McCain Hates The Bloggers, Calls Cable TV 'The Cables' (VIDEO)

In a December 2007 town hall meeting John McCain discussed his views on various media. During this discussion, he expressed a disdain for 'the bloggers.' It is uncertain who McCain is targeting with this statement, as there are nearly three million blogs on the internet.

He also calls cable television 'the cables,' evoking memories of McCain admitting that he cannot use a computer.

I'm having a hard time getting too mad about this, but it's still something worth talking about on a greater level.

I honestly don't think McCain meant to express actual "ill will" toward bloggers in this particular quote. It should be pretty obvious that McCain hates the bloggers; bloggers are an info source that McCain (and Bush before him) can't control in the same way that the "top-down" media (newspapers, "the cables", etc) are... but they still try, of course. You're not going to see credible bloggers brown-nosing their way to the "Suck-up Express" (to quote tonight's 'Countdown'). It shouldn't be any surprise that McCain hates the bloggers, so I'm not sure what all the uproar is over.

Did anyone really think that McCain had any feeling of goodwill toward bloggers before today? It should be clear to any observer by now, which is why it's so easy for him to joke about it. The people he talks to are just as pissed at the bloggers too.

I'm just happy we have a new "internets" to use in normal conversation. :)
