their own, and then it blows up in your bath tub. The equivalent of an oil spill on Florida's beaches, for example.

More of the same Washington old school nonsense.

Why can't the republicans do ONE ad that doesn't mention the opponent at all? One ad that tells what THEY are about instead of what the opponent isn't about. This negative campaigning is the total pits and I'll be glad when it's GONE WITH THE WIND!

I see. And that's sad for the republicans. They don't have a thing to base an agenda on. Maybe they need to become democrats this year and join the crowd :)

Are Republicans trying to say that there are white Judeo-Christian church goers who will not vote for Senator Barack Obama because he is black and spent 20 years as a member of a Chicago church ministered by Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr.? Well, it is time to stop and reflect just what Dr. Wright was preaching in his sermons when he made the statement "G-D America and chickens are coming home to roost!" Dr. Wright was talking about the beginning of black African slavery in the 1600's when white tobacco growers in the Territory of Virginia needed free labor to work their fields. The product they were growing was and still is used to produce nicotine filled pipe tobacco, cigars/cigarettes, and smokeless chewing tobacco which has needlessly killed millions upon millions of people around the world. I am sure we all know someone who has died directly from tobacco use. Also, one might say, "the chickens have come home to roost" because of what slave owners did to millions of African American those many years. In my opinion, belittling Senator Obama for his association with Dr. Wright, as Fox News has made it a point to do numerous times, during this campaign, is nonsense and a spurious reason to get people not to vote for Senator Obama. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot see past the senator's skin color to his outstanding ability to lead this nation when deciding to vote. Please note, Godfearing is white!

It's interesting because the entire Right leaning media told us that Obama had a financial edge that he was going to cynically exploit to battle Right wing funding that didn't exist.

Yet, it DOES exist. Obama's campaign were correct, and the entire media were wrong.

I await the massive retractions and corrections.

Also, I guess saying that Obama is most aligned with Democrats is a TOTAL burn on him right?

WRONG.

If anything, people will be happy that he's got nothing to do with the Rethuglicans.

This ad's comments about Obama and the electric car actually earned the McCain campaign not just an "untrue" rating at politicheck.org, but a "Pants on Fire" rating, it's so untrue.

How the hell can we hold products to higher levels of truth than political ads? The RNC is ridiculous. We can only pray that the majority of voters will get that, instead of being swiftboated themselves.

I'm impressed an actual ad where the republicans do what they do best: LIE about the issues. What a step up from lying about Nonissues.

Obama has said he would use a "range" of solutions to deal with energy and climate change, including an attempt to use nuclear energy. Obama and Al Gore said there was a possibility that nuclear could be used as a transitional source, as long as spent fuel can be stored safely.

And this OBAMA IS A LIBERAL is such a tired piece of BS. Read this story from 2004 about how Republicans have used that ploy for the last few decades:

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200406/green

"The Republican National Committee is responsible for" 85% of Americans feeling that the country is on THE WRONG TRACK.

Pay for all the ads you want. You're still the progeny of GEORGE W. BUSH.
