CBN:

Oh my. The fight against Barack Obama on abortion has officially begun. The Christian Defense Coalition, who are known to shock folks from time to time, have come up with a new campaign called: "Barack Obama: The Abortion President". They are going to make clear that Obama wants taxpayers to foot the bill on abortions. They are also going to lay bare his record on abortion. They'll conduct a news conference Tuesday in front of the Hart Senate Office Building where Obama's Senate office is located.

...

Some of these pro-life groups look at the polling and find that many Americans either think Obama is either pro-life or they're not sure. This campaign is an attempt to set the record straight.

Abortion is nothing more than a ploy by the rightwing fundamentalist and their religious rightwing band of thugs.

They claim that God is against abortion. Yet if you ask them where in the Bible does it say that abortion is bad or even distasteful to God. They will mention the ten commandments which really means "thou shall not murder".

God did not prohibit killings. He told the Israelites before to go and kill this group and that group.

But other than that they really don't have a claim on abortion.

The religious right have always championed anti-abortion and anti-gay issues. They never pointed out the other parts of the Bible such as helping one another, fighting poverty, helping the poor, etc. These religious right thugs aren't christians but wolves who parade themselves as christians.

I'm christian myself. I believe in God but I don't believe abortion should be used as a campaign gimmick and that gay people should be left alone because God loves them just as much as anyone else.

Whatever. Right wing fundie Christianity is on the way down. That historical pendulum has begun it's swing back, and they are on the declining edge of the spectrum. More and more they are being seen for the "Faith-Fascists" that they are. Throw those stones, idiots.

I might have some respect for this group of religious fanatics if they were consistent and called Bush a warmonger but they never seem to criticize the bombing of innocent civilians, why is that?

This doesn't help McCain at all.

McCain wants to load the Supreme Court with justices that will overturn ROE V. WADE. Obama does not. And the more women know about this, the more McCain lose female support.

In fact, even moderate, suburban Republican women will support Obama over McCain on the issue of abortion rights.

These religious right wingers are crazy. NO where in the bible did is say that abortion is illegal. It does not belong in the religious circle whatsoever. Yet they make a big fuss about it during elections.

Secondly, the conservatives have the majority in the supreme courts. If they really wanna overturn Roe vs. Wade then they could do it now.

Abortion is just another right wing gimmick playing on the religious sector into thinking that its against God's will. They are wrong. It's funny that they are against abortion and talk about family values. Yet evangelicals are more apt to beat up their wives and have a higher rate of divorces.

No one wants to do an abortion and Im also against it. But I also believe in the women's rights and their rights to choose. I believe that O-bama feels the same way too.

I have spent the last couple of days reading comments from hysterical and disgruntled ex Hillary supporters about how Obama wants to take away their right to choose. Now we have the equally hysterical pro-lifers calling him the abortion president. Of course neither accusation is accurate.

My question is very simplistic. If the rightwing's mantra is keep govern't out of our business, then why should govern't tell women whether or not they can have an abortion?

He IS the abortion president and he plans to abort the stillborn ambitions of the right-wing radicals who have had their hands on the rudder for the last decade.

MightyT: it is the stereo types I oppose so much because in the end game there was more that we agree on than what we disagree on.

Most of these posting required me to overcome stereo typical points of view.

Well, no offense Desert, but when you adopt some of the talking points it confuses the issue. A lot of the religious right's arguments are pathetically stereotypical.

I think if you accept that abortion should be available, safe and rare (which i think you've come around to, if you didn't already hold that position) is a good one.

There's common ground to be found for sure. But I'll never abandon the position that a woman's right to choose is not to be denied. Or that morality should be legislated.

And who believes the earth is only 5,000 years old

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:29 PM on 07/07/2008

Not sure, we can ask God when we get there though. What's more? I am not sure that really matters though either.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:31 PM on 07/07/2008

Oh, it matters to evangelicals, because they don't ever want to believe that god did not "create" the earth and the universe, because then evolution might be more true to fact.

I can only presume that DesertLight has logged off to go do good works for a gang-ridden community because he's not answered either of the questions I posed to him. He was unable to quote the Biblical reference where Christ said abortion is murder. Nor was he able (or willing?) to answer my question about whether abortions for married women whose method of birth control has failed. Like most folks who wear their "Christianity" as some sort of badge, he folds when asked questions.

I did answer that, Scroll down. School is out in my community and we are repainting the building unless of course you don't believe me.

You were unable to quote the chapter and verse. Nor did you respond to my question about a married woman whose method of birth control has failed. I have much respect for people who take on the tough issues of our society...I, too, have volunteered my time, energy, and talents to anti-poverty and anti-violence causes. But I cannot see how a legal matter can be argued from a religious viewpoint, there's a separation of church and state in this country for a reason.

I did in fact miss the second of your questions and I never even thought of that scenario, but it would be hard to believe someone that sincere would opt out for the escape rout before searching other methods.

I did say that more than biblical reasons for not agreeing with abortion, (which all I got from HP was anomalies and hypotheticals), I "personally (scientifically) see that the egg, the $perm and the conception are all living organisms which I have no rights to terminate barring issues with endangerment to mother or baby or both.

Then you basically agree with pro-choice groups. Yes? No? Because from what i understand, unless i'm totally out to lunch, that's what most pro-choicers believe. That abortion should be safe, available and rare.

I do know how people like to exploit others here for either not answering of having to leave. I try to answer everyone.

These faux Christians who always show Jesus as a most unforgiving, most discriminating, most intolerant tirant, have been festering cozily up Bush's rectum for 8 years. Of course, when they emerge they can only sling poop.

If I have shown that about Chr-ist I am amiss. I only know of His grace and mercy. My very life is owed to his love.

DesertLigtht commented below:

Imposing morality is not my thing. Speaking up for the life of the innocent is. I am pro-choice. Each child should have the right to choose his/her own future not anyone else.

That was my point all along.

But what's lost in this argument is that even if DesertLight isn't imposing morality, the Christian Defense Coalition would be attempting to do just that, wouldn't they? And isn't that the crux of the argument - that imposition of morality should not be allowed to occur through the apparatus of the government?

I do not wish to impose or force my beliefs on anyone. they must and always will be a matter of personal faith and choice.

I simply don't now or ever will agree with ab0rti0n as a matter of convenience. There are methods in place from abstinence to prevention that allow for the avoidance of the slaughter of innocent lives.

We can do better.
