Barack Obama's wife and daughters say they're shocked that he's become a fashion icon in an interview with Access Hollywood:

Obama has inspired a Versace runway collection in Milan; the designer said the clothing was for "a relaxed man who doesn't need to flex muscles to show he has power."

Gee, yesterday when I said it was politics 101 to leave your kids out of it, a bunch of you jumped all over me.............accused me of sour grapes and one of you even told me to get into a "coma"............I find it rather interesting that Obama, himself, has now said it was a bad idea.
Even the Clintons , who have been accused of exploiting anything and everything possible, kept their daughter out of politics until she became an adult.
I admire Obama for admitting today, what I said yesterday, bad idea to involve your children. You're running for president, not father of the year.

Oh please. Every candidate with children has at least allowed some photos and some minimal contact with the press. Even Carter allowed Amy to speak up once in a while. And there was plenty of publicity for the Edwards children when he was running for VP and (this is the important part) NOBODY COMPLAINED THEN. And Chelsea Clinton was how old when she accompanied her mother to Bosnia and was (maybe) fired on by snipers? Hillary said that "everybody knew that it was dangerous," but she took her daughter anyhow.

The Obama family made a decision to let the children participate in an interview. One time. That doesn't mean that they are going to put makeup on the children and do the Lindsay Lohan bit.

I suspect that what bothers conservatives the most is the obvious charm of these children and the loving way they treated their parents. Cant' have THAT or it will be even harder for them to paint Obama as some kind of "not like us" outsider or marginal fringer. So they summoned their surrogates to come to places like Huffpost and spew. So what's new?

I'm glad Barack thinks that the kids should do no more interviews, and his reasons are sound. But I'm glad this one snuck through because those kids say so much about who he is and what he and Michelle share together.

Thanks Barack and Michelle. I'm so tickled by Malia and I feel immediately protective of Sasha - so she can grow up with care. Maybe it's the only glimpse, but it is a secret game changer.

What a dynamite family !

ATTENTION: We can not log onto OBAMA's Community Blog Site. The following message occurs: A SITE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ERROR: Couldn't load blue:fetchpage URL
Has anyone else had this problem? We had problems with the Web site twice during the primaries, and it was reported on MSM.

I am SO looking forward to having this family in the White House!

I thought the interview was really nice. Reminds me of my own family growing up and I'm sure millions of others. However I don't think it was a mistake. It was a one time thing and I don't think anyone expect the kids to take over the interview. However that tends to happen in situations like this when you and family just go out to see other people. Give the opening and kids will start talking. However it was innocent and I think this is why Access Hollywood was allowed to be outlet for it. They don't have any type of agenda at play. They are clearly aren't trying to spin it into something it isn't. They are giving the Obama family great press by making this into a four night event.

Will the other media be upset they didn't get this kind of access? You bet. However they only have themselves to blame. They can not be trusted. They are trying to downplay it now I think to a degree because they know what it must look like. This would have been ratings gold for them for a few days I think if either major MSM outlet had gotten it. Perhaps this is a bit of a wake up call they need in order to start reporting things fairly. Not overly positive coverage for Obama but to make sure you go after McCain the same way you go after Obama (which they don't).

I am the father of two girls of similar age and I thought the interview was a hoot and something I can seriously relate to. I do understand his apprehension about doing it again because there are so many sinister agendas at work at that level of power. The part about having conversations with them from the road (at certain ages) is soooo true and the reasons they gave for their parents getting mad at them match my kids exactly. I really liked it.

"Obama flip-flops on kids' interviewing."

No, really. Saw it today.

I am from Montana...and I know that they were up there in Gods Country, feeling very free, breathing clean air and they thought...wow life's good. You get that way in Montana.

Now its back to reality and this was a mistake.

Although there will be many that get their only news from Access Hollywood and the others and see a wonderful, normal family. It will not have been worth anything good in the end.

Now, gets those kids back to their life and win this thing.

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!!

They are a good looking family, that's something they're just going to have to deal with. I just hope Obama inspires people to hang onto and keep wearing their old clothes because "corporate casual" is as big and undeductable an expense for working people as gas. I'm a woman with 4 pairs of shoes in her closet.. unheard of right? But have you seen the price of shoes lately??

And yeah, the press should leave those darling girls alone and let them have a childhood.

they'll try to treat these kids like paris hilton if they get a chance. Barack and Michelle are correct to insulate them, especially from the 'gotcha' press that we have today, most especially Fux.

I thought it was a great, warm, very charming video. But I understand the Obamas' wish to insulate the children from media attention, because we all know there's a down side it. So I think he's quite right to discourage that kind of attention. His children and his wife are not media playthings.

We never heard Chelse Clinton speak until she gradurated from College, Sen. Obama and Michelle should have applied the same rules, regrarding their children, MSM is mean and dirty , I pray this do not backfire for the childrens sake.

The Obama's, like any famous family, need to be very careful about how they present their girls and the impact those girls will have on other young girls and boys all over the world. My six year old daughter loved watching them and giggled when they made fun of their "Daddy" like she does with hers...

It was nice to see and as an American citizen, I enjoy watching all First families interact. It shows their humanity and everyone can relate regardless of party. But as a mother myself, until they get in the White House, keep them away from all media scrutiny...

Well-said and, as an Obama supporter, I felt even better about the guy after the interview, but they never should have done it. The genie is out of the bottle and he can no longer credibly ask the media to leave his family alone.

In my opinion, this, along with the decision to slowly back the Senator off of some of the Progressive stands that got him where he is, have me wondering who is calling these shots. It's too early to get worried, but these are the kind of "unforced errors" that Sen. Obama generally avoided throughout his nearly flawless Primary run.

I think the interview was fine....the Obama's are a charming family. The media will be pushing for interviews whether or not they granted this one.
