I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Koppel This Week

Have I been giving Ted Koppel too much credit all my life? Because whoever showed up wearing his skin today on This Week with George Stephanopulos behaved like such a drooling font of unparalleled nonsense that introducing it as "Ted Koppel" didn't adequately prepare me to have my mind blown away by some of the most specious crud I've heard in a long while.

This Week's panel was hot on the trail of the Obama "false flip-flop" meme: where the McCain camp paints Obama's unhesitating position on Iraq as a sudden and unexpected change of course and the press puts on the court stenographer's cap and tsk-tsks it into infinity. Well, Ted went a few steps beyond:

KOPPEL: You know, George, you said we'll get to the energy thing later. Let me suggest we get to that right away. I think his advisers have conveyed to him what has known all along: U.S. troops are in a part of the world that produces a vast -- not the majority, but a huge amount of oil and natural gas. We will have U.S. troops in that region for years to come, whether we want to or not. And I think Senator Obama has come to that realization. He's come to know that you cannot pull all the troops out of Iraq, unless you put them somewhere else. You talked a little bit about Iran and about the dangers in Iran. This is not a time to be saying, yes, we're going to pull all the U.S. troops out of there, come what may.

[WATCH.]

Koppel went on to say that involved upwards of "80,000 to 100,000 troops" in Iraq "three to five years from now."

Where to begin? Maybe with the notion that Obama needed "advisers" to tell him, last week, that Iraq was an oil-producing nation, and that this sudden realization is what has powered Obama's flip-flop...you know, the one that hasn't even happened yet!

Then you get this nonsense: "I think Senator Obama has come to that realization. He's come to know that you cannot pull all the troops out of Iraq, unless you put them somewhere else... This is not a time to be saying, yes, we're going to pull all the U.S. troops out of there, come what may."

But Obama hasn't recently "come to the realization" that you "cannot pull all the troops out of Iraq" without putting them somewhere else. In fact, this is the very thing he has been advocating - redeploying these resources to fight and defeat al Qaeda. Remember al Qaeda, Ted? Afghan-Pakistan border dwelling al Qaeda? Attacked us in 2001? Since let off the hook by the merry appeasers of the Bush administration? That was the "come what may" that the Bush White House turned into one big "What? How come?"

But Koppel didn't stop there. A few minutes later, ABC's viewing audience got hit with this claptrap:

KOPPEL: And that what he is showing, essentially in just about every decision that he has made, and you can refer to it as a flip-flop, each flip has been in the direction of showing how tough he is. None of them has moved in the direction of softening a position. He's been doing nothing but hardening positions all along. And I think that's wait that he shows that he's tough enough to be president.

[WATCH.]

Wow. So "toughness" is best demonstrated through a willingness to occupy troubled Middle East nations - thus fomenting international terrorism - because their oil needs to be secured - thus bringing the nation no closer to ending our nation's oil addiction? Why stop there? Why not be a President who's tough enough to hammer a nail into his own skull with a rock?

Someone needs to drive over to Ted Koppel's home, where I believe you will find his cocooned corpse, laid out next to a seed-pod from a distant, and idiotic, galaxy.

Have I been giving Ted Koppel too much credit all my life? Because whoever showed up wearing his skin today on This Week with George Stephanopulos behaved like such a drooling font of unparalleled no...

This is not new news. I remember Koppell on Meet the Press appearance defending this war. I remeber the softbl coverage leading up to the war on Nightline... I liked his show but he was as pro war as Russert.

Well it looks like some at CNN got the Memo. That the American People are not only going to hold this Administration accountable for their reckless behavior but we are also going to hold the media accountable for this also.

Why else is Wolf preparing his defense by pulling out this old footage to make his case that tough questions were asked but it was the administration that lied.

I was startled by Koppel's statements and angry at his characterization of Obama's mindset. He's always been cynical, patronizing and a little hard to take for my taste. But after several hours of reflection and research, there are some things to consider (which is not to say that I'm any the happier at the way he chose to "deliver the message").
By best estimates in 2005, the U.S. operates or controls AT LEAST 750 military bases in 63 countries, and it is probably closer to 1,000. When you factor in all of the military personnel, State Dept. employees, their family members, contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers (everything from filing cabinets to aircraft carriers), we're talking about one helluva lot of American voters who depend on the U.S. govt. for their livelihood. It's a frightening and sobering thought.
Today I received an e-mail from an ex-military, now a pilot, friend who has been an active Republican for over 35 yrs. He laid out one of the most compelling, reasoned explanations for why he is supporting Obama. There are lots of others like him. Now is not the time to hold Obama's feet to the fire on time tables and numbers. It's going to take alot to truly change the direction of our nation, but first we have to get him elected.

quote: "Barack's entire track record over 20 years of public service has been to help the less-fortunate, while supporting strong businesses and a strong economy. Barack believes in economic strength, fiscal responsibility, and not starting wars abroad unless it affects US interests directly. All ideas I held in great esteem in my 35-years as an active Republican."
Another quote: "Barack Obama has the personal courage to walk into Detroit, and tell auto makers they need to change the way they do business, and not to expect big government breaks to solve their problems. He's gone to Wall Street and told those mutual fund managers they need more corporate responsibility. On Father's Day, he warned the black community that men need to step up to the plate, and become husbands and role models. Here in Chicago, he was able to get the police department and their union to jointly agree to allow interrogations to be videotaped, reducing police brutality, and protecting good cops."

He went on to include everything from indebtedness to China to depressed wages to rising poverty among military families. People are hurting "out here" and they want true change.

ABC is known to hardily dislike Obama and has done alot of fake stories on him to make him sound terrible.
If Obama is elected the network will spend the next 4 years pouting. They are competing with Faux news as to which one can churn out the most anti Obama stories and criticisms of the man.

I think the CIA got to Koppel and used the mind control techniques they used to use. You know the ones discovered in the 70's by the New York Times, and put in front of the world to see during the senate hearings. Actually, I think ABC is trying to become a branch of FOX. Ever since their debate fiasco ABC has been like the McCain surrogates in full form. I can't stand George and now Ted has become a joke as well. This is a sad time in our history.

"Have I been giving Ted Koppel too much credit all my life?" YES. The corruption of the media has been going on ever since Reagan got in the White House, it could have been easily spotted by 1984; but evfen supposedly 'liberal' commentators kept giving the mainstream media a pass on the basis of a warped faith in "journalistic ethics" that weren't introduced until Edward Murrow slammed McCarthy. You all let the propaganda machine get constructed, what do you propose to do about it now.
Hint: Koppel has always been a mentally defective bucket'o'right-wing-slime who obscured this through arched eyebrows and a low-pitched voice - Darth Vader without the respirator. Welcome to reality.

Ted Koppel has always been one rung above the media harlots. They paid him off to take him off. He is not a friend of this administration and has paid for it. His insight always proves out. Just wait and see.

George S always brings guests that will also tells false lies about Obama. I think George and ABC have problems with Obama and need to remmeber that they are suppose to be a news organization not the RNC talking point.. We already have Faux News(FOX) doing that.....

I stopped watching ABC after that farce debate. It was apparent then that ABC has no interest in real news and in truth or honesty. Since then, I refuse to watch the network.
I don't believe anything their 'journalsists' like Tapper, et. al. write or report as it is always with an Anti obama bent.

This explains why people have so many misunderstandings about Obama. When the media takes it upon itself to distort information-then feed it to the masses, we end up with all this bull.

The only thing to do is call the media on this. Make a mockery of those who lie for a living, and make issues clear for all to see.

I happened to turn to ABC today, I usually try to avoid watching, it but Meet the Press was not own this Sunday. Most Sundays after watching " This week" for a few minutes I always end up having to turn the channel, because George Stephanopulos show is bias against Obama, which I think is quite obvious.

When is ABC "news" going to have all their correspondents wear their RNC Lapel Pins?

Actually, pass them out to all the networks!!

Like the saying goes... If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck - - it's a duck!!

Has HuffPo apologized yet over its ridiculously misleading headline the day of this hullabaloo over the word "refine"? If not, they should.

The panel as a whole was so dissappointing. I was screaming for someone sane, like Ms. Maddow, to tell Mark that Obama never said that all the troops would be out of Iraq on 1/21/09! And the suggestion that we are staying in Iraq indefinately is not a good or tough position, the very idea is just tragic!

It is like being in the twilight zone. I keep waiting for Journalists & political pundits, to stop being so darn lazy and do some research before the spew the candidates talking points as if they were actually facts~! What has happened to journalism, since the internet and google makes research just a click away, shouldn't it be easier for them to actually verify their material? Why is they quality getting worse, not better?

Pay no attention to most, if not all, TV journalists/political analysts as all are campaigning for Tim Russert's Meet the Press and will say anything to get the job.
