Jewish Democrats are anxious that Sen. Joe Lieberman's support for Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) will hurt their own nominee's chances with voters of their faith.

Their increasing frustration came to a head Wednesday when liberal activists and bloggers dropped off a petition calling for Democratic leaders to remove Lieberman, an Independent from Connecticut who caucuses with the Democrats, as chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in the next Congress. The petition contained 43,000 signatures.

Lieberman in a nutshell.

Enters a primary in "good faith" and after losing, rejects the verdict of connecticut democratic voters, and runs against the nominee of the Democratic party, with the complicity of the Republican party.

Not the actions of a honorable person.

Lieberman Questioning Obama's Commitment To Israel: "Why Wouldn't I Do That?"
Why shoudn't Lieberman's commitment to the U.S. be questioned?

Hey LIEberman, if you love Israel so much, why not move there.

Joe Lieberman is a disgrace. Also, I'd warn writers to avoid the word "faith" when referring to Jews. It's not that we don't have the Christian concept of Faith. It's just that we're born as Jews, faithful or not. Once you've got the dna, the religion doesn't care if you have Faith -- as Christians call it -- or if you even believe in god. You're Jewish as much as you're part of a race. So, really, keep the faith, but save it for Christians. Members of Congress written about as of the Jewish "faith" are being described by a writer who has no idea how loaded that word is. It's totally a goyish thing. I've never thought of myself as a member of the Jewish faith. I'm just a Jew. I keep my faith or lack of it to myself.

Of course why shouldn't Lieberman question Obama'a commitment to Israel that's where his passion lies.

Blind committment to Israel is a deficit for a US leader.

It is not even good for Israel.

Blind committment to stupidity is a deficit for an American.

It is not even good as a joke, goose-stepper.

Let's remember Saudis made up almost all the 9/11 terrorists. But "thems" yer kinda folks, huh?

What ever faults Liebermann has, "blind commitment" isn't one of them. But wackos like you make commitment a good idea. Liebermann's problem is arrogant stupidity.

I agree, and for the record, so did Bush 41, who told the Israelis that he would support them, but not fight their wars for them. Fast-forward to Bush 43, who let the Iraelis tell him what to do. The invasion of Iraq was what Israel wanted, and the Israeli government initiated the same misinformation campaign that Bush and his cronies did leading up to the invasion.

"That Lieberman believes in the single cause that Israel should always have America's support at any cost to this country's moral and financial detriment and is clear.
This is the type of one-dimentional Jewish thinking that reflects on all Jews badly and only Jews can do something about - but sadly there is little criticism of this political snake".

The sad thing is , Lierbman's views should not refect badly on Jews because he doesn't speak for most of us or represent us. And believe me, there is plenty of criticism of Lieberam by the Jewish community but for some reason none of it gets heard.

Mine gets heard. I have not stopped repeating it to whomever will listen that Joe Liebeman does not reflect my views. I don't think Hagee is "the new Moses." I don't think John McCain and the neocons are "good for Israel." I don't consider encouraging settlers and extreme Likudniks is a good idea.

Joe Lieberman is the stalking horse for someone who wants to have all the Jews slaughtered -- Hagee -- and I cannot forgive him for that nor can I imagine resistiing spitting in his eye if I ever meet him.

Listen, if it wasn't Lieberman, it would be someone else. I understand every Jew's concern for Israel. I've recall outright violence in the fifties, the justification from the assaulters (two on one) "No one cares." (No, I'm not Jewish, I wasn't the one attacked.) And one can still hear hate, even from people you'd think should be better people.

Likuderman is no Democrat and certainly no pro-Labor Party Israeli.

He's out of reality's loop and I'm relieved we are beginning to hear from the Jews representing the majority. Let's hear much, much more. Doesn't the man see the U.S. is out of blood, bone, and bucks?

What are Connecticut Democrats going to do about him? And please, get this guy off sensitive committees. He's a mole.

Allowing Joe Lieberman to hold the Democrats hostage on Iraq so they could have the perks of the majority (which they sadly don't actually use for policy purposes or to hold the Bush/Cheney CONS accountable) wasn't worth it.

Joe Klein of Time Magazine wrote a letter to the ADL about Jewish neoconservatives hysterically pushing America into war. Here is an excerpt:

I am very tired of having reasonable people accused of being "soft on terrorism" or "unpatriotic" or favoring "surrender"--Joe Lieberman's favorite"by Jewish neoconservatives who seem to have a neurotic need to prove their toughness. They, and you, should know that most Jews disagree with their politics and many Jews are disgusted with their behavior. They, and you, should know that the tendency to "cry wolf" about antisemitism does real harm to the Jewish community"indeed, in this case, it is laughable.
Best Wishes,
Joe Klein

Reading these comments I keep thinking of LBJ who said of someone, (can't remember who now), "I'd rather have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in." Only problem is Holy Joe is inside the tent pissing in. Give him to the Repugs at least then there won't be any ambiguity on which side this guy is on... maybe he'll keep pissing inside the tent when he's in the GOP tent?

As a jew myself the only thing about Joe I don't find embarrasing is the fact that at least I never voted for him - cause I don't live in CT.

Joe Lieberman, and too many others, keep asking how strongly any candidate supports Israel.
I wonder sometimes how strongly their pet candidaters support America.
And why aren't we heaqring such about how much they support any other nation?
Is it perhaps that such questioners are not concerned with any other nation? Even ours?
Perhaps? Ha!

Leiberman has a right to his opinion, and the people of Connecticut (in their infinite wisdom or stupidity) saw fit to elect him Senator. I respect his single-mindedness in placing "what's good for the Jews" as the sole item on his priority list/

But I think he's dead wrong.

I am suspicious of any single-issue politician who places one policy above all others in a complex, society where a multiplicity of factors are central to our survival.

The logical answer would be for Connecticut to wake up and elect someone else, but he still has something like 4 years to go.

A better answer would be to elect an 11+ plurality in the Senate in Nov.

Lieberman would have to be totally insane to believe that he has any future in politics if Obama wins the election. Lieberman can call himself an "Independent Democrat" if he so wishes; but, the truth of the matter is that he is a turncoat opportunist.

I don't have a problem with the Jewish people when they support Israel, that is normal and expected. But when a member of Congress puts Israel above America that is where I draw the line.

Lieberman is all about Israel and he has lost his party because of it - Israel is an ally but is not more important than the health and welfare of the American people.

Plus, Lieberman should realize by now that the activities of the Bush Administration has done nothing but make matters worse for Israel and the Middle East in general - Iran is now testing missiles that could strike Israel, but Lieberman is still supporting McCain/Bush. Go figure.

How do you conclude that he puts Israel above America?
Please provide your evidence or reasoning - or is it merely your own opinion?
