MSNBC's Chris Matthews hammered Vets For Freedom representative Pete Hegseth over Iraq PM Nouri al-Maliki's call for a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq. Echoing comments that In 2004 McCain said that he would leave Iraq if the Iraqis asked the Americans to leave. Watch Hegseth hemm and haw over the issue today:

too bad reporters/the media/etc... weren't this tenacious when bush/cheney/rice/etc were spreading the complete bullshit (aka knowingly committing outright criminal lies - you know they knew because they worked SO HARD to cover their tracks aka create plausible deniability) about the need to invade iraq.

too bad indeed.

OMG...Chris, don't you understand anything?? WE ARE SOOOOOOO CLOSE TO GETTING ALL THAT BIG FAT JUICY OIL! We can go back to our American way of living, running to the mall to get the latest Jamie Spears toilet brush and shoveling down a 3500 calorie happy meal. Now that's democracy in action! The Surge is working!

Darn, Matthews...don't make you like you...

Seriously, bravo - That dweeb was trying to get his robotic talking points out and Matthews was having none of that.

I watched that interview last night and Matthews was unfair to Pete Hegseth. Hegseth made some valid points and in a few instances Matthews was just slamming words in his mouth. That being said, this war was never a good idea, the sooner it ends the better -- we simply cannot afford to stay.

The Vet's for Freedom Group is a Republican created group to counter any Vet's group on the other side. Something like the swift boaters who savaged Kerry when he ran. The Repos have no real organic groups that grow up from the bottom . They are usually created and funded from the top and find their idiots below to carry their messages.

Chris did a great job digging for truth. Tim Russert is proudly smilinging down from heaven, hoping Chris will maintain consistency in his manner of seeking truth for the benefit of our nation and the world!

Matthews has been much better on the war than Tim Russert ever was, with all due respect to Russert. Matthews has worked hard to expose the politicians' outright lies on Iraq and has nearly single-handedly defied the de facto ban on Iraq coverage the MSM has declared. He has exposed the violence that continues in Iraq and has pushed hard against the MSM's efforts to make it appear as if the Iraq occupation is over. He continues to expose politicians on Iraq and is much better on pushing to end this travesty that is being conducted against the interests of the United States than nearly any other pundit. He's been more strident and regular against the occupation than Maddow.

He also has not simply parroted the latest lie, that lie being if the US immediately and safely pulls out of Iraq that a catastrophe of bibilical proportions will occur. He has exposed it for the lie it is -- an excuse for Democrats to continue to support the war while talking against it.

Matthews has many weirdos, but on the Iraq occupation, he's really been excellent.

Unbelievable!!!! This clip should be aired at as many public events as possible. This is the clearest and simplest display of this and a McCain administration's "our way or the highway" policy. Now that we have lost our standard-bearer, Tim Russert, I have been disappointed with Chris. He hasn't been this on point, in my opinion, since that shock jock was on ranting about appeasers. We went full-fledge in Vietnam at the end of my sophomore year in high school. Over the summer the overwhelming majority of kids from wealthy white families had gone hippie. I was conscientious of events in our country and in Vietnam. They never asked us to leave. This spokesperson for Vets for Freedom is allowing himself to be misled and used. I just viewed Sen, McCain's campaign ad where he is, once again, defining the Presidency as primarily a military appoinment. Even the most politically illiterate voter can see through the spin. To describe the Iraqi's position as a political statement as part and partial of diplomatic negotiations is an affront to the men, women, and families who have sacrificed for the what has deteriorated to an occupation. The whole world is watxhing! Shame on you!

Don't count too much on what the politically illiterate can see. If they could be counted on to have used their intelligence rather than an ideological stance, this president would never have been elected (?) twice.

The ONLY reason this administration wants to keep troops in Iraq is to guard the American oil interests that were just granted no-bid contracts to work Iraqi oil fields and are beginning their theft of Iraq's oil as we speak.

But Bush/McCain are over a barrel now. I heard a teaser story on NPR a few weeks ago about the resolution that the Iraqi government had authored asking the US to withdraw, and I was wondering when this bomb would finally drop. The only argument McCain can make (other than telling the truth about swiping the oil) is that "The Iraqis don't know what they're talking about, they don't know what's good for them." Or, I suppose he could meet their demand for a timetable by developing one that lasts 100 years.

Either way, he is hosed. If we refuse to withdraw when they've asked us to, we'll end up fighting the very Iraqi army we just trained.

McCain's praying for war between Israel and Iran now; that's his last and only chance.

The 'Vets for Freedom' guy talks out of his arse, cannot answer a question without spinning and I'm highly suspicious that he is high on jeebus.

Why didn’t Pete start screaming APPEASEMENT? He basically is spinning the same crap as Kevin James! Why oh why does it appear that mostly dumb dumbs always get into power?

I laughed so hard as this guy tried to twist and turn the situation around. Chris was actually playing some hardball w/ him. Bottom line... Iraq wants us out... the American people want out. The Bush/McCain team actually played themselves w/ the whole surge is working spiel. If it worked... there' s no reason for us to stay. If we need to stay... the surge didn't work. They can't have it both ways.
