NEW YORK — Weeks after giving birth to daughter Maddie Briann, Jamie Lynn Spears is showing off the newborn, sharing memories of a "perfect" delivery and longing to be a Southern soccer mom.

Spears and fiance Casey Aldridge welcomed Maddie at a hospital in McComb, Miss., on June 19. The younger sister of Britney Spears poses with her on the cover of OK! magazine _ as expected, given the fact that Spears announced her pregnancy through an article in OK! and reportedly was to receive a large payday for exclusive pictures of the baby.

The photos were taken at the pair's Mississippi home. The magazine does not comment on the terms of its deals with celebrities.

In an interview with OK!, the 17-year-old Jamie Lynn said she had been nervous about giving birth "but it all fell into place. I was right on schedule. I had a perfect pregnancy and a perfect delivery. I was very blessed."

Jamie Lynn said watching Aldridge, a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss., hold Maddie for the first time "was the coolest thing. ... He was so happy, and that made me the happiest person alive."

Jamie Lynn's immediate family _ including big sister Britney _ were there for the birth, though Aldridge was the only one allowed in the delivery room.

"It was such a big day," she said. "And being able to have your sister there, your whole family there, meant a lot. Everybody flew in to celebrate."

Lynne Spears, already grandmother to Britney's young sons, told the magazine: "You never remember how little they are, and then you hold them. I purred like a kitten, and I remember saying, `Jamie Lynn, she's so beautiful.'"

Jamie Lynn thinks Maddie takes after daddy.

"As much as I'd like her to look like me _ I just carried her for nine months _ she looks like Casey! He reminds me of it every day," she said.

Jamie Lynn said Maddie sleeps in a bassinet by the couple's bed because she's "not ready to put her (in the nursery) all the way across the house."

She said Lynne Spears is a hands-on grandma.

"Mama has been here a bunch," she said. "She wants to see the baby all the time. She told me the doctors are always going to be real strict and tell you, `Don't do this and don't do that.' Just follow your instincts. You're the mother and you know what your baby needs. That's what I've done and it seems to have worked."

Jamie Lynn, who recently starred on the Nickelodeon sitcom "Zoey 101," said she plans to raise Maddie down South where "the focus is family."

"I would love being the soccer mom," she said. "They don't have soccer down here, but I would love being the softball mom driving the kids around."

I can only hope Okay magazine runs a one-year follow-up to this story, when grandmama is changing the diapers and reading Goodnight Moon, because mama is out partying with her older sister

Don't forget the upcoming break up of the marriage and the ensuing nervous breakdown, head shaving, refusal to wear underwear, etc. etc etc.

Shame on Okay magazine for glorifying this dysfunctional child (and I don't mean the baby)

SHAME'S definition in 2008 has a striking resemblance toClinton's "is" understanding. Logic with intellect in 2008 is challenging as illlusional thinking is the product of dysfunctional minds, intellect as fodder to those power and control mongers controlling a population for their means to an end. OK having a baby so young is acceptable to Spears II considering her enormous wealth, however most teens are caught in illusional reality that only 24/7 diaper changing, feeding and the where oh where are the dollars coming from supporting that first crying experience? Is magazine "OK" a contributing factor to encouragment to the other side of the tracks lifestyle? Better drugs and alcohol for the teen screaming out to society for help than the first cries of any baby born unto teenage girls who have no idea of what "Father forgive them for they know not what they do". No morals, no values, no self resepct and no higher presence forany woman , even teeagers, to give birth to a baby whose life is put on the line from birthing canal to adult. "OK" magazine should be named SHAME and see the positive publicity it receives.

glad to hear how wonderfully easy and perfect it was to be pregnant at 16.

Maybe I'm just old, but I remember when I was sixteen the only thing I wanted was the keys to my beat up Chevy Nova to go to the Piggly Wiggly and buy the latest issue of Tiger Beat to see if there were any new Duran Duran and Bon Jovi photos along with some Aqua Net so my hair could defy gravity with the help of my comb (which doubled as a hairspray dispenser in the handle).

Am I the only person who remembered that as a sixteen year old? What happened?

Most of the 16 year olds I knew had already hit the abortion clinic. You must have lived a sheltered life.

This is outrageous to me as a gay man.

Do you think her actions are a "threat" to the sanctity of marriage? Of parenthood? Did she 'marry' the father or will they marry and then divorce, further "weakening" that sanctimonious institution?

I completely misunderstood your first sentence. What a moron I am! I thought you were saying that this situation was as outrageous as a gay man.

I was thinking to myself.... now, what is so outrageous about a gay man????

You are saying that finding gays as a threat to marriage is as stupid as finding this little twit's situation is a threat to marriage.

I agree with you... it is outrageous and silly. How can anyone else's sexual actions affect my marriage????

The entire Spears family is a disgrace and I'm sick of the ad nauseam coverage of these people! If you buy this issue, you support this coverage and I, for one, would be elated if I never see any pics of them ever again! With most high schools now having childcare in their buildings, this kind of thing just enhances these young girls' desires to have children at early ages without any thought as to where the money will come from to raise them! I think I'll go throw up now...

i agree. its bad enough that there has to be girls making pacts to get pregnant, now we have jamie spears telling everyone how great pregnancy is without the social and moral implications. the other thing is this obsession with celebrity moms being better somehow because of their status in society and ability to buy 2000.00 strollers. there are so many ordinary women in this world who raise great children who become upright, contributing citizens. Why not put the reality on the cover of the teen mom who has to go to work and go to school to earn her welfare benefits?

Really? Do we need a magazine trumpeting how easy it is to be a 16 year old mother?

Ridiculous.

It's OK! magazine. Take a chill. 90% of the readership consists of unwed mothers between the ages of 13 and 19. The other 10% is made up of unwed grandmothers between the ages of 29 and 34.

You can't even get it on a newsstand. They just drop it from planes over the trailer parks that litter this great land of ours.

I was at work the other day, flipping through a copy of...whatever, and as I was sifting thru pages full of quasi-famous, dim-witted, well-to-do "stars", I just...stopped. I vowed never to pick up one again, no matter how bored I might be....most of these folks wouldn't be in a magazine if it wasn't for the repugnant "reality-tv" industry. They certainly aren't pillars of society, and most of them are just bland as hell, with no discernable talent.(Lauren Conrad? Your typical dental hygenist has more charisma.
The Kardasians? Ugh!) And now this little girl, just proudly showing her mistake to the world, making a gazillion dollars doing so. So,no, never again.

she's typical white trash. you can go to the local walmart or circle k and see lots and lots of girls her age, all locked in a spiral of poverty, bad choices and hopelessness. then they 'raise' kids to repeat the cycle. it's like they've never heard of birth control or abortion.

Unlike the "typical white trash" you so eloquently speak of, she is a multi-millionaire. If she shops Wal-Mart, it isn't because she has to. She is anything but "locked in a spiral of poverty".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:17 PM on 07/09/2008

millionaire from what, exactly? what has she contributed to the world, except another mouth to feed and another few tons of diapers in the landfill? and you didn't read my post, otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to defend jamie lou or whatever her name is. your comprehension skills are lacking. and you find nothing trashy about having babies before you're even 20? wow.

Multi-millionaire? I didn't realize OK! paid that much for the pics and article.

White trash has nothing to do with money - it's upbringing and attitude - ask her older sister.

White trash babies having babies - what a cryin' shame.
