The RNC is using its financial edge to get out front with an Obama attack ad in battleground states, the Washington Post reports:

The Republican National Committee last night began running ads questioning Barack Obama's commitment to energy reform, the first major ad buy by either party in the presidential race.

"Record gas prices, a climate in crisis," says the ad's narrator. "John McCain says solve it now." The spot then details McCain's "balanced" plan on energy and notes that the Arizona Senator is "pushing his own party to face climate change."

Obama, on the other hand, says nothing but "no" when it comes to addressing the energy problems the country is facing. "He just says no to lower gas taxes.... No to nuclear.... No to more production," says the narrator before concluding: "No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line."

The ads are running the four key battleground states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They were produced by a newly formed independent expenditure arm of the RNC being run by Brad Todd, a GOP media consultant.

(WATCH)

Obama's campaign responds: "What we need to solve our energy crisis is an honest debate about the choices before us, not more attack ads that mislead voters about the facts. There's a real choice in this election between John McCain's promise to continue the Bush approach of trying to drill our way out of our energy crisis - which even he admits won't lower prices this summer - or Barack Obama's plan to provide meaningful short-term relief for our families and to make a historic investment in alternative energy development that will create millions of new jobs, keep the cost of energy affordable and secure our energy independence once and for all."

I saw this ad on-air for the first time this morning. Didn't think it was very believable - but then I'm here on HuffPost so have followed the issue.

We cannot afford to let McCain frame this issue for the uninformed.

Exactly! This is what I worry about, the uninformed voter, the one that depends on the TV and sound bites to determine who to vote for. What can we do about them?

RNC?

you mean 12 years of demonstrated incompetence in running the economy and handling the dollar?

Its funny that they say Obama has 97% party line voting when John McCain has 98%.

The RNC should stick to it's day job and stop competiting for the last comic standing.

guess what! They'll get it all worked out.

Y'all just don't need to worry your silly little heads anymore.

If you're lucky, Obama will be able to implement his vision of clean, sustainable energy for this country.

If McBush's handlers win, then you can kiss your butt goodbye!

I give a $20.00 a month pledge to the DNC, automatically taken from my bank account, don't even miss it. I give my lump sum money to Obama, what I can afford. It works out very well and the DNC has a steady monthly income. Think about it.

They need money. Everyone was giving to O.bama and C.linton before, but it's time to send money to the DNC.

The only green the repugs believe in are dollar bills. For years, they denied denied the problem and denied the need to do anything about it. Now, in a hotly contested election, THEY are the leading voice. RIGHT. Let their attacks on Obama and Gore, begin. Anybody that believes the repugs desire are blind.

This goes with the online campaign of phony "disgruntled" Hillary supporter websites like Dems for McCain, former Hillary Supporters for McCain, and Pumpac.

Pumapac, the so-called Pac started by former Hillary supporters was started by a Republican who supported and donated to McCain long before Hillary suspended her campaign.

As usual, the MSM hasn't even taken a minute to look into these websites and Pacs. CNN and the ilk just report them as the truth.

Precisely how can McCain maintain "environmental balance" if many of his top supporters are oilmen?

These is no environmental balance. What none of these articles show is who funded this "independent" arm of the RNC. I imagine it's big oil and big energy. The same people who wrote VP Cheney's "energy policy".

These same people fund the AM radio talkshows and are behind the global warming naysaying.

John McCain is just another Bush for these corporations to prop-up as another "president of the US".

I think the key phrase here concerns McCain "..pushing his own party to face climate change." This is the party that's been denying climate change for years. Take a look at the position of the senior senator from Oklahoma, Republican James Inhofe:

I find it hard to take McCain seriously.

The RNC should save its money. John McCain cannot dodge his record, nor the record of Bush/Cheney. These people are using their 1990s smear tactics which should have ended in 2004. McCain cannot understand or comprehend the environmental issues. The only things green around McCain was that wall banner last month and Cindy's bank account. Be a good example McCain and pay your taxes.

If McCain were serious, our national interest in the Middle East would dwindle significantly. So why the 100 years in Iraq?
