NEW YORK — Weeks after giving birth to daughter Maddie Briann, Jamie Lynn Spears is showing off the newborn, sharing memories of a "perfect" delivery and longing to be a Southern soccer mom.

Spears and fiance Casey Aldridge welcomed Maddie at a hospital in McComb, Miss., on June 19. The younger sister of Britney Spears poses with her on the cover of OK! magazine _ as expected, given the fact that Spears announced her pregnancy through an article in OK! and reportedly was to receive a large payday for exclusive pictures of the baby.

The photos were taken at the pair's Mississippi home. The magazine does not comment on the terms of its deals with celebrities.

In an interview with OK!, the 17-year-old Jamie Lynn said she had been nervous about giving birth "but it all fell into place. I was right on schedule. I had a perfect pregnancy and a perfect delivery. I was very blessed."

Jamie Lynn said watching Aldridge, a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss., hold Maddie for the first time "was the coolest thing. ... He was so happy, and that made me the happiest person alive."

Jamie Lynn's immediate family _ including big sister Britney _ were there for the birth, though Aldridge was the only one allowed in the delivery room.

"It was such a big day," she said. "And being able to have your sister there, your whole family there, meant a lot. Everybody flew in to celebrate."

Lynne Spears, already grandmother to Britney's young sons, told the magazine: "You never remember how little they are, and then you hold them. I purred like a kitten, and I remember saying, `Jamie Lynn, she's so beautiful.'"

Jamie Lynn thinks Maddie takes after daddy.

"As much as I'd like her to look like me _ I just carried her for nine months _ she looks like Casey! He reminds me of it every day," she said.

Jamie Lynn said Maddie sleeps in a bassinet by the couple's bed because she's "not ready to put her (in the nursery) all the way across the house."

She said Lynne Spears is a hands-on grandma.

"Mama has been here a bunch," she said. "She wants to see the baby all the time. She told me the doctors are always going to be real strict and tell you, `Don't do this and don't do that.' Just follow your instincts. You're the mother and you know what your baby needs. That's what I've done and it seems to have worked."

Jamie Lynn, who recently starred on the Nickelodeon sitcom "Zoey 101," said she plans to raise Maddie down South where "the focus is family."

"I would love being the soccer mom," she said. "They don't have soccer down here, but I would love being the softball mom driving the kids around."

Thanks, honey, for making pregnancy seem fun and glamorous to all the girls out there who don't have the big bucks.

While I don't think Jamie Lynn is anything to be proud about, what's so wrong with a "Southern Soccer Mom"?
I'm from the South, but I've lived all over the country and in several foreign countries as well. One thing I learned from my travels is that people are basically the same everywhere. EXCEPT, the people in the South are friendlier and more family oriented.

When I lived on the East Coast, I had a child under 2 years old so I chose to put my legal career on hold and stay home with her. The entire time I lived there, I was constantly put in the position of justifying my stay at home mother status by every young professional, male and female alike, that I met. Every couple I met was living beyond their means in a home they couldn't afford and spending 4 or more hours a day commuting to and from work. All of their children were either being raised in day care or by nannies.

Say what you want about the South. You are showing your ignorance.

There you are again. I was going to say it for you, but you beat me to it. I'm about as progressive a southerner as you'll find, I think. I'm also a lawyer Yay! bleh! groan. hahaha. I have put my career on hold each time one of my kids was born. In fact, I left private practice for government practice because it made more sense for my family. I know what you're talking about with yankee know it alls. For progressives, they are some judgmental people. Read a few of the comment sections on any of subject on this site and they just leap out at you, attacking things they know nothing about or attacking lifestyles or cultures that are different from their own.

Now I'm not saying that 16 is the best age for motherhood in my opinion- but in many cultures its the norm. The fact that this young woman got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby, certainly doesn' t make her trash. In fact, those kind of statements say more about the poster than Ms. Spears.

Well actually I was referring to the Soccer Mom part, but since you showed how ignorant Southerners are, I'll agree that Southern Soccer Moms like you are ignoramouses.

Good luck sweetie I think you'll be just fine. Every night Nancy Grace showcases horror stories of neglectful and irresponsible parents. I think you'll do much better than what's expected of you.

Oh please people, get over it. I'm a 27-year-old woman that has no desire to get pregnant after watching celebrities have children outside of marriage, or even a monogamous relationship.

Unplanned pregnancies have happened since God gave us reproductive organs. Anyone who's stupid enough to blame Hollywood for teens getting pregnant is out of touch.

I would hope a 27-year-old woman would have more sense - I'm not so sure about the 15-year-old girls out there who look up to celebrities and want to be like them.

We can always depend on the media for sending the wrong message. As a parent of a teenager I am sick of seeing illegitamcy praised and celebrated. The Spears "family" has had enough face time with their behaviour that is better suited to a trailer park.

Lynn Spears said, "You're the mother and you know what your baby needs. That's what I've done and it seems to have worked."

Right on, Lynn. Your parenting skills have worked beautifully. Britney is a poster child for out-of-control mentally ill young women, and Jamie is a poster child for unplanned teen pregnancy. No wonder you are so proud!

Nice point. If there is one person I will not be looking towards for parenting advice, it's Lynn Spears.

"It was perfect." I'm sure. Nothing perfect about teens having children and trying to play grown-ups. My children aren't 17, but I'm pretty sure even if they had a baby at that age I wouldn't be going along with the marriage/house thing. Bad idea.

Kids; do NOT attempt this at home.

Make no mistake. You will be miserable. You will miss out on a LOT of fun and you will never get an adequate education for doing anything with your life. Plus, you will likely be a grandmother by 30, wondering why life is so unfair to you. Is that what you want?

Well, at least use birth control. And I hope your parents don't forget all the passions they had at your age and that they don't condemn you for all the hormones you have raging inside you.

Okay, teenagers, listen up! It's cool, fun and rewarding to have your first child at age 17 with your "boyfriend" and then play house with the boyfriend and the baby.
However, do not even think that you'll get a million or two for telling the world how sweet your life is. It ain't happening? Want to know why? You aren't "famous" and your mom isn't Lynne Spears, making a living off of your "oops" moments.

Yep. Thanks, celebrity tabloid media. Media is the mirror of a society, what is this saying about who we are. At least, the father wasn't her cousin (-- he wasn't was he?!)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:58 AM on 07/09/2008

The father isn't even the father.

""As much as I'd like her to look like me _ I just carried her for nine months _ she looks like Casey! He reminds me of it every day," she said."

Spin. To cover for the Hollywood exec who was boinking an underage teen. So they find this "pipe fitter" good ole' boy, make him the daddy, and trot him out in front of the media, and say inane things about him and the situation.

She was hanging with the rich and famous, hollyweird scene. What (and when) was she sleeping with an unemployed, no body from the boonies?

Gawd, celebrity culture, and those of us who eat it up, are just so evil and pathetic at the same time. Reinforcing the society of the spectacle of bread and circus, while we whither away as a civilization.

Ugh.
